Motorists' safety is our concern ,says Gov Akeredolu

The Ondo State Government has again committed itself to the rehabilitation of failed portions of a Federal Road in the state without making reimbursement of money spent on the repairs as condition.

This development is coming few days after the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, took time off other duties with some members of his cabinet to inspect progress of reconstruction work on eleven failed portions of Owo-Ikare Federal Road.

This time it was the Akure-Owo highway where work has commenced on the failed portion that has left many motorists in a dilemma due to its deplorable state.

Speaking to Government House Reporters,while inspecting the road, Governor Akeredolu said the State Government had made several efforts to ensure that the Federal Road Maintainance Agency, FERMA,intervene on the failed portions of the federal road but was told that it won't be feasible until after eight weeks.

The governor said the hardship motorists and commuters plying the road which leads to the Northern and Southern parts of the country were going through have become unbearable.

This unpleasant situation according to the governor prompted the State Government to order its Direct Labour Agency to begin work on the failed portions despite having been told by FERMA that the state would not be reimbursed at the completion of the rehabilitation.

The Director in charge of Direct Labour Agency in the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Stephen Akinbode said two failed portions have been identified on the ever busy highway from the Owode end after the Akure airport to Eleyowo area .

He said after clearing the existing block drains on the road, proper stone base will be put before asphalting.

He assured that the work would be completed within two weeks.
