What Is Jamb Market Place Operations

If you have ever asked the question or you are still asking the question, “What is Jamb Market Place?” Well, in this article we will explain to you the meaning of the jamb market place with practical examples.

Jamb Market Place is just a market like your everyday market but it’s only different in that it’s an admission market.

A market is a region where buying and selling take place but Jamb Market Place is a place where schools source for candidates who meet their criteria but are available in the market place due to the fact that they were not taken or given admission by their preferred institution, to be considered for admission.

Also, students who didn’t initially filled an institution or course can also source indicate interest in a school of choice.

Now, let’s answer some few questions frequently asked by candidates:

CAN A SCHOOL I DIDN’T SHOW INTEREST IN CONSIDER ME FOR ADMISSION?

Of course, yes. Like we earlier said, the Market Place feature in CAPS provides flexibility for the Institutions to source for candidates who may not have earlier chosen the institution for Admission consideration.

And these institutions may specify various selection parameters such as UTME score, State/Local Government, Gender, preferred programmes/course of the Candidates.

You don’t need to make interest before you are considered for admission by the institution, in as far as you meet the criteria of admission by the school, you will be considered. But there is reserve right to either accept or reject the consideration.

WHO WILL CONTACT ME, THE SCHOOL OR JAMB?

Jamb is supposed to contact you. Jamb serves as a middle man in the admission process to regulate the admission processes of various institutions all over Nigeria.

When the school has successfully shopped for the students considered for admission from Jamb Market Place, the list is compiled by the school and sent to Jamb who in turn makes contact with the candidates by letting them know of the Jamb Market Place Consideration by the Institutions.

CAN I REJECT THE ADMISSION CONSIDERATION OFFER?

Yes, you can. When a school considers you for admission, you are at liberty to either reject or accept the school’s request.

Meanwhile, there is a limit to the number of times you can reject offers by schools from the market place. The limit is three at a time.

If you keep rejecting the offer of institutions from the jamb market place, you will be removed from the jamb market place and not be considered further for admission.

CAN I GENUINELY APPROACH THE JAMB MARKET PLACE AND ANNOUNCE AVAILABILITY FOR ADMISSION CONSIDERATION FROM ANY INSTITUTION?

Yes, you can.

Candidates could also approach the Market Place to announce availability for Admission consideration from any institution or for any programme different from those earlier indicated during the UTME Registration, provided s/he has requisite O’ Level Results and wrote the required subject combination in the UTME.

This is to say you can’t write maths, eng, physics and chem combination in UTME and decides to approach the market place to now study law, it won’t work.

The jamb market place is not an opportunity to just choose any course but a place where you can choose a course based on your previous preferred course of study or a course that’s in line with your O’level requisite.

Nevertheless, you can still stick to your preferred course of choice.

IS IT ALL THE CANDIDATES THAT WROTE JAMB THAT IS AVAILABLE IN THE JAMB MARKET PLACE

No. It’s like having a foam you lie on in your room and asking if the foam is still available to be bought in the market. It’s not possible.

The only candidates available in the jamb Market Place are candidates that have not been given admission. Also, candidates who reject the admission given to them either because their courses were changed or for personal reasons are made available in the jamb market place.

If a school should offer you provisional admission through jamb, you are expected to either reject or accept the admission. When you accept the admission, your name is forwarded to the school to be updated on their school portal or page.

Furthermore, if you reject, you will be made available in Jamb Market place to be considered for admission by other schools.

Please note, you may also be considered by your first choice school for admission even though you have been made available in the Jamb Market Place.

But it is very unlikely most especially when your first choice school has thousands of candidates who want to attend the school.

IF A CANDIDATE AND AN INSTITUTION REACH AN UNDERSTANDING, WHAT NEXT?

When an agreement is reached, a candidate must have to buy the change of institution form to indicate interest in the institution and upload in jamb portal.

This is made available to download by Jamb Portal to the institution so they can follow up with the subsequent steps in the admission process.

Admissions of candidates can be processed instantly or in batches by Institutions.

Notes: It should be noted that the existing window for candidates to change Institution or Programme in addition to the Jamb Market Place is only made available through the e-Facility and for some time.
