“One aeroplane in Nigeria is equal to 300 direct jobs to start with." Buhari and his clueless people.. The airplane is not made in Nigeria, it would not be serviced in Nigeria, so how would one airplane produce 300 direct jobs? 4Pilots , 10 crew members and let's be generous and give him, another 30 support people, we are still not at 50 so where did he get 300 from? 1 Like |

AZeD1:Arik air as an example has less than 20 functional planes but employs over 1500 direct staff. When you factor in the indirect staff, and the indirect-indirect staff (e.g. those urchins at the airport stand that rush to help you with your bags when you get to airports, the caterers that prepare the snacks you get on flights etc), you will be shocked at the sheer number of mouths that are being fed by the mere existence of Arik air. Sometimes people ought to exercise restraint in the way they rush to insult people because more often than not, you may just risk sounding more clueless than the people you insult. 2 Likes |

olujastro:Thunder fire u Victim mentality kill you there. Idiot So we shouldn't complain about how the fg of Nigeria is anti east. Ever since the civil war the rest of nigeria has been anti east. The south east has the least federal government presence in Nigerian. We are just lucky that we are enterprising in nature and have do or die spirit. Unlike in the north and other parts of this shithole; in east some roads and most projects are funded by state governments and individuals U black idiots see nothing wrong in injustice provided you're not the one at the receiving end. Shey soon u go begin flex railway from lagos to ibadan. Likewise northerners By now igboland deserve a nearby functional seaport. Lagos is been overused and overcrowded We deserve sharp rail transportation from Enugu to Onitsha. Or anywhere else in the east The stupid sirika probably doesn't give a f"ck about enugu airport and would be glad to see it shutdown for years without doing anything about it I wonder when its now a crime to demand secession from a shithole. You say we are landlocked and erosion ravaged. No problem stop hindering our disintegration let us leave your country and stop giving your country negative image on youtube. Nigeria is hindering the igbo nations progress We were doing better in Biafra despite the war and we will obviously still do better without Nigeria 9 Likes 1 Share |

obailala:How efficient is Arik? Are those urchins supposed to be there? How many airlines have died in Nigeria because of mismanagement? Nobody starts a business to create jobs, people start business to make profits. The jobs created are a side effect. For a country that spends over 70% of its budget on recurrent expenditure, no government official should be talking of starting a new venture unless it's profitable. PS: you do know Arik was taken over by AMCON right? PS: Have you asked yourself why this same minister went to Bahrain just to design a freaking logo? How come he didn't think of jobs it would create in Nigeria? 3 Likes |

Shame on him to report failure on his part. Who's responsibility was it to oversee our aviation. If you could not get the necessary approval to fix it why didn't you resign. These people are bereft of ideas to generate funds for a commercially driven venture they are just there answering minister for no thing. I thought such a character should have been shown the way out after wasting tax payers money for a mere wild elephant dream the Air Nigeria. A thoughtless project. A man who doesn't think through projects is not fit to be a minister., ...but isn't their boss worse. A blind man leading the blind. 1 Like |

olujastro:Closing for rehabilitating is different from permanent closure. He was insinuating a permanent closure. Of course every airport requires maintenance work once in a while but where is the contract for repair works? It's his job to seek repair but he was busy asking for a total and permanent closure. 2 Likes 1 Share |

AZeD1:Do you realise you're actually veering totally off point?... This is what happens when people just speak/nag out of emotions and prejudices. A quick reminder to what my comment was about... the man said a single aeroplane in the aviation sector can translate to up to 300 jobs and he is totally right about that; end of discussion! Whether AMCON owns Arik or Arik owns AMCON, or whether the man failed in a attempt to start an airline, or whether urchins should be at airports or not, all that is totally irrelevant to the correctness of his statement that a single aircraft can create employment for up to 300 persons, both directly and indirectly. Regarding the launch of a national carrier, I read in that statement that the plan is for it to be totally driven by the private sector; and that is a very very good idea whether you agree or not. The previous plan where govt was to have substantial stakes was shelved, that explains the current suspension of the Nigeria Air idea. Finally you said the essence of business is to make profit, not to create employment. May I remind you that the person being screened was being interviewed for a govt position. Just in case you do not know, or have forgotten, it is the business of government to care about whether people are employed or not. |

gnykelly:Looks like you forget so easily. It was under Jonathan that the airport was upgraded to international status. It was under him that international flights started operation. It was under him that the first runway refurbishment was done It was under him that the international terminal building was commenced and is up to 80% completion. Guess what, not a single block has been laid on that terminal since Buhari came to power 4 Likes 1 Share |

Anytime I'm in an aircraft taking off at that airport,, the repeated bumping sound of gbu gbu gbu gbu gnu on from the types is so scary you think it could flip the aircraft sideways. But why is the aviation minister saying this now.Was he not junior aviation minister for 4 long years ?? How long does it take a serious minister or govt to fix potholes on a runway. For crying out loud, Okowa did not just fix runway potholes but he extended the length of the Asaba airport within his first year in office, now the airport can safely land bigger aircraft |
