Total Redemption From Christ Our Saviour

Mark 2:1-5, 7-12 KJV
And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. [2] And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them , no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. [3] And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. [4] And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. [5] When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. [7] Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? [8] And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? [9] Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? [10] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) [11] I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. [12] And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

1. Faith in the Sufficiency of Christ's Ability

Mark 2:1 KJV
And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

Mark 1:21 KJV
And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

Mark 2:2 KJV
And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them , no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

Mark 6:34 KJV
And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

Romans 10:17 KJV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 11:6 KJV
But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Mark 2:3-5 KJV
And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. [4] And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. [5] When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

i) The Action of Faith

James 2:17, 20 KJV
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. [20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

There must be the action of faith.

James 2:26 KJV
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Hebrews 11:7 KJV
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Faith always has action.

Hebrews 11:8 KJV
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Hebrews 11:24-27 KJV
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; [25] Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; [26] Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. [27] By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

ii) The Access of Faith

Romans 5:1-2 KJV
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: [2] By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Acts 15:9 KJV
And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

2 Thessalonians 1:11 KJV
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

It is faith that grants us access to those blessings: Salvation, sanctification, Holy Ghost baptism.

iii) The Accounting of Faith

Hebrews 11:17 KJV
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son ,

Hebrews 11:19 KJV
Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

Our God is able. Whatever blessing you need in your life.

Hebrews 7:25 KJV
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, [21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Jude 1:24-25 KJV
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, [25] To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

2. Forgiveness of all sins through Christ's Atonement

Mark 2:5-7 KJV
When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. [6] But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, [7] Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

He is God, He is more than a preacher.

Mark 2:8 KJV
And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

Mark 2:9-10 KJV
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? [10] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

How does that forgiveness come?

i) Sorrow for sin.

2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

That's the person that says genuinely "I have sinned"

It is that sorrow for sin that makes your repentance genuine.

Luke 7:40-47 KJV
And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. [41] There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. [42] And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? [43] Simon answered and said, I suppose that he , to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. [44] And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. [45] Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. [46] My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. [47] Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

She had sorrow for sin and as a result she asked for forgiveness.

Luke 7:48 KJV
And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

Proverbs 28:13 KJV
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

ii) Separation from sin

John 5:14 KJV
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

John 8:11 KJV
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

1 Corinthians 15:34 KJV
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

2 Corinthians 7:11 KJV
For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Evidence of real salvation. They were angry at the sin.

iii) Shielding from sinning.

O Lord shield, protect me from going back into sin.

Psalm 19:13 KJV
Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins ; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

I want to remain innocent, I want to count on your grace and remain righteous.

Psalm 119:133 KJV
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Romans 6:12-14 KJV
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. [13] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. [14] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

1 Peter 1:5 KJV
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

3. Freedom From All Sickness By Christ's Authority

Mark 2:10-12 KJV
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) [11] I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. [12] And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

i) The Cure for sickness

Luke 4:32, 36 KJV
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. [36] And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

Acts 10:38 KJV
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

ii) The Command of our Saviour

Mark 2:3, 11-12 KJV
And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. [11] I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. [12] And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

He was no more a paralytic and then he will no more remain a parasite.

Luke 9:23 KJV
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Ephesians 6:13 KJV
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

I will stand. I have the name of Jesus. Make use of your own faith, take up your own bed. I am not a beggar. I will have all grace sufficient for me.

Ephesians 6:16-17 KJV
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

2 Thessalonians 3:8-9 KJV
Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: [9] Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

I will work. I will not be a parasite.

Mark 2:12 KJV
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Who are the "all"?

Mark 2:6 KJV
But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

iii) The Courage in the presence of the Scribes

Matthew 5:16 KJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The Immediate Response Of A Willing Heart

Mark 2:13-17 KJV
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. [14] And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him. [15] And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. [16] And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? [17] When Jesus heard it , he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Those who are sick need the physician. He came to call real sinners to heaven.

1. The Commitment and Concentration of our Saviour.

Mark 2:13 KJV
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

He taught them. What, why, how did He teach them?

i) What He taught them.

Matthew 5:2-3 KJV
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, [3] Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

He taught them how partake of the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:4 KJV
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

There will be sorrow for sin. They will be comforted because God will forgive them.

Matthew 5:5 KJV
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

I am saved by grace alone and because of that I will be meek.

Matthew 5:6-7 KJV
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. [7] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

When you come into the kingdom.

Matthew 5:8 KJV
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

He taught them the way, the vision in the kingdom.

Matthew 5:20 KJV
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

He taught them the standard of the kingdom.

Matthew 6:24 KJV
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

He was telling them that a divided heart will not remain in the kingdom. He was calling them to a decision. He told them the literal impossibility of serving God and mammon.

Matthew 6:33 KJV
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 7:13 KJV
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Matthew 7:14 KJV
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

He was teaching them the way into the kingdom.

John 8:28 KJV
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he , and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

There is no alternative in getting into the kingdom of God.

John 8:29 KJV
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 8:30-32 KJV
As he spake these words, many believed on him. [31] Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; [32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

He taught conversion, continuity and holding on to the end.

He taught them the grace into the kingdom.

ii) Why He taught them. What was His goal?

Mark 4:1-2, 10 KJV
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. [2] And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, [10] And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

That they will know the mystery, the secret of the kingdom of God.

Mark 4:11-12 KJV
And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: [12] That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

He taught so that they will be forgiven and converted.

Luke 24:27, 44-45 KJV
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. [44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. [45] Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

He taught them so that they could understand. That the OT was fulfilled in Him.

John 8:24, 28, 32 KJV
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he , ye shall die in your sins. [28] Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he , and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. [32] And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

He wanted them to know the truth that will set them free.

John 8:36 KJV
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

it is by putting their faith and trust in Him that they will have eternal life.

iii) How He taught them. What you teach is not enough.

Matthew 7:28-29 KJV
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: [29] For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

He taught like the author, as one having authority.

Mark 4:2, 33 KJV
And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, [33] And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it .

Dull teaching will produce dull hearers. He taught the people stirring up their hearts.

Luke 23:5 KJV
And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

John 7:28, 37 KJV
Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. [37] In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

He presented the word and made it come alive to them.

John 7:38-40 KJV
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. [39] (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given ; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) [40] Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

He taught convincingly.

John 7:46 KJV
The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

2. The Conversion and Consecration of a Soul.

Mark 2:14 KJV
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

That was the conversion of Matthew, Levi.

Mark 2:15 KJV
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

They were convinced.

i) The conversion of a sinner.

Mark 2:14 KJV
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

Two words, "Follow Me."

Mark 2:17 KJV
When Jesus heard it , he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

He came to call sinners to repentance.

Luke 5:27 KJV
And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

Luke 5:28 KJV
And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

When you rise up and follow the Lord you burn the bridge behind you, you abandon all and follow Jesus Christ as your Saviour. Leaving all sinful practise behind and take a definite decision not to look back.

Acts 3:19 KJV
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Acts 3:26 KJV
Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

Acts 17:30 KJV
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

John 8:11-12 KJV
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. [12] Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

James 5:19-20 KJV
Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; [20] Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Christ came to call sinners to repentance.

Revelation 2:4 KJV
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Revelation 2:5 KJV
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

He wants repentance from everyone. He doesn't want you to manage your Christian life.

Revelation 3:15-20 KJV
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. [16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. [17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: [18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy unclothedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. [19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. [20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Mark 2:15 KJV
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

Luke 5:29-32 KJV
And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them. [30] But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? [31] And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. [32] I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

John 4:28-30, 39 KJV
The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, [29] Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? [30] Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. [39] And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

John 10:16 KJV
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

You need to tell all members of your family and community.

Acts 10:24, 33, 44-47 KJV
And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends. [33] Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God. [44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. [45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. [46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, [47] Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

3. The Continuation of His Commission Despite the Scribes.

Mark 2:16-17 KJV
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? [17] When Jesus heard it , he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

We are to follow after the examples of Christ. The commission will not die at your door step.

i) The condition of the scribes and the pharisees.

Mark 2:16 KJV
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

What was the condition of the scribes and Pharisees?

Matthew 5:20 KJV
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

They were still traditional, religious sinners.

Matthew 23:13, 27-28, 33 KJV
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves , neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. [27] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. [28] Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. [33] Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

His work will go on in your life.

Luke 11:52 KJV
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

They took away the key of proper interpretation of the word of God that will enable them enter into the kingdom of God.

The Congregation of sinners and publicans.

Mark 2:15 KJV
And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

Matthew 21:31 KJV
Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

He said the sinners and publicans will go into the kingdom of heaven before the scribes and Pharisees.

Matthew 21:32 KJV
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it , repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

I will get into that kingdom in Jesus' name.

