Any plans to build a rail link to the mainland from this city?

Good but who are the people that are going to be living on the island. It is clear it is the rich people of the society. Still good for Nigeria as a whole.

God bless Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa. God bless Eko and Nigeria

Nigerians, we have our First MAN-MADE ISLAND. smiley

Eko Atlantic City is NOT an island. An island is a body of land completely surrounded by water. Eko Atlantic is made by extending the Victoria Island coastline.

The Lagos light rail project and Eko Atlantic City are two separate projects. There is no connection of the rail system for both area.

@jason123

The foundations for the first tower is being constructed as we speak!!!

Eko Pearl, being built by Eko Pearl Nig. Ltd in association with *ESLA Int, is a 24 story residential tower located on the harbor front in Lagos' brand new city, "Eko Atlantic."

Residents of this brand new luxury tower will be able to enjoy uninterrupted views of the water as they take in the endless breeze from the ocean.

In addition to living in the newest prime area of Lagos, residents will enjoy first class infrastructure facilities, including: uninterrupted power, water, and security services. Amenities in Eko Pearl, in addition to what Eko Atlantic city will offer, will also include a swimming pool and tennis courts.

The tower sits in a self contained area with safe and secure parking. It is just under 500 meters away from the financial center of Lagos.

The location is close enough to not have to endure long drives to work, but far enough to enjoy the splendor of quiet living.

FACILITIES

Under ground or Ground floor parking for Apartments.
Storage space for each apartment.

LANDSCAPING

SPA, Swimming pool,Plantation, lighting, paving, fence, ,

@Paddylo.

In one of the renders I noticed a Suspension bridge. What part of Lagos is on the other side of the bridge?
Re: Eko Atlantic City. . Construction Update July 2010 by nateevs(m): 2:32pm On Jul 11, 2011
Actually a simple google-maps search reveals the answers. The other side of the link is Tarkwa Bay all the way back to the Badagry Creek. I hoping the bridge will be at least an 8-lanes carriage way. Though needless now, it will turn out cheaper as the real-estate on the Badagry end of town is going to explode. That side of town is going to be insanely populated in the wink of an eye.

Time to get a few plots, at least if I cannot afford any on the Eko Atlantic.

Actually no, The acquisition of the new ship will cut dredging/ land reclamation time significantly due to the fact that the ship can pump more sand than other vessels. It wont add more land to the original plans.

Anyone have new pictures? Have they started building roads and doing site development work?

I guess the post refers to the cost involved in this project versus the problem it strives to solve. As small as Lagos is, it may still have room to grow. With its ever-growing population, a fraction of the cost of this project could open up areas in Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho etc, and that could solve our space crisis to a large extent. However, u did say it was privately funded so the financiers have a right to spend their money wherever they like. The single largest benefit to reclaiming the sea is that indigenous people will not lay claims to this land in the future.
quote author=paddy_lo]

I dont know why but i like taking on ignorant folks like u on Nairaland. . .

For your info. . this is not a Nigerian Govt project. . .

Its not even a lagos state project, although the state does support it

Its a privately funded project. . get it. . .

Plus the state is going to be up to 25million in 2025

New districts have to open up

Its funny a lot of u cry about decentralizing governance in Nigeria
now that it is being done u also complain. . .

If other state Governors cannot provide a conducive environment to attract private capital
pls blame it on them

stop coming here to spew your ignorance. . .
and its not by force to buy the land. . u can stay wherever the hell u are and spend your money there

If lagos didnt plan for future population growth u will complain
now that they are doing it. . u are still complaining

or dont u know the UN has designated lagos as a mega-city?

and the city is running out of space?. . .

Akainzo:

That is the simplistic way of looking at it. Once this project is completed and people are living and paying taxes to Lagos State government, gbam, the problem is now that of the government.
Supposing there is a massive thunderstorm that threatens the island, who is going to respond? Who has to deploy resources to save lives and properties? Whose monies would be used for that venture?
I am sure none of the above questions can be answered with Chagouri and his group can it?

What has been achieved through the back door is to ensure that government erosion control would be to protect private beaches rather than the public ones, and using public funds at that!

You are quite right. Which is why many a posters have been saying that the postulation that the government of Lagos has nothing to do with this is preposterous. One government gave the go ahead, government gave some guarantees to the bank and when completed the Lagos state government has to provide electricity, security and other government presence. All this cost money and this funds could have been better utilized for the good of all if Orile had been bought over and demolished for this mega estate.

It's now over 10 years and nothing has been wrong
