splendore: Sure, glad to be of help. However, in the interest of not derailling this thread, (I'm guilty of this too) could you start a fresh thread, specific to the Audi Brand? I'll be more than happy to contribute, give my own experiences and answer any technical queries. I'll keep an eye out for your thread. |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash: 3:43pm On Sep 27, 2010 |
I respect Audi alot, but for fear of Naija mechanics, 1994-2000 mercedes in my opinion, are more tolerable to funny mechanics than Audi, Siena would be the best man for your Audi or even Benz, Siena, you are to champion the Audi thread pls, create a thread for AUDI, its long overdue for you. |

@everyone-Great Thread! I'm currently torn btwn buying a Benz w124 E series circa92-95( 4Cylinder injector) vs a BMW 5series 525 six cylinder model(its not an inline six) I've driven a BMW 3 series in the Past & it totally put me off Japanese cars Forever? I make Bold to say that U cant switch between a BMW/Benz & a Salon Type Japanese car with Ease! there's something to do with Solidity that the Japanese models just lack. It must have something to do with stability, drag coefficients etc. i lack the technicalese for it, but they just handle differently. At best, after driving a Benz/BMW, U could try a Lexus/Infiniti type jeep. But its likely U'll never really return to Japanese salons easily. 2 Likes |

@Siena i have spent the last few days going through manheim.com looking for a 2008-2009 C-Class and only suceeded in getting myself confused. Am in New Jersey now and my host who is helping me buy the car isnt helping matters. according to him,the sport package of the C-class 08 is the best of the bunch and second only to the AMG type. But how can that be so when some sport versions are cheaper than the Regular ones That is for cars with similar millage and history. What trim level would you recommend and any known issues with the 08 model? i have been a honda man all through and this is a step into the unknown. Considering the fact that the car isnt exactly cheap,i cant afford to make a mistake. And how come both the 300 and 350 models are both V6? thanks |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Nobody: 6:43pm On Sep 27, 2010 |
trisurface: German models are definitely way better than Japmobiles. Japanese cars tend to be loaded with gadgets you seldom use, and this will of course attract buyers. German models are more no-nonsense, and are referred to as "driver's cars". Japmobiles lack that solidity. By the way, all BMW 6-cylinders are in-line sixes. No V6 models were ever built, and won't be, in the foreseeable future. 1 Like |

harakiri: My Guy, if the oldest v-booth can be manufactured in Naija today, dont you think lots of people would be proud and appreciate it?, lets remove our minds from being soaked as mere onlookers and consumers in this fast growing world. I am sure you could still find cars like the old Opel Kadet or the regular benz or even the old VW bettle still in use in these advanced countries that manufacture 2012 cars, 4 Likes |

@ siena- By the way, all BMW 6-cylinders are in-line sixes. No V6 models were ever built, and won't be, in the foreseeable future. Now, I know U know ur biz. So,I'm not inclined to argue. but I will be Posting pix pretty shortly of what I regard as evidence that non Inline six engines were made by BMW. Watch Dis Space. |

am a fan of benz, infact i dnt think their is any bigger fan of benz than me, but i have a friend who is a bmw fan, most times we find it hard reaching a conclusion on which is the best car bmw or a benz, can anyone answer that question with clear terms, i mean expert explainations in term of both cars pickup i.e 0-100 in ow many sec etc, stability wise, also i want an suv but would prefer if its a benz, but my fear is the fuel consumption, is ML as good as any japanese suv and could anyone tellme the advantages ML has over the japanese SUV in terms of performance and what are the major problems an ML always have, matogundipe1@yahoo.com |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Nobody: 9:50pm On Oct 03, 2010 |
Would be best if you asked your questions one at a time, Muhydeen. For instance, 0-100km/h comparisons are only valid, if you take two comparable models. You wouldn't pit a BMW 316 E46 against a Mercedes Benz E320, would you? Pick two models you wish to compare, and I'll try my best to help. Other questions can be covered later. |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash: 7:12am On Oct 04, 2010 |
@ muhydeen, BMW is cool, but Benz all the way! you can confirm from our papas, that bought and used the old regular Benz. some of them still drive it till date, good, strong, reliable! I am sure their cars are somewhat designed to last for years, |

@ Siena et al, Last week, I did changed my transmission fluid cos the colour was different from how it should be (red-like I think) it was really dark. so the filter and the oil was changed, I used Harco transmission fluid (they say its one of the best), its been fine since I changed it, and the mechanic notice a vacuum hose that was removed from the gear box and fixed it back- That corrected the hard jerk when gear is engaged either in reverse or drive. but this morning I noticed the gear only stayed on 2nd and didnt change further, but as the engine temp got to around 50 degrees C. , it started working fine, pls what could be the issue? I dont think its normal. pls kindly advice, |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Nobody: 7:29am On Oct 05, 2010 |
There are two issues here, Kuntash - quantity and grade. Seeing as the gear selection and changes were fine prior to the fluid flush, I'd look at the level, and grade. The fact some fluids are the best in the market, don't make them suitable for all transmissions. Check the composition, against that recommended by Mercedes Benz. Also, it's possible you have an air lock within the transmission (bubbles in the fluid). Some cars require you to "cycle" the new fluid sever times. This is done by adding the fluid, and with the rear wheels free of the ground, the selector is run through all the gears for 5 seconds each, including reverse. This will require the fill plug to be left off. Each time you cycle the tranny, add fluid to the transmission till it runs out. This will remove any trapped air. This procedure is specific to Audi, Volkswagen and BMW, so may apply to your Mercedes too. |

Siena,i need your help urgent.I am considering buying one of these cars soon.Benz 2001 C class C240 and Toyota Avalon xls 2001.I want to know in terms of luxury, maintenace, fuel consumption and advantages and disadvantages of the 2 cars.Thanks. |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash: 1:25pm On Oct 05, 2010 |
thanks Siena, I pray its not the bubble issue, I read the car docs and its stated the tranny takes 7.5 ltrs, but I think I poured a little less than 7litres cos the mechanic was telling me its ok, I actually bought 8 of 0.9ltrs pack of the fluid, so I would pour in the last one and update you 2morrow. @ atasha, are u an auto sound guru? are the four speakers on the doors and the two @ the rear enough to make the car sound " gbam gbam didi " ? even without an amp?, pls advice |
Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash: 6:40pm On Oct 06, 2010 |
@ Siena, I added more fluid to the transmission before driving home ystdy, there was no error same thing this morning, it shifted well, thanks, even though u dont like automatic tranny lol |

tedanne: Car dealers wont allow room for discussions - sharing of ideas etc on this auto thread, JUST buy, buy, buy , after u buy what happenz? Tedanne, while not go for the W202, I dont think it would drain ur purse, perhaps more economical than some Japanese. |

Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by kuntash: 4:15pm On Oct 07, 2010 |
^^ exactly, dats it, do ur servicing regularly and normal maintenance , and try avoid the following. - try as much as u can not to allow Okada or Danfo damage ur front Bumper, I heard its goes for as much as 35k, I dont knw why - same with side mirrors, and pointers, aside those three things, others are very cheap, (side mirrors 12-15k for both, pointers- 5-6k for both) suspension (shocks ball joint etc , are like kobo kobo, ) - fuel economy avearge 22miles per gallon or more, all d best! 2 Likes |