Luke 18:10-14 KJV
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. [11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. [13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

iii) The Commission of our Saviour

Mark 2:17 KJV
When Jesus heard it , he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Luke 19:10 KJV
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Luke 24:45-47 KJV
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, [46] And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: [47] And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

2 Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Proper Understanding Of Fasting In The New Testament

Mark 2:18 KJV
And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

Mark 2:19-20 KJV
And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. [20] But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

Mark 2:21 KJV
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
Mark 2:22 KJV
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

1. The Powerlessness Of Fasting With The Old Character

Luke 5:33 KJV
And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

Isaiah 58:3 KJV
Wherefore have we fasted, say they , and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.

Fasting and Falsehood

Jeremiah 14:12-14 KJV
When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. [13] Then said I, Ah, Lord God ! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place. [14] Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Adamant at doing evil

Zechariah 7:5, 11-13 KJV
Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month , even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? [11] But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. [12] Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts. [13] Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts:

Strive

Isaiah 58:3-5 KJV
Wherefore have we fasted, say they , and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. [4] Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high. [5] Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him ? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the Lord ?

Transgression

2 Samuel 11:27 KJV
And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord .

2 Samuel 12:16-18 KJV
David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. [17] And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. [18] And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

Impentience

Jeremiah 36:6, 9, 21-24 KJV
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord in the ears of the people in the Lord's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. [9] And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. [21] So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. [22] Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. [23] And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. [24] Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Proverbs 28:9 KJV
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Negligence

Luke 18:11-12 KJV
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Matthew 23:23 KJV
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Godlessness

1 Kings 21:9-16 KJV
And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: [10] And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die. [11] And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. [12] They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. [13] And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. [14] Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead. [15] And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead. [16] And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

Psalm 36:1 KJV
The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

Psalm 7:11 KJV
God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

Proverbs 21:27 KJV
The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

Mark 2:18-19 KJV
And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? [19] And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

John 3:28-29 KJV
Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. [29] He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

John 1:12, 14, 16 KJV
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [16] And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

John 7:37-38 KJV

Ephesians 3:17-21 KJV
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, [18] May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; [19] And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. [20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, [21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Colossians 2:9-10 KJV
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. [10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

How do we get the fullness? It's all by faith.

[24] Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them , and ye shall have them .

3. The Potentials Under The Covenant

Mark 2:20 KJV
But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

Directives on how to fast

Matthew 6:17-18 KJV
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; [18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Your Father will answer.

Matthew 17:19-21 KJV
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? [20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. [21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Acts 13:2-4 KJV
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. [3] And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. [4] So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

If you want more power, authority and growth.

Acts 14:21-22 KJV
And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, [22] Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Acts 14:23 KJV
And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

1 Corinthians 7:5 KJV
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

Acts 9:9 KJV
And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

2 Corinthians 11:27 KJV
In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and unclothedness.

What was the result of fasting in the life of Paul?

Acts 13:8-12 KJV
But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. [9] Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, [10] And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? [11] And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. [12] Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

Paul disciplined his life and fasted from time to time.

Acts 14:7-10 KJV
And there they preached the gospel. [8] And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: [9] The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, [10] Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

The Lord will honour your dedication and consecration.

Acts 16:16-18 KJV
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: [17] The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. [18] And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

God will grant you more anointing.

Acts 16:25-26 KJV
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. [26] And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

You must have a mind to seek the Lord.

Acts 19:11-12 KJV
And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: [12] So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

It will happen again.

Romans 15:18-21 KJV
For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, [19] Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. [20] Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: [21] But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

Through Paul they heard and through you they will hear.

Mark 2:21-22 KJV
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. [22] And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

Old tradition is not compatible with the new teaching. Old practices of the New Testament, Covenant, Commandments.

Full surrender to Moses wiĺ not be compatible to the Saviour.

New followership, freshness, fellowship, freedom, new fasting with a new comprehension.

Isaiah 40:28-31 KJV
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord , the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. [29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. [30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: [31] But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Increase your boldness, faith, power and courage.

MONDAY BIBLE STUDY
THEME: PRAYER NEVER FAIL
MINISTER: PASTOR W.F. KUMUYI, FROM DEEPER LIFE HEADQUARTERS CHURCH, GBAGADA (13/05/19)

TOPIC: PROPER UNDERSTANDING OF FASTING IN THE NEW DISPENSATION

TEXT: MARK 2:18-22
18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

Tonight, we are considering a very important subject. Fasting has been practiced since Old Testament times. The disciples of John fasted regularly and frequently. Although John did not do any miracles, yet, he taught his disciples to pray and fast. There is no record that their fasting yielded any powerful result, but they kept to it as an Old Testament tradition. The Pharisees and their followers too fasted often as a religious tradition which did not also bear any fruit or yielded any relationship with God.

They did not see the disciples of Jesus fast, and they were concerned, though with an air of pride. So, they asked Jesus why all other disciples fasted except His. Christ’s disciples had salvation and witnessed supernatural signs even though they were not fasting yet. Jesus told the 70 sent out to evangelize to rejoice that their names were written in heaven. It was this question by the Pharisees that brought the great revelation for tonight’s study.

Jesus said when He was with them, performing miracles and meeting the disciples’ as well as other people’s needs, they cannot fast, but they will do that when He was no longer with them.

vs 21. Jesus also said, no one sews a piece of new cloth into an old piece, or put new wine in old bottles.

1. THE POWERLESSNESS OF FASTING WITH THE OLD CHARACTER. Mark 2:18; Luke 5:33
The Pharisees told Jesus that their disciples and those of John fasted often, though without results, why? Isaiah 58:3. The word ‘often’ tells us that the disciples of John fasted regularly, yet, there were no miracles, no results.

The people’s prayers were not answered, and there were no supernatural signs and wonders.
Why?

F A S T I N G
F alsehood: Jeremiah 14:12-14 False prophecy from false prophets and false expectations from sinful people.

A damant: These people who were fasting were adamant in doing evil, Zechariah 7:5-12
S trife: Isaiah 58:3-6. They were fasting with strife. We must remove strife from our lives for our prayers to be answered.

T ransgression: II Samuel 11:27; 12:16-18 God did not hear or answer the prayer of David. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed her husband, Uriah in order to cover his transgression. The woman got pregnant and gave birth to a sickly baby. He fasted and prayed for the baby to live but the baby died because of the abomination his parents committed.

I mpenitence: Jeremiah 36:6,9,21-24; Proverbs 28:9. Fasting and not obeying the word of God. Some people think they can change the mind of God by fasting.

N egligence: Luke 18:11-12, There was negligence in the lives of the scribes and Pharisees as exposed by Jesus in the in Matthew 23:23 where He accused them of neglecting the important things (living a righteous and holy life) God commanded them to do while paying attention to less important things (tithes and offerings).

G odlessness: I Kings 21:9-15; Here we see Jezebel raising up false allegations against Naboth through men who fasted before carrying out their evil acts. Some fast with greed in their hearts, Psalm 36:1; 7:11; Proverbs 21:27 The fasting, prayer and gift of the wicked is abomination unto God. He will not accept all from them.

2. THE PROVISION OF FULLNESS FOR NEW CREATURES IN CHRIST. Mark 2:18-19; John 3:28-29; John 1:12,14,16; 7:37-38; 10:10; 15:11; 16:24.
Because Jesus was with the disciples, it was a time of feasting, joy and abundant life and provision. Tonight, your joy can be full, the fullness of joy coming upon our lives because of the presence of the bridegroom with us. Jesus was referred to as the Bridegroom, and He said as long as He was with His disciples, they could not fast. There is fullness of joy in our lives because of our relationship with the Bridegroom.

Ephesians 3:17-21. Christ dwells in our hearts by faith, by this we are able to comprehend the love of God, and be filled with His fullness.

Colossians 2:9-10. In Christ dwells all the fullness of God. In Him we are complete, spiritually and physically. In every area of our lives, anything incomplete is removed, and we are complete in Him in Jesus name, Amen.

How do we get this fullness? It is all by faith.
- Through Christ, we have access to the Father. Romans 5:1-2
- By faith we get salvation and sanctification. Acts 15:9
- By faith we are healed of all sicknesses. Acts 3:16
- By faith we receive Holy Ghost baptism. Galatians 3:14.
- We conquer by faith. I John 5:4.
- How do we overcome the evil arrows of the wicked? By taking on the shield of faith. Ephesians 6:16-17
- Mark 11:22-24. I must have faith in God. I will have whatsoever I say, whatever I ask in prayer.

3. THE POTENTIALS OF FASTING UNDER THE NEW COVENANT. Mark 2:20
At times you do not feel the presence of the bridegroom. It is like He is no longer with you. Jesus gave directives on how we need to fast, it must be in secret, between us and God, and He will answer us in the open, Matthew 6:17-18. Our fasting will not be in vain, it will not be for nothing or worthless in Jesus name.
ch 17:19-21. The disciples were surprised that they could not cast the demons out. Jesus told them they should have faith in God. Also, when necessary, fasting should be added to make their prayers much more effective.
It is time to command that mountain to move away. Fasting does not need to be long and for days or months. You can fast a day or two, you can start by breaking as early as 12pm, or as late as 6pm or beyond, depending on your ability. You send an SOS to the Lord. Throughout the day, your mind will be on that problem, then in prayer, you command the mountains to depart, and they will depart in Jesus name!

