I don't even understand all the people coming to jubilate here? the season is a long one and only Manure is yet to lose. These are not the games we should be losing, from the little I could see, the boys were just complacent and this is not how to become champions.
I hold Sagna culpable for the 1st goal with Clichy and Song culpable for the 3rd and Almunia should have committed to getting the ball for that 2nd goal, it seemed he could have gotten there before that guy who put in the ball across the face of goal, but he hesitated yet again maybe becos of the yellow and the initial penalty.
At the least Chelsea could say they were beaten away and only by a goal, how on earth could we go 3-0 down at home before coming to our senses? This was a poor performance and really painful, now the media will descend on us again and rightly too.

What do you mean you don't understand?
It is OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT on this land.
If we dont . . . we could lose our citizenship (A BAN BY SEUN) grin grin grin grin

AW has described the performance as 'POOR' all round.
Now I expect him to slam the big Hammer.
Any performance like that and the whole team would be transfer listed
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by Moonstone(f): 6:10pm On Sep 25, 2010
That was quite devastating. I wasn't even expecting West Brom to score a goal (maybe with my Odemwingie there, I had a lot of hope). Wenger needs to re-evaluate that team and he needs to find a way to get around simple errors like that of Almunia. i have to say though, that Nasri is really doing well this season

But it's pretty bad when their first away win is against such a big club. Gives them hope. At Emirates again? Dang!

I'll take heart from the fact that we scored the goals when we at least tried to.

I hope this complacency is the last ever.

Arsenal is just starting and it will get worse as this team is stil more of the same

Dr Kit has been right all along and so has Myles P, Wenger is a recidivist
Enjoy the good games and cry through the sad ones.
This team can not be great.

I hope it does not affect our champions league game so we can continue making the big bucks
i hope the chavs dont strafe us too much

@ ritchboy

I hope you're happy with your 'unpluggable' gap. grin grin

I have said it before and I say it again. . . .Almunia is not good enough to wear the No 1 Jersey at Arsenal football cliub.

Let all the 'Arsene knows best' crew come up with the excuses for this loss. I am strangely unaffected by it because I've been mentally preparing myself for such a crash. Sad day indeed for Arsenal FC.

Arsene Wenger : Arsenal 'Deserved To Lose' To West Bromwich Albion
Manager refuses to blame Almunia for defeat,

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave an honest assessment of his side's poor performance against West Bromwich Albion today, by admitting that his side deserved to lose.

In the shock result of the day, West Brom surged into a 3-0 lead and also missed a penalty. Arsenal rallied late on with Samir Nasri scoring two late goals, but the Gunners never got going and deservedly fell to their first home defeat of the season.

"We deserved to lose the game," Wenger told Sky Sports News. "We were not up for it quality wise or concentration wise."

Despite saving a penalty midway through the first half, Manuel Almunia's goalkeeping skills came under question once again when he let Jara's tame shot squeeze into his near post to gift West Brom a two goal lead.

Yet Wenger refused to criticise his goalkeeper saying: "It would be too easy to discuss individual mistakes but I don't think any of the players were up to there usual level today. I feel we had a lack of concentration and at this level you pay for it."

With Chelsea losing 1-0 to Manchester City in the lunchtime kick-off at Eastlands, an Arsenal victory would have put the pressure on the league leaders, but Wenger doesn't think that the earlier result effected his team's perfomance.

"It isn't about what the others do, it's our performance that matters, we don't need to look at the results of other teams," Wenger said in his post match press conference.

"I didn't recognise my team today, we didn't deserve any points and we didn't get any."

Next up for Arsenal is the short trip to Stamford Bridge, which thanks to this result, is likely to prove pivotal if Arsenal are to maintain their hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy come May

the whole defence was totally in shambles today, if he is to be blamed it will be only for the second goal. A greater chunk of the blame should go to the defence.

I am not in full agreement. . . .from comments I've read, he was blatantly at fault for one goal and could've done better for a second goal.

Besides, for a club aiming for the EPL the GK must be of the calibre that can bail out the defence when they screw up. . . .it is clear that Manuel Almunia is not of that calibre, despite claims to the contrary.

hhow many times have we heard this before? if its not the defence, it is the keeper and if not the keeper we did not have a striker
i remember AW saying we were not balanced defensively and we saw a few moves by kokomaster and we were in orgasm
Wenger does not believe in defence!

Let me post from the last time we won the league the number of goals conceded and the winner of that year

2004
Champions: Arsenal : GA - 26
Position: 1st GA - 26

2005
Champions: Chelsea : GA - 15
Position: 2nd GA - 36

2006
Champions:  Chelsea : GA - 22
Position: 4th GA - 31

2007
Champions: ManU : GA - 27
Position: 4th GA - 35

2008
Champions: ManU : GA - 22
Position: 4th GA - 31

2009
Champions: ManU : GA - 24
Position: 4th GA - 37

2010
Champions: Chelsea : GA - 32
Position: 3rd GA - 41

Our defence being poor is a constant K and we have conceded 237 goals and  averaged 33.9 goals over the last seven seasons.
The champions of the period have conceded 168 gols and averaged 24 goals. From a rule of thumb we conced say 9 goals too much every season and this is where an above average keeper will do us good!!!! We already have 7 gols this season
Last season Hahnemann of Wolves was ranked higher than Almunia in Castrol ranking. That is piss poor!! duduspace it is pisspoor
Reina was instrumental in making the Kops season not as bad as it shoulda been last season and so was Joe Hart for Bham.

