THIS IS NO DAY DREAMING BECAUSE I ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY INTERCONTINENTAL ACCOUNT AND THE NEXT DAY THE MONEY DISSAPPEARED, THOUGH I GOT THE ALERT FOR BOTH DEPOSIT AND WITHDRAWAL BUT NO KNOWN NAME, I LEARNT THEY USUALLY USE IT TO DO QUICK BACK BUSINESS IN THE BANK.

UP NIGERIA, THAT ALSO MEANS THEY CAN EVEN WITHDRAW YOUR MONEY WITHOUT YOUR APPROVAL AND NOTHING HAPPENS.

NIGERIAN BANKS ARE NOT SAFE PERIOD

mjbaba:

for what? dem carry him money??

seriously, the responses here have been very interesting. Whats the big deal here? An obvious error led to someone's account being credit and it was reversed. kini Big deal? there is no frau anywia. if the bank staff had wanted to be fraudulent, they would have credit the sum to an account whose owner they know or an account opened for that purpose. its not in these days of transaction alert that they will credit one student's account with the intention of fraud.

You seem to be missing the point of this whole thing.
I did bring this article here because the boy was "cheated". Rather for Nigerians to see the kind of money circulating behind the scenes.

Here are the facts:
1. It was a savings account.
2. We are not talking about 9,000; not 90,000; not 900,000, not 9,000,000 but 9,000,000,000.
3. Who moved this money and for what purpose?
4. According to the law, the EFCC must be alerted if such amount is being moved.
5. As it was a savings account, you cannot pay into it with a cheque or was that much money in cash?
6. Who counted it?
7. He withdrew money Friday night, and when he went back on Sunday, the money was gone (The time interval is also an issue)
8. Now, there is no trace that something like that happened. Even the 20,000 he returned (payed in with teller) is not in anyway in his accounts.

Please wake up to reality, some stolen wealth is being smuggled here. Period.

This is pure example of MOney Laundering and in banking terminologies its called Layering. this is the movement of the said amount to different accounts to disguies the final destination of the funds.

This is a posting error on the part of an officer of the bank and it was reversed after the acct owner withdrew the 20000Naira. hence the officer involved will be sanction, im pretty sure the error was costly

Re: 'Who Lodged N9.3bn Into My Bank Account?' by Ibomade1: 2:52pm On Sep 07, 2010
It could be an internal error of posting in the Bank or someone in the bank trying to play smart by delibrating posting it into his account.

Our banks are the pivot of money laundering, without them it's not gonna work! I'll give you an example: my uncle is doing his distant education in Imo State University. Three months ago he went to pay his school fees in the usual bank. Being in his final year he'd memorized the university's acc. no. and promptly filled the teller and submitted. To his suprize the cashier told him to clean the acc. number. Worse still, he wasn't given a new one. He was told to pay like that! He refused but later yielded when the futility of his feistiness got to him. As a reciept, he was asked to fill a form and take it to the school bursary. That is one of Ohakim's Clean and Green Initiative. Now this wouldn't have pulled through without the concrete connivance of the bank. . .

I am apalled by comments of some of you guys that have calling for revolution against the political class. It is obvious that you will do worse things if given the opportunity, How can errorneous posting into your account be seen as manna from heaven?,

Chairman you misdiagnosed the whole thing. If the money was lodged into that account, mistakenly especially, it's procedural that the guy be alerted 'cos the system is automated. Nothing happened. My theory is the money was suppossed to cool off in an 'innocent' account for the weekend before being moved, probably to a foreign bank. Then when the account suddenly got 'guilty', the money was quickly moved(as would have happened, anyway). And you'd be making a clown of yourself if you think the cashiers at the counter handle transactions of that magnitude. It is handled by the managers damagers, and it's not even a diurnal affair!

Re: 'Who Lodged N9.3bn Into My Bank Account?' by 1759(m): 3:56pm On Sep 07, 2010
There is something fishy going on in that bank. From my little knowledge of accounting, you don't delete entries. If a wrong entry is made, you correct it by reversing it i.e. if you wrongly credit an account with X amount of money you reverse it by debiting the account with the same amount of money, thats how its done. His account statement should reflect both entries but in this case the entries were deleted totally.

Besides why was the triplicate copy of the slip he used in depositing the N 20,000 taken from him. There is definitely something shady going on.
Re: 'Who Lodged N9.3bn Into My Bank Account?' by Redman44(m): 4:27pm On Sep 07, 2010
This is a classic case awaiting investigation by the EFCC. The money could have been laundered on behalf of some politicians or Ministers in the country. It could even be money that has been approved for a concert. A lot of strange things go on in Nigerian Banks and I won't be surprised if other innocent Nigerians accounts are being used to launder ill gotten money. This story is really mind blowing lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

I get your point, but this looks more like a human/posting error. I doubt anyone will carry a cash of N9B around for deposit.

Also some Savings Accounts allow cheque deposit and funds can be transfered electronically into savings account.