The early church prayed and fasted after the Lord have been taken to heaven, Acts 13:2-4. They fasted and prayed to get power and courage for the great commission, and the Holy Ghost instructed them to separate unto Him Saul and Barnabas for the work ahead. They continued fasting and praying until they finished. They still prayed and fasted after the Pentecost. If you want the power of God upon your life, or direction when you need to make decisions, fast and pray.

Acts 14:21-23. Whatever the trial and challenges, we will overcome. Paul and Barnabas prayed and fasted before committing the brethren and the new converts they just preached to into the hands of God whom they believed.

I Corinthians 7:5. Couples must not deny themselves pleasure due to prolonged or indefinite fasting. They could go on a number of days fasting, but with the consent of the spouse, and come together again lest the devil take advantage of them.

Acts 9:9. Apostle Paul as a new convert, an apostle and a minister set time aside to fast and and pray. At his conversion, He fasted for three whole days.
I Corinthians 9:9. All through his ministry, he fasted often.
What was the result of this? Acts 13:8-12. The power of God was present mightily with him in his ministry. He was able to challenge Elymas the sorcerer who was trying to distract the deputy he was preaching to. Elymas became blind by the power of God and the deputy eventually believed.
Paul did not indulge himself in eating and eating. As believers, we must ensure we discipline ourselves and wait on the Lord from time to time. Power will multiply in our lives. Amen.

Acts 14:7-10. Paul healed the impotent man by the power of God. ch 16:16-18. He rebuked the damsel declaring them as servants of God by demonic powers. Immediately, the powers departed from her.
vs 25-26. In the prison, Paul and Silas sang and prayed, and the power of God came down mightily. The prison doors shook, all locks opened and every bond was loosed. To demonstrate the power of God in our lives, we must ensure that we are holy and pure. ch 19:11-12. Special handkerchiefs and apron from Paul healed many. Romans 15:18-21.

Mark 2:21-22. Jesus was telling the Pharisees that:
* Their old tradition and customs are not compatible with His new teachings
* The old rites and rituals will not be compatible with the righteousness by faith
* The old practice will not go with the New Testament provision and promises
* The religion of the old covenant cannot match the new relationship of a new covenant. Christ is the Mediator of the New covenant.
* The old concept of love cannot match the Commandment of the New Testament
* In the Old Testament, fear of the servanthood prevailed, but in the New Testament, we have the Son’s faith
* Full surrender to Moses cannot be compared to full submission to the Messiah.

New Wine In The New Bottle is:
- New Faith in the New Creature
- New Faithfulness to the New Commander
- New Followership of the New Captain
- New Freshness from the New Comforter
- New Fellowship in the New Congregation
- New Freedom from the New Counselor
- New Fasting with the New Comprehension

Isaiah 40:28-31.
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The time of tiredness, weariness, and weakness ends tonight. Power, and courage can come upon us tonight. Rise up and spend some time with God in prayer.

Prayer:
~ May we have the grace for supplication, and may God hear and answer our prayers,
~ May God continue to bless and lift our father in the Lord up in Jesus name. Amen.

MONDAY BIBLE STUDY WITH OUR FATHER IN THE LORD, PASTOR W.F. KUMUYI, LIVE FROM DEEPER LIFE HEADQUARTERS CHURCH, GBAGADA (20/05/19)

TOPIC: THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST OVER THE SABBATH

TEXT: MARK 2:23-28

- 23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

I want you to notice the phrase, “on the Sabbath day” because that will be the centre of the study tonight, as it was the centre of argument, confrontation and arguments of the Pharisees against the Lord Jesus and His disciples.

- 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

That is the word again. The Pharisees looked at the disciples of Jesus plucking and eating the corn with Jesus not rebuking or correcting them. He left them to do what they were doing. They had problems with that.

- 25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
- 26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

They asked a question and Jesus answered, resolved the issue and cleared their doubts by asking them a question in verse 25.

- 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

He made them know that the Sabbath was made for the for the profit, good, and progress of man and not the man for the Sabbath. The man will not be under the burden of, or not get any profit from the Sabbath.

- 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Finally, He told the final thing: His Lordship, authority, the ultimate Interpreter of the law and word of God.

The law of Sabbath was given to the children of Israel for their good, but the Pharisees turned it into a yoke of oppression. There were a lot of things they said the people could not do on a Sabbath day. They added to the word of God and it was a great pang of pressure they added to the lives of the people. What was profitable became unprofitable. What was good became a burden unto the people.

The commandments were ten, and the law on the Sabbath was the fourth but they singled out that particular one and negated and destroyed the effect of all the other commandments (Matthew 23:1-4) The problem is also prevalent today among many religious and church leaders, they say and do not, they preach and teach but they themselves do not. From the seat of Moses which they occupy, they teach the law for the people to do. The reason is that they themselves are weak, and not born again, they did not possess the grace or the power of God to enable them practise what they were teaching. They bind heavy burdens upon the people which they themselves cannot and will never carry, burdens they will not even lift with a single finger.

Mark 7:5-13. Preachers of today must ensure that they do not tow the line of the Pharisees. The Pharisees were not concerned about God or His commandments but about customs and tradition of the elders. They were more concerned about the people not washing their hands before eating. Something in the realm of hygiene became more important than the holiness of heart and life.

The hearts of the Pharisees are far from God. They worship in vain. They honour with their lips and teach the people the commandments of God. They were not saved or sanctified. They adhered more to the tradition of men than what God wants, they rejected the commandments of God and embraced customs and tradition of men which will not take them to heaven. On the pretence that they wanted to give to God, they abandoned their parents. They made the word of God of no effect.

As you look at your own personal life, are there traditions of your denominations that you have exalted above the word of God? If traditions of the elders of the church have taken over, that means we are also in the same shoes as the Pharisees.

Three things to look at

1. THE PROVISION OF LIBERALITY FOR THEIR SUSTENANCE. Mark 2:23
- 23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

Deuteronomy 23:24-25
- 24 When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
- 25 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.

Actually, the disciples were not guilty concerning what they did as seen in the text above. In Israel, as you go through the farms of your neighbour, you can pluck out of the corn and eat, only that you cannot put in your vessels (containers, baskets) to take home. (Leviticus 19:9-11) It is part of God’s provision for the poor and the stranger in the land that owners of farms do not fully harvest, glean their corns, or fully pick all the grapes from their vineyards so that those less privileged and needy ones could take advantage of the leftovers. The farmers may not even know them, but they are to make this provision.

Deuteronomy 24:19-21
- 19 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
- 20 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
- 21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
The word of God says that after harvest, and on your way home, you remember that you forgot one of your sheaves in the farm, you will not go back to pick it up. And you must not glean your vineyard for a clean sweep, those will go to the poor and needy. The instruction is: Leave something behind for the poor, widows and orphans.

Leviticus 25:6-7
The increase of the land is for everyone. The sabbath and the provision is for you. The leftover is a provision from God. It is the provision of the Lord that the poor will not die of hunger. So also you will do today, in your feeding, clothing and general welfare, you will bear the poor in mind.

Exodus 23:11
- But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.
The people were to cultivate their lands for six years after they will leave to rest in the seventh year. This is to further help the poor to get sustenance from the farmlands. After the poor have taken from the harvest leftovers, the remaining will be for the beasts of the field. God has made full provision for everyone.

II Corinthians 9:8-9
- 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
- 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
Children of God must not be stingy. You are not to consume everything God has provided for you. Good work is taking care of the needy, poor, sick, underprivileged. Believers must abound in every good work, they must be generous. The poor must benefit from the provision of God in their lives.

Romans 12:13. Believers must be given and addicted to liberality and hospitality for the sustenance of others. We must endeavour to meet the needs of poor people around us.

Galatians 2:9-10. Provisions must always be made for the poor. ch 6:9. We must not be weary in well doing, especially those who are believers, neighbours, and the less privileged generally. We must not allow people to suffer around us.

Acts 20:35.
- I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
It is more blessed to give than to receive. Believers should not cultivate the habit if always asking, and asking from others and not giving anyone anything in return.

2. THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW OF SABBATH
At times, when there are laws, and you do not know the purpose, they become useless. (Mark 2:24-25) Even the Pharisees did not know the law. Jesus had to take time to enlighten them, making reference to what David did in the days of Abiathar the priest. David was a king, and not a priest, but because of the exigency of the moment, that is, David and the men with him were hungry to the point of death, the king had to take from the bread to eat and give to the men with him.

Luke 10:25-27; Acts 13:27
Religious people in those days read the Old Testament but do not understand what they read. The veil of ignorance was still on their faces. (II Corinthians 3:14-16).

