Nigeria, We Hail Thee ! by Olumogun: 9:35am On Sep 02, 2010 |
I am just wondering if anybody here can help with the lyrics of the Old National Anthem without looking at any reference or copying it out from somewhere. The first line reads:NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE, If u can just give it a trial. lets see how many line U still remember. (Avoid Cheating on Urself by copying it out - just be honest this once) |

@all this is the National Anthem THE OLD Nigeria, we hail thee, Our own dear native land, Though tribe and tongue may differ In brotherhood we stand Nigerians all, and proud to serve Our sovereign motherland. Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign In peace or battle honour'd And this we count as gain To hand on our children A banner without stain O God of all creation Grant this our one request Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed. This is copied from the CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (1978) |

phemmy88: I sang this in school and fell in love deeply with every word. I become emotional anytime I sing it around the house and have my daughter singing it too. Those were the days when being a Nigerian counted for much and one got terribly insulted when asked if s/he were West Indian. thanks phemmy and thank Olumogun for thread |

Nice words in the anthem but the important thing is, are we ever going to be like the Nigeria prophecied about in the anthem? |
Re: Nigeria, We Hail Thee ! by phemmy88(m): 5:10am On Sep 09, 2010 |
I heard it was changed after independence because it was composed by the "whites" |
