Phase 3 involves the following: - Construction of additional floor to Unit 3 - Renovation of Units 1, 2, and 3 and the International Arrivals building. - An airside corridor to separate arriving and departing passengers - New boarding bridges - New Flight Information Display System (FIDS) and baggage, security and communications system (However, I am already seeing new FIDS/flat screens in some parts). According to Msafiri, Phase I is done which involves: - Expansion of aircraft parking from 200,000 metres squared to 300,000 (parking bays are now 43 from the previous 23) - Extended the apron to cared for the new Terminal 4 and the associated eastern and western taxiways and airside access roads. Phase 2 has already began with the construction of the parking lot and slow renovation of the terminals (I think they are trying to do it in a way so as not to disrupt operations, ) |

Some photos from Java House at the airport. There is also a nice screen near the counter so that you can check your departure times/gate numbers. |

Things are looking up. Just like in the rest of Kenya ATM. Coffee prices have gone up (that's a big deal here) as well as other agricultural activities and there is alot of cash coming in from students in universities that have their campuses around town. Tourism also seems to have picked up. New law courts. Game Rock. One of the areas where coffee plantations are giving way to suburban development. |