Why Did God Give The Israelites The Law Of the Sabbath? Deuteronomy 5:15
It is not a universal or international law, but just for the children of Israel only so that they could rest from their labours, go to the sanctuaries, synagogues, places of worship to hear the teachings of the word of God. This would help them to know what was right from what was wrong (Ezekiel 12:12,20). The sabbath was given to them as provision, not to exact labours as other days.

Isaiah 56:1-8:
So that the provisions which God has made for them will be revealed and brought to their remembrance. So that strangers and eunuchs who believe in the Sabbath would be brought together with them to worship God.

That the day might be dedicated to God in prayers, for seeking the face of God and praising His holy name.

It is also a day to bring others: strangers and the unsaved to His sanctuary so that they might know the Lord God.

Isaiah 58:13
The Sabbath is not an holiday, but an holy day set aside for the worship of God. It is not a day for entertainment, sports, photography, or merriment.

It is a day to remember that God is holy and all that would worship Him must do that in holiness and righteousness.

It is a day to honour God, not a day to speak the words of man but the word of God.

If they kept the sabbath, God will bless them.

In our own time, why do we no longer keep the sabbath which is the 6th day (Saturday) of the week? Why do we gather to worship God on the first day of the week (Sunday)?

The answer is OUR REDEMPTION WAS COMPLETED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK. As for the Israelites, the Sabbath marked the day God brought them out of the bondage of Egypt. In our own case, we were not in the bondage of Egypt but all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. More so, Jesus Christ rose up from the dead on the first day of the week, giving us redemption and salvation from sin.

Matthew 28:1-8:
- 1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
- 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
- 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
- 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
- 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
- 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
- 7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
- 8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

Take note, “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week . . .” That was the resurrection day of Jesus Christ and from then, believers from all over the world began to commemorate the day by meeting together on the first day of the week.

Acts 20:7
- And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Jesus said, “. . .do this in remembrance of me”. The disciples did not continue to meet on the Sabbath, but on the first day of the week as seen in the activities of Paul in the text above.

I Corinthians 16:1-2. The first day of the week became the Lord’s day when believers gather to worship and hear the word of God. Collections are made for the poor.

Revelation 1:10-18.
The first day of the week is also called THE LORD’S DAY. The messages from Jesus Christ to the seven churches in Asia were given to John the Beloved on the first day of the week. Jesus revealed Himself to John so that he in turn would reveal Him to the churches. Our Lord is alive forever.

We must know that there is a purpose for the first day of the week as new testament believers. Just as the Israelites gathered on the Sabbath, so are we to gather on the first day of the week to worship God.
We will not slide back into the error and falsehood of Pharisees and Sadducees, or into tradition and religion without righteousness. We will serve the Lord acceptably in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life. Amen.

3. THE PREEMINENCE OF THE LORD, OUR SAVIOUR. Mark 2:27-28
How do you understand this? The sabbath was made for man:

* So that he can rest his body from physical labour in order to regain lost energy
* So that man will bring his soul and spirit to God
* So that man can prepare for eternity.

You make Him Lord when you glorify Him on the first day of the week, Sunday. Merriment, travelling here and there will not be the Lord of our Sabbath.

John 20:26-29. On the first day of the week, when we come to worship, we know that Jesus is Lord.

Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Accepting the Lordship of Jesus brings salvation.

I Corinthians 2:7-8
Jesus is the Lord of glory. Recognising the Lordship of Jesus brings salvation and deliverance from sin.

Colossians 2:16-19. We must not allow any Jew or Sabbatarian to judge or condemn us on the fact we are not observing the sabbath. Jesus is Lord of all and we worship Him as Saviour, Sanctifier, Baptizer in the Holy Ghost, Healer and Provider of all things, and our Sufficiency.

Philippians 2:5-11
- 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
- 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
- 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
- 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
- 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
- 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
- 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
For our salvation and redemption, Jesus humbled Himself to the death of the cross. Hence, God exalted Him and gave Him a name that is above all names. HE IS LORD OF ALL to the glory of the Father.

Revelation 19:15-16
- 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
- 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
He is the One that rose up from the dead on the first day of the week. He is King of kings, and Lord of lords. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, of Sunday and everyday. He is the Lord of your life, your future, and everything in your life. He remains King of kings and Lord of lords.

He wants you to remember that whether Sunday or any other day of the week, whether the time we got born again, the time we are moving on with the Lord, or at Rapture, the Son of man is Lord of everyday and has dominion over your life, He has power of your life and you will not dodge from His lordship.

Prayer:
Rise up now and declare Him Lord. He rose from the dead for your justification, for the supply of every need in your life.
Remember that His words have authority over your life, so you will make provision for the sustenance of liberality, you will remember the light and day of the Lord, and you will not sit at home but be glad to be in His presence,
You will also remember the preeminence of Jesus over your life.

Everyday, He Is Lord! Amen!

The Lordship of Christ Over the Sabbath

Mark 2:23-26 KJV
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. [24] And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? [25] And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? [26] How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

They asked a question and Jesus resolved their issue by asking a question.

Mark 2:27 KJV
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

The final thing about His Lordship and as the ultimate interpreter of the Word of God.

Mark 2:28 KJV
Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

The law of Sabbath was given to the children of Israel for their good but the Pharisees turned it to a burden to the people.

They singled out the 4th commandment and now destroyed other commandments about God.

Jesus told them the attitude they ought to have to the word of God.

Matthew 23:1-3 KJV
Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, [2] Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: [3] All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

The problem of the Pharisees and many religious leaders is that they say but do not. They do not have the power or the strength or the grace to do the Word of God.

Matthew 23:4 KJV
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Religious leaders and worshippers would not even touch those commandments but would talk.

They exalt tradition above the word of God. They isolate one law or principle and exalt it above all the laws of God.

Mark 7:5 KJV
Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

They were not concerned about the law of God but only for their tradition.

Mark 7:6-7 KJV
He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. [7] Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

They left the commandments of God alone but their own tradition i.e.

Mark 7:8-9 KJV
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. [9] And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Their tradition became more important than the word of God.

Mark 7:10-13 KJV
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: [11] But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. [12] And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; [13] Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Are there some traditional things you do like a denomination, local church, religious people that have taken over the word of God.

1. The Provision of their Liberality for their sustenance.

Mark 2:23 KJV
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

Deuteronomy 23:24-25 KJV
When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. [25] When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.

It was a provision the Lord made to the children of Israel.

Leviticus 19:9 KJV
And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.

They must not reap everything.

Leviticus 19:10 KJV
And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

He made that provision for the poor and strangers in the land that you may not even know.

Leviticus 19:11 KJV
Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

Deuteronomy 24:19 KJV
When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.

If you leave something like that to the widow and fatherless it will be a blessing to you.

Deuteronomy 24:20 KJV
When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

Always remember the poor and leave something behind for them.

Deuteronomy 24:21 KJV
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

The principle in all our riches and wealth we will think about the poor and take care of them.

Leviticus 25:6-7 KJV
And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee, [7] And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.

The increase of the land will be for everyone.

It was a provision of the Lord that none of the children of Israel will die of hunger. It was for the liberality and sustenance of everyone.

Exodus 23:11 KJV
But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.

2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

When God has provided for you you are not to spend and eat everything unto yourself. Taking care of your neighbours, sick, underprivileged people are good works.

2 Corinthians 9:9 KJV
(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

You must have the testimony that you are a generous person. You have righteousness because you are giving to the poor.

1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Galatians 2:9-10 KJV
And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. [10] Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

Galatians 6:9-10 KJV
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. [10] As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

You will make provision for the sustenance of the people.

Acts 20:35 KJV
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Be a blessing to the neighbourhood.

2. The Purpose of the law on Sabbath.

Mark 2:24 KJV
And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

They didn't know the purpose of the Sabbath.

Mark 2:25-26 KJV
And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? [26] How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

The Shewbread was a kind of sacred bread which was set in the holy of holies which was only meant for the priests.

God did not condemn them because life was threatened.

Luke 10:26 KJV
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

Anytime you have a question go back to the word of God.

Luke 10:27 KJV
And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

If your neighbour is dying, hungry or sick what will you do, it says you should love your neighbour as yourself.

Acts 13:27 KJV
For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

2 Corinthians 3:14-16 KJV
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. [15] But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. [16] Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

Every veil will be taken away from your mind and heart.

Deuteronomy 5:15 KJV
And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

It is not an universal, international thing it was made for children of Israel.

Ezekiel 20:12 KJV
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.

The Sabbath was to be a sign between the children of Israel and God.

Ezekiel 20:20 KJV
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God.

So that the prophets will come before them and declare the word of God on the Sabbath.

Isaiah 56:1-2 KJV
Thus saith the Lord, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. [2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

It was for the children of Israel to go to the sanctuary and hear the word of God.

Isaiah 56:3-4 KJV
Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, The Lord hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. [4] For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;

When they go to the sanctuary on that Sabbath day and hear the word of God.