A great keeper in my opinion is singularly instrumental in contributing 10 - 13 points to a team's kitty (this is the equiv of 3 wins and 2 draws)
we love this club but damn, this is not the way to go,
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 8:27pm On Sep 25, 2010
Head don dey clear small small.

1.@A-40
I owe you and Theo an apology, don't get me wrong I still think he is one of the least naturally talented attacking players in the club but I do wonder if Jerome Thomas would have been confident enough to be playing so high up our side of the pitch and turning Sagna inside out if Theo was on today, pace has its uses.

2. I can forgive Koscielny and Diaby for their performance in this game but I can't forgive Sagna, Song and Clichy escpecially for being culpable and all the others to a lesser extent, they were rested for this game and just didn't turn up. What has happened to Song this season? I hope he aint doin a Clichy?  undecided

3. This is not a calamity but it is a silly setback that shouldn't have happened at all, I can cope with us coming against a better team and failing but to not be able to put a team we're better than away is unforgiveable this is WBA that we sent a team mostly of U18s to in the CC last season and came back with a 2-0 victory, what happened today is akin to Wigan shipping 9 goals to Tottenham, this team should refund all supporters who came to watch them today to show some remorse.

Wey dose guys wey talksay Koscielny and Squillaci go guarantee clean sheet for Arsenal?

If na Chelsea defenders concede 3 goals (+ penalty) at home to West Brom, we for don flog them comot for Stamford Bridge.

If you are largely responsible for conceding 41 goals, yu can't be ranked very high, no matter how good you are. The team as a whole didn't help Almunia much today. He had already saved a penalty while getting a yellow card due to no fault of his. He should have been given better protection by the defence after that. Even if we had Cech in goal, there wasn't much he could have done about the first goal, the 2nd was a 50/50 but I don't know why he didn't commit for the 3rd goal, I felt he could have gotten to it he does have some blame for that but our outfield players aren't definitely covered in glory for any of those goals.

Debo I'd advise you see the whole match. It will be so easy to blame almunia if you see only ther highlights. It was total shambles of team display. I mean every forking person. Even the nasri that scored 2 goals.

What nonsense are you talking? did they not concede 3 against Wigan last season? and 4 against Newcastle just mid-week?

GBAM right on the head, he only started playing after we were 3-0 down, he was so lackasidal before that. Trust the media to descend on Almunia as usual, it is so easy for them to make him the scape goat, if Sagna will stand like a mumu  and allow Jerome Thomas go past him like that on the edge of our box or Clichy will claim to be blocking someone and open his toros like a love-peddler's kini, what exactly is Almunia to do?  undecided

The last i checked you conceeded 4 goals against NC on Wed so what are you on about? And do not give me that excuse of a second string team yada yada. . .

The name of the team was Chelsea and it was at Stamford Bridge.

Back to the game. . .

But for that late "resurgence" by Nasri, every member of the team was piss poor today. From the way Sagna was "deleted" for that first goal,to the misplaced passes and lack of sharpness in the attack,no one can be spared.I can not remember the last time we were beaten by a lower-table team without been physically assaulted but it did happen today. We did not deserved a point from that match, never mind,a victory.

Our next 2 matches are not the type i can confidently say we will get point(s) from, hence why i am uber-gutted.

It was an EXTREMELY POOR performance on the day.

But seriously though, biolabee is right. . . .we need a keeper who can get us outta jail even when the defence is screwing up. Almunia is not that kind of keeper. That aside, Clichy has been causing calamities in that defence with alarming regularity. Time has come for Wenger to bench him and play Gibbs instead. . . .he can't be any worse than Clichy is and is bound to improve.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 9:01pm On Sep 25, 2010
On a lesser note though, what is it with Arsenal old boys playing against us? If Aliadere would only score 2 goals in a season while at 'Boro yu cld be sure he wld score it when he plays against us, now its Jerome Thomas of all people comin back to haunt us undecided
I'm already praying Arsenal fans' least favorite prodigal son doesn't make Mancini's team when we play against them. grin grin grin

the 2nd was a 50/50

Second was a 50/50?He parried the ball into his own net. While Kos has to share some blames for not tightening the angle and closing down the scorer, the way Al just deflected the ball into his own net was laughable. His reaction says it all.

duduspace:

I wouldn't be too hard on him for the third goal. . . if i were in his shoe,i will be hesitant to commit to such a ball after conceeding a penalty cum caution earlier in the game. But the question must be asked, where was EVERYONE that was supposed to be covering that part of the 18?

We never won any 50/50 ball in the midfield,Song has lost every modicum of defensive ability he's acquired in the last 2 seasons, and if Nasri is in a game and people are still blaming AW for resting a Wilshere who's already contributed more than expected this season,THEN there is a MAJOR problem.

I can not remember Carson making any save in the first half. . . DAMN.