Isaiah 56:5 KJV
Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

So that they will hear of the promise He made to them so that they would not be cut off.

Isaiah 56:6-7 KJV
Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; [7] Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

So that they will dedicate that day to knowing the will of God and praying. To know how to connect with God.

Isaiah 56:8 KJV
The Lord God which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.

It is a day to bring in other people, to evangelise and to edify the people that come to the sanctuary.

Isaiah 58:13 KJV
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

It is not a day for sports or pleasures of the flesh. It is a day to honour the Lord.

Isaiah 58:14 KJV
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord ; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Why don't we keep Saturday as Sabbath.

Matthew 28:1-8 KJV
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. [2] And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. [3] His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: [4] And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. [5] And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. [6] He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. [7] And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. [8] And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

The believers began to commemorate that day.

Acts 20:7 KJV
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

The preaching, exaltation now shifted to the first day of the week.

The whole day was totally committed to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 KJV
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. [2] Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

No more Sabbath but on the first day of the week.

That first day of the week became the Lord's Day.

Revelation 1:10-18 KJV
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, [11] Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. [12] And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; [13] And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. [14] His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; [15] And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. [16] And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. [17] And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

He revealed all these on the first day of the week.

We know come to the Lord and worship and serve Him on this first day of the week. We will not slide back to religion and tradition.

Bible Study: (May 20, 2019) The Lordship of Christ over the Sabbath

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfb0DNa31Q0

3. The Preeminence of the Lord Our Saviour.

It was to be a day of rest from physical labour. The Sabbath was made for man because of his soul and his spirit. On the Sabbath he will now be refreshed in his soul and spirit.

Mark 2:27-28 KJV
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: [28] Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

When you glorify God on the Lord's day you are making Him the Lord of your life and of that day.

John 20:26-27 KJV
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. [27] Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

You recognise that Jesus Christ is the Lord of your life, of your family.

John 20:28-29 KJV
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. [29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Romans 10:9-10 KJV
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1 Corinthians 2:7-8 KJV
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: [8] Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Colossians 2:16-19 KJV
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days : [17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. [18] Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, [19] And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Philippians 2:5-11 KJV
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus is Lord!

Revelation 19:15-16 KJV
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Jesus is Lord in my life, family and every circumstance in my life even at the time of the rapture. He is Lord. He rose from the dead.

TOPIC: CHRIST'S POWER TO HEAL DESPITE THE CRITICS' PRESENCE

TEXT: MARK 3:1-6

- 1 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
- 2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.
- 3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
- 4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
The Pharisees were just watching, wanting to see what Jesus would do. They could not answer this simple and straightforward question, whether it was lawful to do good or evil on the Sabbath day, but we all know the answer.
- 5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
- 6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
We learned last week that Jesus Christ is Lord of angels and men, (ch 2:28) He is Lord of the universe, He is the Lord of all glory. These rulers do not see Jesus as higher than themselves. They saw Him as one of the Jewish or Hebrew people whereas, Jesus Christ is above the Pharisees, Sahendrin and the scribes. (Philippians 2:9-11). The Heavenly Father had given Him a name above the earth and heavens. He has put everything in the heavens and on earth under Him.

JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
He is the Lord who hears the cry of whosoever calls on Him. (1 Corinthians 2:7-8 ) He is the Lord of glory, and of the heaven and the earth, not only of the Sabbath.
Many today do not know who Jesus is, just as the Pharisees who wanted Him to be under their control and tradition, they wanted Him to be under the Sahendrin, their authority and interpretation of the law. They had problem with Him only because they could not achieve their aims.

Three things to consider

POINT NO 1. THE ACCUSATIONS AND THE GRUDGE OF HYPOCRITES BLINDED BY HATRED
Mark 3:1-3
Jesus was committed to doing the will of the Father, whether it pleases the Pharisees or not. He was focused on what His Father had sent Him to do. (Luke 6:6-7; 4:15-16,31-32; 19:47). He taught in the synagogues repentance, and transformation of life. He went into the synagogues to read the scriptures and teach them. As He taught, His words were with power. He taught daily in the temples, He was not deterred by the opposition and antagonism of His detractors. Thus, He is our perfect example on what to do when we are attacked for doing God’s work.
Mark 3:4; Luke 14:1-6. Jesus also taught in the house on the Sabbath day. The Pharisees were always looking at what Jesus would do. He, ignoring them, took the paralyzed man, healed and let him go. All the souls belong to Him. If the Pharisees would not leave their animals that fell inside the well on the sabbath, He also would not spare to heal any of His own, even on the Sabbath day. (Luke 11:53-54; 13:13-17) At the performance of the miracle,
Mark 3:4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. We also need to ask ourselves this question. Jesus asked them this question because even though they were against His doing good, healing and delivering, they themselves were planning to do evil and kill Him on the Sabbath day.
Matthew 5:44. As Christians, do good with every opportunity you have, to friends, foes, anyone. Do good without expecting to be repaid because God Himself will arrange a just compensation for you, (Galatians 6:10; James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin).
Mark 3:4. It is unlawful and sinful, anytime, any day to do evil. God will judge every evil work (Romans 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; )
II Corinthians 13:7-8
- 7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
- 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
If we plot, plan or work against the truth, we do evil. But we will not do evil at any time, on any account, for any reason, because we are children of God. (I Peter 3:12)
The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
III John 11
- Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
As children of God, do not follow or copy those that do evil. Something is wrong with them and their calling. At the end of life, all those who have done good will go to the right hand side: heaven, while those who have done evil to resurrection of damnation: hell fire (John 5:28-29).

POINT NO 2. THE HARDNESS OF THEIR HEARTS AND THE ANGER OF THE LORD Mark 3:5
“And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts . . .
Some people do not understand Jesus’ action in this verse. They say we are to walk in the steps of the Saviour and do all He did. That is right. Here, Jesus, our Lord and Saviour was angry and grieved at heart about the hardness of the hearts of the people.
But we must note that we are not exactly what Jesus is. He is Christ, Lord, Emmanuel, God with us, Creator who made all things, the Final Judge, and we are not. He and the Father are one and equal, we are not. He has been given a name above all names, but we are not given same privilege as Him.
The anger He exhibited here is divine anger, Creator's anger, the Lord’s anger, Emmanuel’s anger. He is not the same with us, He is different. There were many things Jesus did that we cannot do:
1. He walked on water, we cannot
2. As Creator, He cursed the fig tree, we cannot
3. As Lord, He accepted the worship of men and angels, we cannot
4. As Lion of the tribe of Judah, He renewed and redeemed Israel, you did not
5. As Smiting Stone that came out of the mountain, He is going to smite the nations and kingdoms, you would not
6. As the Final Authority, He condemned and damned all rebellious and unrepentant nations, you cannot.

Therefore, as there were/are many things that Jesus did and will do that we cannot do, we cannot say we will be like Him as regards His reaction of anger towards these people.
1. The Hardness Of Their Hearts. Zechariah 7:12-14
Their hearts were hard like stone. Therefore, the Lord said He will not hear them when they call. Jesus Christ was angry with the Pharisees just as God was angry with the Israel of old because of their hard hearts and unbelief. He wanted to open the door of heaven and save them, but could not because of their unbelief (John 12:40; Hebrews 3:7-9,12-19). Apostle Paul could not be angry with the people, He could only warn them, he was not the Saviour of the people.
2. Mark 3:5. Jesus was grieved. What kind of grief? The grief of the Creator.
The grief of the King of kings, and Lord of lords, it was the grief of God Himself. This is not an area where you will say you want to copy God. This is the prerogative of God Almighty Himself.
Genesis 6:5-7
- 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
- 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
- 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
God was grieved at heart because of the state of the earth. He expresses His grief by bringing judgment to the whole earth as in the flood of the time of Noah because they were His creatures. (Psalm 95:8-11). God swore in His wrath that they will not enter His rest. You mere mortals cannot bring judgement upon anyone. Only God and Jesus Christ can.
3. Mark 3:5. The Anger Of The Only Begotten Son Of God. Psalm 2:6-12.
We are to look for favour in the presence of the Son, bow to Him in honour and reverence, we receive Him as Lord and Saviour so that His wrath will not be kindled against us. If you reject Him as Saviour, you will meet Him as The Final Judge (ch 110:1,5; 21:8-10). It was prophesied that the Messiah coming will not condone evil, but He will express wrath as their sins. His grief is the grief of the Creator of the heaven and earth, and of the Eternal Judge.

POINT NO 3. MAN’S ANGER AND GRIEVANCES HARMFUL TO HIMSELF Mark 3:5-6
The action here is the action of the Creator. Jesus performed the miracle without praying, or in the name of anyone. He did not consult any higher authority because He Himself was the highest authority. He used the authority of the Creator. The man’s hand was restored as the other one.
Were they angry? Yes, they were (John 7:23). Jesus asked why they should be angry with Him when He did good. Indeed, it was Sabbath day but our Lord and Master has the right to perform miracles.
Man’s anger is harmful to him. He has no right to be angry with his Lord and Master. All over the Scriptures, we see man getting angry for various reasons. Anger brings pain and hurt to him who expresses it.
Genesis 49:5-7
- 5 Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.
- 6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
- 7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
Because of the evil perpetrated by these two brothers, Simeon and Levi, they did not receive any blessing from their father.
Numbers 22:22,27-31. God was angry with Balaam for going to Balak against His will. (vs 27) The ass was protecting Balaam but he was angry with it. Anger always pushes us to the wrong actions. He misunderstood the action of the ass which was actually trying to protect him against the sword of the angel. Man is ignorant. This ass was not contravening the will of God. Many times we get angry at people because we do not know that what they were doing was for our good. We need to pray that God will open our eyes so that we will always make the right judgment.
II Samuel 3:6-12,27. When you get angry, you destroy yourself. Ishbosheth, the son of Saul accused Abner of committing immorality with his father’s concubine. Abner was angry at this truth, and decided to switch allegiances from the house of Saul to David. On seeing him coming around, Joab, the head of David’s army deceived and killed Abner. David lamented that Abner died like a fool. (Ecclesiastes 7:8-9;
Psalm 106:32-33
The children of Israel provoked Moses because of their grumbling and complaining.
As a leader, you are not to be angry. You are to be careful in the way you respond to the attitude of your congregation. They are not to obey your commandments but that of God. If they disobey, let their judgment come from God. Your anger will hurt you and hurt the church of God. Do not be angry with the people because they did not obey your law. Continuing in anger will end in hell fire. Moses did not get to the promise land because he was angry with the people though he eventually made heaven, but he could not see the land He laboured so much to get them into.
Matthew 5:22
Why do people get angry? Because of their own laws which people are not obeying. Forget about yourself. Focus more on the law of God.
Ephesians 4:31-32. Do not be angry with people when they err. Pray for them instead. Be kind and tender hearted, forgiving one another just like Jesus.
As we conclude,
* Anger leads to hardening of hearts
* Anger hardens the hearts of the children and spouses
* It leads to hatred in the homes
* Anger hurts the health, brings weakness and high blood pressure
* Anger brings humiliation to the high minded as in the case of Nebuchadnezzar who had a dream but did not remember and planned to kill them all. It was Daniel that saved them all by interpreting the dream
* Brings hindrance to holiness of life
* Halts the saints in the way of holiness
* Leads to the horror and terror of hell
* Leads to death
Anger is a serious problem. It must be taken away from the life of all tonight in Jesus name.

TOPIC: THE PURPOSEFUL CALLING OF THE TWELVE BY CHRIST

TEXT: MARK 3:7-21
7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.
9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.
11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.
13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.
14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,
19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.
20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

Jesus called the twelve disciples for a purpose: He had work for them to do. He called them so that they will be with Him.

Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself was passionately occupied in His Father’s business. Right from the age of 12, He was found in the temple, deliberating with the religious leaders. Luke 2:48-50.
He came to the world to do something purposeful, positive, practical: to die for the redemption of humanity. His parents did not understand this. But then, He was occupied with what had been ordained to do from the foundation of the world. (Titus 1:2-3; John 10:17-18) It was not an afterthought. He came to redeem us from destruction.
He was irreversibly committed to the work. He and His had talked about it, and it was determined and He was going to continue against all odds. He laid down His life willingly, no one forced Him to do it.

I Peter 1:18-20. The ministry of Christ had been determined that He would come to the world and made the sacrifice that will save humanity from sin.

Before the Pharisees were born, before the nations of Israel came into being, so, no one, not even the Pharisees, Sadducees could stop it.

Looking at our ministry, we should know that it has been determined before you were born what you would do for God, and what your life would be used for.

Christ needed to commence His earthly ministry and He would choose the twelve disciples to carry on the work after His ascension.

A. THE POWERFUL CURE OF COMMON AND UNCOMMON DISEASES BY CHRIST. Mark 3:7-13
Jesus Christ performed powerful healing here. Let us look at three things:
1. Great Multitudes
Anywhere Jesus went, because of the demonstration of the power of God, and gift of healing. Great multitudes follow Him. They knew that something different that has never happened was happening around Him. Even today, anywhere Jesus is present, miracles happen, and great multitudes follow Him (Mark 4:1-2; 6:31-34).

2. Great Miracles Mark 3:8,10
These great miracles are still available today. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. We also, as His disciples will heal many. (Matthew 14:13-14) No matter the location we are, no matter how far, when the power of God is manifested, the people will come.
Luke 6:17-19. Any sick person here is healed in Jesus name. (John 6:2) Jesus healed both common and uncommon diseases. The blind, lame, halt, those with missing body parts, those that have been on the sick bed for long received their healing.

3. Great Maladies. Mark 3:10-12
Jesus also healed people with serious conditions like madness, possession by powers of darkness, leprosy, etc. The evil spirits heard His voice, and obeyed. They all fled and the possessed and tormented were delivered. (Luke 7:21-23)
John 5:5-9. This is the case of a man who had been sick for 38 years. He had been by the pool of Bethesda for those years because he had no one to put him in the pool when the water is stirred.
Note that Jesus did not need to pray because He is God Himself. He just instructed the impotent to rise up, take his bed and walk.
John 9:30-32. God will never put the power to work miracles in the hand of sinners. Precious jewels must never be put in the care of swines, otherwise they would trample on it.

B. THE PURPOSEFUL CALL OF CONVERTED DISCIPLES BY CHRIST. Mark 3:13,16-19
1. The Prayer Before Their Choice. Luke 6:12-16
Jesus did not just choose the disciples, He prayed. So also, when we need to do something important, when we need to make important choices and decisions: a place to live, the work to do, the partner to marry, where to live, where to build a house. Do we just decide and do whatever we want to do? No, we take it to God in prayer.

Acts 1:15-16,21-24. When Judas Iscariot was to be replaced, the apostles prayed, because that was the good example Jesus left for them. The apostles had nothing against the two brothers presented for prayer, but they had to pray in order to make the best choice. It is not my choice, or yours, or theirs but God’s.
ch 13:2-4. Before Barnabas and Saul were chosen, prayers were made, and the Holy Ghost spoke out and chose the two.

2. The Proof Of Their Conversion. Matthew 18:3
These disciples which Jesus chose, were they born again? Yes. They were born again, otherwise, how will you send someone who is not born again to go out and bring in sinners? (Luke 5:32; Mark 6:12) Jesus commissioned the twelve He chose. (Luke 10:20) Here, it was 70 He chose to go and preach the gospel.

3. The Persuasion Of Their Consecration. Luke 5:27-28
The work He had for them would only be done by people who were highly committed and consecrated. It was the highest work in Israel. If you want God to choose you for a higher service, you must consecrate yourself. When Jesus called Matthew, he left everything and followed Him. This is the case with all the disciples He called. God will give us the grace to forsake all and follow Him, whatever hindrance is on our way, a man or woman, a career, occultic practice, whatever it is, in the secret and open.

Some say why can believers not go into politics? It is in your hands, only ensure that it does not get into your way to make heaven. Whatever will hinder you from making heaven, no matter how important it is, must be done away with. (Luke 18:28-30; John 8:11) Whatever you are benefiting from the ungodly union: means of livelihood, accommodation, etc. look away from it, the Lord will take care of you. (vs 12).

C. THE PRACTICAL CULTIVATION OF CONSECRATED DISCIPLES BY CHRIST. Mark 3:14-15
Before Jesus started sending the disciples out to win souls, He first kept them with Himself to cultivate and make them ready. There is a process of training and transformation that Jesus took the disciples through. Today, for us to do what God, we must go through the training.

1. Conversion. (Acts 3:19) This is the first step to take before we can be appointed for God’s use. (vs 26)
2. Association. If you stay near the fire, you will get some heat, If you stay near the cold room, you will catch some cold, you will get wet and if you stay in the sun, you will sweat. Likewise, if you stay near Christ, all the goodness, ability and virtues in Him will flow into you. (Mark 3:14-15) Jesus chose the disciples so that they can be with Him and learn of His ways practically, (Luke 22:28; Acts 4:13) When you spend time with Jesus, you will get His character, courage. You will not shiver or be afraid.
3. Instruction. (Matthew 13:51-52) He gave instructions of what they did not know earlier.
4. Conviction. They needed to be sure He was indeed the Christ so that after He left, they would be able to continue with the conviction because they would still come under so much pressure (John 6:67-69) They believe and were sure that He was Christ.
5. Exposition. The Old Testament was covered and sealed up , so Jesus needed to teach them so that they can be properly exposed to the words of God. (Mark 4:34) They had the privilege to ask questions on any issues they do not understand (Luke 24:27,45)
6. Demonstration. Jesus demonstrated the training by doing in their presence exactly what He wanted them to do. (John 13:15-17; 15:15)
7. Impartation. Luke 9:1; 10:1-2,9
8. Delegation. After all the training, Jesus gave them what to do. He sent them out to preach the gospel (Luke 9:2; Matthew 10:5-cool Jesus sent them to do exactly all He had done Himself
9. Supervision. (Luke 6:30-31) Coming back from the field of evangelism, the disciples gave account of all they have done one after the other. We also today, anytime we are given any assignment, we must always give account so that proper supervision can be carried out by our leaders.
10. Correction. (Luke 22:24-27) Correction is needed in the process of training. Every worker for Christ must give room for correction in their ministries by their leaders.
11. Intercession. (John 17:9; Romans 8:34) Christ prayed for His disciples. He is still praying for us now, (Hebrews 7:25-26) He is our great High Priest.
12. Reproduction. Jesus wanted to reproduce in the disciples all that was in Him (Luke 6:40; I John 4:17) He desired that His disciples will be exactly like Him.

Surrender yourself wholeheartedly, head, heart, body and soul into God’s hands so that He will mold you and make you to be exactly what He wants you to be. You must first give yourself to Him. Have your quiet time, read your Bible, pray unto Him, have close association with Him.

May God give us the grace to be in close association with our Lord and Master
Amen!

TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY (11/06/2019) BY PASTOR W.F. KUMUYI, FROM DEEPER LIFE BIBLE CHURCH FREELAND BUILDING Bristol, BS5 6LD

TOPIC: THE SELF DESTRUCTION OF A DIVIDED KINGDOM

TEXT: MARK 3:22-35

22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan rises up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seeking for thee.
33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. The kingdom will end up destroying itself because it is fighting against itself, instead of fighting against a common enemy. That kingdom which turns the arms and ammunition at its disposal against itself can never stand. (2Chronicles 20:1,23) Here we see three kingdoms who had risen up to fight against Israel rising up to fight against themselves instead of joining forces against their enemy. They helped in destroying one another.

A kingdom, community, tribe, family (husband, wife and children) fighting against themselves cannot stand. It is a principle that has been from generation to generation. A church fighting against herself, using their swords and skills to fight against each other, that household of faith, that assembly of believers will not stand (Mark 3:24-25).

A family that will stand must be united. There must be togetherness. They must have the same goal, ideal, vision, destination, and walk hand in hand to reach the destination. When a family is united, they can win any battle. But when a family is divided, fighting themselves with their intelligence, skill, education, privileges they have against themselves, they will not stand. They will come to an end.

I Samuel 20:30-33. Anywhere there is anger, from the father, mother or any of the children, that family will not stand. Any church where the ministers are always angry with the members, or any of the leaders, the church will not stand. Anger does not understand good language, good disposition or good action. Anger will destroy the family. Here, we see the family of Saul divided against itself. After abusing his son, Jonathan and his mother over David, Saul cast a javelin at his son, a javelin meant to fight the enemies. A javelin he ought to have used against Goliath at the battlefront, but he was shivering! This is a family divided against itself, and it will not stand.

Any company or corporation that will grow must be united from the director to the messenger. Any community divided will not stand. A divided house, community, tribe knows no peace. For us to have peace, there must be unity, oneness. All opposing sides must be unified for progress and growth to be achieved.
A divided house knows no progress,
A divided church knows no purity, no peace, no progress. Without purity, no heaven,
A divided church is headed for perdition,
Unity is the strength of any family, church or community.

Mark 3:22. Here, they are talking about their Saviour, the Son of God, the One whom God had to send from heaven to save them (John 3:16) The Saviour who wanted to save them from destruction, they said He was operated by the power of Beelzebub. Hence, they rejected and resisted Him. They refuse His work of salvation. How can they be saved?

A. THE UNPREVENTABLE SELF DESTRUCTION OF DELUDED DECEIVERS. Mark 3:23-27,22
As the Lord was healing the sick, delivering the oppressed, and seeking to save the lost, all the Pharisees could say was that He was operating with the power of Beelzebub.

If a man is divided against himself, how can that happen? The brain controls all the other members of the body. But when the parts of the body rebel against the head - the brain, that is what we call insanity.

What happens to a man is what happens to a family that is divided. That family will lose focus, open the door for enemies to come in and destroy, they will pull down the roof on themselves.

If a nation is divided, like the nation of Israel was divided against her Saviour, the Messiah. They became blind and perish in self-imposed darkness. When the church follows the way and the path of religious Israel, that church is on the way to downward destruction, doom, and damnation (vs 22) These people knew better. (John 3:1-2) Nicodemus, one of the rulers of the synagogue came to Jesus by night, declaring, “. . . we know, that you are a teacher come from God . . .” Yet, they deluded themselves and accuse Him of casting the devils out by Beelzebub.

John 11:47-51. The chief priests and Pharisees knew Him as one who worked miracles. They were afraid that He would make them lose their positions in the synagogues and their nation to the Romans. They were more particular about the position here on earth than in heaven. They decided that if the bad language will not work, they would kill Him. But one of them called their attention to the prophecies in the Old Testament about the coming of Jesus, the Messiah to die for the nation.
Ch 12:10-11. These enemies consulted on how to put Lazarus to death. His raising Lazarus made many of the Jews to follow Jesus. Whatever people say or write, we will not stop believing Jesus. (vs 18-19) They were grieved that the world is gone after Jesus.

Matthew 9:34-38. Jesus did not allow negative comments and opposition to hinder or discourage Him. He still had compassion on the people and went about doing good.

II Samuel 15:6-11. Here we see the family of David divided against itself. Absalom came back from exile after being pardoned for killing Amnon. He planned how to forcefully take the kingdom from his father. This action brought division to the kingdom of his father.

I Corinthians 1:10. As brethren, mind the same thing, speak the same thing, teach the same doctrine.

B. THE UNPARDONABLE SIN OF DEGENERATE DESPISERS. Mark 3:28-31
These Pharisees and priests were degenerate despisers and they committed the unpardonable sin. Before we came to the Lord, we have sinned through all means possible, but we have pardon through the blood of our Lord Jesus. But He tells us here that whosoever sins against the Holy Ghost is unpardonable.

Everyone who comes to God through Jesus Christ will be forgiven, anyone who does not come through Him will not be saved. So, the Pharisees refused to come to Jesus by the power of the Holy Ghost, they refuse and reject the drawing power and influence of the Holy Ghost to draw them to Christ, they cannot be saved. They hinder themselves from being saved. We will not allow any brainwashing to draw us away from the Saviour. God is not willing that any should perish but those who lock themselves up, rejecting His salvation will have only themselves to blame at the end.

Acts 13:40-41. The despisers lock themselves up in perdition and damnation. (Matthew 13:15) They close their eyes to the light, the sun of righteousness. They will die in their sickness, they will not get healing because it is coming from Jesus. (ch 23:37-39) Jesus earnestly desired to save the people of Jerusalem, but they would not receive Him. (John 5:40) The people stifle the voice of salvation by rejecting the Lord.

Acts 7:51. They do always resist the Holy Ghost and they could not be saved. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) The whole nation of Israel by their rulers said that Jesus Christ came by the power of Beelzebub. They believe a liar.

Romans 10:21. God waited long, calling on the children of Israel. They did not respond to the call. They disobeyed and gainsaid the words of God and would not be saved.

Hebrews 10:26-31. Sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, (Jesus Christ is the truth) there remains no more sacrifice for such sins, and therefore receive no pardon.

Ezekiel 18:30-32. God calls the house of Israel to repentance because He had not ordained them to perdition. Committing the unpardonable sin was not God’s design. It was the people who chose that path. As many as coming to Him in repentance shall be saved.

C. THE UNPRECEDENTED STATUS AND STANDING BOF DEDICATED DISCIPLES. Mark 3:31-35
The Lord Jesus Christ was in the business of His father: preaching. Someone came to Him, telling Him His family wanted to see Him. He would not stop the preaching to go and see them.

Example: We are praying and our phone rings, and we stop praying, pick the call. We have not done well. We are telling God Almighty to hold on why we talk to mere mortals. Also, if we are preaching at a crusade and our family members come to see us, we will not stop preaching to attend to them. We will do exactly as Jesus did. May our lives be good examples for others to follow, Amen.

Jesus tells us that it is those who hear and obey His words that are His family members. He said not all that call Him Lord, Lord shall see the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 7:21; II Corinthians 6:14-18) We derive so many advantages as children of God. In light of this, we cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (ch 7:1).

Romans 8:14-17; I John 2:15-17. He that does the will of God abides forever. (ch 3:8-10) On the other hand, he that commits sin is of the devil. Whoever does not righteousness is not of God (ch 4:17) As Jesus did the will of God cheerfully, so also do we (Philippians 2:14-16) We will be blameless and harmless, and hold forth the words of life.

John 20:17.
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Romans 8:29. God wants us to conform to the image of His Son. Whatever is left to be done in our lives for us to be bonafide children of God will be done tonight in Jesus name.

Hebrews 2:9-11. Jesus tasted death for us on the cross. As many as coming to Him in repentance will be saved. He also has the power to sanctify us. It is His desire to bring us as sons into glory. He has the power to sanctify us, He will surely do so in our lives. Jesus is not ashamed to call us brethren.

Matthew 12:49-50
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Jesus is looking down from heaven, He is stretching forth His hand unto you, that as you come to do the full and perfect will of the Father, you are a child of God, a brother and sister to Jesus Christ, and as Jesus prayed and God answered Him, same way He will answer our prayers.

Make up your mind that whatever happens, you will abide in His word, and when the trumpet sounds and the Saints, Sons and Daughters of God are marching in, thank God, we will be there. All the grace, strength, abiding power, godliness and virtue we need, the Lord will give to every one of us in Jesus name.

Prayer:
Remember the Lord said, a house divided against itself cannot stand:
* Pray that the Lord will make you an instrument of unity, peace, progress, unity.
* Pray that you will be united in your spirit soul and body,
* Pray that your family will be united.
* Pray you will yield to the power of the Holy Ghost, abide in God’s will and when the trumpet sounds, you will be rupturable.

Christ's Predicted Revelation Through Parables

Mark 4:1-9 KJV
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. [2] And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, [3] Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: [4] And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. [5] And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: [6] But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. [7] And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. [8] And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. [9] And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Essential truth till He comes again.

John 3:2 KJV
The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

His teaching was pointed, practical and for all times.

Matthew 5:2 KJV
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

Mark 6:34 KJV
And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

A teacher comes from God who was full of the truth of God. He had no time to entertain people.

Luke 13:22-24 KJV
And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. [23] Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, [24] Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

When you hear the word of God is the time to enter the kingdom.

John 7:45-46 KJV
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? [46] The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

What He taught was essential, eternal and truth for all times.

Matthew 24:35 KJV
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Matthew 28:20 KJV
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 4:2 KJV
And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

He taught them many things in His doctrines. He wasn't having suggestions, proverbs, debates of the world but He came to teach the doctrine from heaven.

Mark 1:27 KJV
And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

Mark 12:38 KJV
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

This is not the doctrine of the elders or traditions but of Christ.

Mark 12:39-40 KJV
And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: [40] Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

He spoke persuassively.

Luke 4:32 KJV
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

John 7:16-17 KJV
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. [17] If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

The Lord is telling us that the teaching He has laid down should be emphasised and not allow other people to teach us any other doctrine.

1 Timothy 1:3 KJV
As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

No other one or doctrine can save except Christ.

1 Timothy 4:15-16 KJV
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. [16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2 John 1:9-10 KJV
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. [10] If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Anyone who doesn't abide in the doctrine of God does not have God. It is not the title, position, diction or eloquence it is abiding in the doctrine of Christ.

2 John 1:11 KJV
For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

You will not be partakers of the evil deeds of people in Jesus' name.

1. The Use of Parables by the Saviour.

Prophets had predicted

Mark 4:1-2 KJV
And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. [2] And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

The preacher sat and then the audience stood what mattered was the message that came from heaven. He taught repentance, righteousness by parables.

It had been predicted of old.

Psalm 49:1-4 KJV
Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: [2] Both low and high, rich and poor, together. [3] My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. [4] I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

Psalm 78:1-2 KJV
Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. [2] I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

When our Messiah, Saviour comes He will open His mouth in parables. The things written in the old testament that were in the dark He will open them up in parables.

Psalm 78:3-4 KJV
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. [4] We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

In the NT

Matthew 13:3,24-26 KJV
And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; [24] Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: [25] But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. [26] But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

I pray we will neither sleep nor slumber, especially pastors and teachers. So that people who sow tares in our church will not have the chance to sow tares.

Matthew 13:33-34 KJV
Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. [34] All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

Matthew 13:35 KJV
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

He came to fulfil prophecy.

Mark 4:33-34 KJV
And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. [34] But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

He went from the known to the unknown, He took a lesson from that and revealed heaven to them.

He interpreted all things to His disciples.

Mark 7:17 KJV
And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

Whatever the disciples didn't understand they asked Him.

Mark 7:18-23 KJV
And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; [19] Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? [20] And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. [21] For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, [22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: [23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

You will not be defiled.

The use of parables by the Saviour.

Luke 6:39 KJV
And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

Every doctrine that He covered He used a parable.

Luke 6:40-42 KJV
The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. [41] And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? [42] Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

I pray God give us understanding.

Luke 12:15-16 KJV
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. [16] And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

The parable is to avoid coveteousness, that a man's life consisteth not in the things he possesses.

Luke 12:17-21 KJV
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? [18] And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. [19] And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. [20] But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? [21] So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

2. The Uniqueness and power of the Seed

Mark 4:3,14 KJV
Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: [14] The sower soweth the word.

Luke 8:5,11 KJV
A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. [11] Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Proverbs 30:5 KJV
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

The seed is the word. The seed is pure and sound.

Proverbs 30:6 KJV
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Don't modify, mutilate or add other things to the seed.

Psalm 12:6-7 KJV
The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. [7] Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Psalm 119:89 KJV
For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

Psalm 119:140 KJV
Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 KJV
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

You receive the word of God because you read it and see the application in your life.

What does the word of God do that the opinions of men cannot do?

It saves you.

1 Peter 1:23 KJV
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Can people be born again today? Yes. Not Peter but the Word of God.

The Word Heals.

Psalm 107:20 KJV
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

The Word strengthens.

1 John 2:13 KJV
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

As you keep coming to the bible study you are strong. The word of God is not taken away by birds, not scorned, taken away by the cares of this word. The word proves, searches us.

Hebrews 4:12 KJV
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The thoughts and plans in our hearts are sought out.

It sanctifies:

Ephesians 5:26 KJV
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Ephesians 5:27 KJV
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

All the wrinkles, impurities, inbred sin the word will purge and cleanse it out.

The Word Cleanses us:

Psalm 119:3 KJV
They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

As long as His word abides in you you will not do iniquity. Sin will take His word from you and the word will take sin from you.

Psalm 119:9,11 KJV
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. [11] Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The Word Empowers us:

Acts 10:44 KJV
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

They receive that word not as the words of men but as the Word of God.

Acts 10:45-47 KJV
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. [46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, [47] Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

The Word Quickens us:

When we are tired.

John 6:63 KJV
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Build us Up:

Acts 20:32 KJV
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

The word feeds us with this manna from heaven:

Jeremiah 3:15 KJV
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Revives us:

Jeremiah 20:9 KJV
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Jeremiah was discouraged.

The word fruitifies:

Isaiah 55:10-11 KJV
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: [11] So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

This word will bear fruit in your life and family.

The Word Conquers:

Ephesians 6:16-17 KJV
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The word abides forever:

Matthew 24:35 KJV
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

1 Peter 1:23-25 KJV
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. [24] For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: [25] But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

3. His Unveiling and perception of the Soil.

Different types of soil

Mark 4:4 KJV
And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Many opinions, traditions treading on your mind. Fowls of the air takes away the word when you talk away the word.

Genesis 15:11 KJV
And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

Mark 4:4 KJV
And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Luke 8:6 KJV
And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

There are people who will hear the word of God and will not put moisture on it. It then becomes emotional hearing. The word of God will not fall on rocky ground in your life.

Jude 1:12-13 KJV
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; [13] Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

No conviction, no conversion. No transformation or change of life.

Mark 4:7 KJV
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

Isaiah 5:5-6 KJV
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: [6] And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

When the hearers are not bringing forth fruit that is what is what God is going to do.

Hebrews 6:7-8 KJV
For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: [8] But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

That will not happen to me in Jesus' name.

When you hear the word of God you have to make sure that your heart is not hardened so that it can bear fruit.

Proverbs 24:30 KJV
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

The field of a lazy person lazy to pray and to bring forth fruit.

Proverbs 24:31-32 KJV
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. [32] Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

The instruction you receive you will apply. What instruction did he receive?

Proverbs 24:34 KJV
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

Mark 4:8 KJV
And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

It is the same seed but the kind of soil makes the difference.

Galatians 2:4-5 KJV
And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: [5] To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

Stony ground broken up:

Isaiah 62:10 KJV
Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.

Gather out the stones.

Isaiah 57:14 KJV
And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.

Any habit, action, friend, idea that will not allow the seed to bear fruit in your life should be taken out.

Jeremiah 4:3 KJV
For thus saith the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

The cares of this life.

Hosea 10:12 KJV
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

Ezekiel 17:5,8 KJV
He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree. [8] It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

The word you hear is planted in a good soil. You are bearing fruit.

Isaiah 37:31 KJV
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

You will bear fruit and the result of hearing the word will be recognised everywhere in Jesus' name.
