Onlytruth you make me laugh with your stances at times |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Onlytruth(m): 6:55pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
asha 80: There is nothing funny in my stance. If you have contrary view, why not write them out for us to appraise? Why can't folks comment without insults? I said that Ohanaeze's endorsement is not illogical because I have not seen sincerity on the side of the north on zoning. What is your view? |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Kobojunkie: 6:57pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Onlytruth: Is it even possible to have a contrary view when you change stations more than most people change socks . . . ROFLMAO!!! |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Onlytruth(m): 6:59pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Kobojunkie: If you notice I have been ignoring you because you are goofy as always. A day in politics is a millennium in real life. So, head back to school of politics. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by asha80(m): 7:01pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Onlytruth: what made you think that the ibb you were supporting not so long ago was sincere on zoning in the first instance? |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Kobojunkie: 7:01pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Onlytruth: Look whose going to now lecture me about politics. Dude, you are the one with the goofy approach to politics . . Don't give yourself a serious case of WhipLash there . . and I am supposed to believe you speak for Ibos? What a crock of bull . . . ROFLMAO!! |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Onlytruth(m): 7:07pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
@Topic, This endorsement should not surprise any student of politics in Nigeria. When this issue of zoning was first discussed (under Abacha, then Adusalami), the north wanted zoning to be between north and south, while south east and south south argued strongly for zoning along geopolitical lines. The north had their way because they were in control of government. However, the situation today has vindicated the earlier position of south east and south south. If you read between the lines, you would notice that if the north had their way, no Igbo man would ever see Aso rock, because they would support a southerner that is not Igbo. Who is fooling who. Power should rotate along geopolitical lines. If the north agreed to that before, we won't have the current "problem" to deal with. That is the underlying position of Ohanaeze. |

asha 80: You really expect me to answer this? Nna na wa o! |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by asha80(m): 7:19pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Onlytruth: if you cannot answer it then it means you did not even know what you were doing then and you simply have no answer to what i just asked.do not just pretend not supporting ibb before because i will simply dig out your former posts. Onlytruth: did you need ohaneze to do what they did before you as a person knew all you wrote above?when you were supporting ibb then you did not know then?was it because of the Ojukwu 'endoresment' of ibb which was more like Mbakwe's 'endoresment' of abacha's ambition then? |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Afam4eva(m): 7:21pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
I'm really not a fan of this Goodluck guy but i'm tempted to support him instead of supporting the likes of IBB, ATIKU and co. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Onlytruth(m): 7:30pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
asha 80: Dude, okay here it is again. Onlytruth: This should be a no-brainer really. It is like the ABCD of politics. I'm beginning to think that folks here are kids. Events are unfolding DAILY. If Jonathan wakes up tomorrow to show signs that he would cheat Ndigbo, do you think I would continue this support? Frankly, I'm beginning to see why some people are saying that nairaland is full of clueless kids. If you pull my comments and find one message, that message will likely be that I support ANYONE that will (verifiably) defend the interest of Ndigbo. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by excanny: 7:32pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Like i always say, GJ is not the best that can lead this country. But the fact is he still comes clear cut than the rest and a lot of things are in his favour. Who do i vote for? I just cant imagine Saraki and the rest. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by maimalari: 7:33pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Ohaneze ndigbo is a socio-cultural organisation with less than 5000 persons as members. "This issue of northern forum endorse, ohaneze ndigbo endorse, oduduwa association endorse" is all nonsense, these social clubs are not the populace. All these presidential aspirants should tell us what they can offer, and they should also tell us how(practically) they intend achieving the offer within budget. They should stop wasting their money on these social clubs. They should meet with the masses who are the majority of the electorate, "OR MAY BE OUR VOTE WON'T COUNT". |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by asha80(m): 7:41pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
Onlytruth: Forget this ABCD talk of politics.I do not support jonathan( i do not even believe in nigeria as presently structured ).However whether Jonathan shows sign of cheating igbos or not our history should tell you that the last person you will trust when it comes to power issues as an igbo person is the northerner in the mold of ibb.You seem to not know or have forgotten the way they see igbos on power issues. It was not even as if they have ever showed signs of any change whatsoever for you to even start contemplating ibb handing over to the igbo person in 2001.That is laughable. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by peacesak: 7:46pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
I am torn between GEJ and Ribadu. Surely any sensible person should vote one of them but i will just give GEJ the edge because while he may not be the best candidate pound for pound, he seem to be the best at this particular time. We need a transition bridge from the past to the future and GEJ will readily provide that platform. Gej is the present and Ribadu is the future. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Kobojunkie: 7:52pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
peacesak: Are you certain of that? Are you certain that any sensible person with, after 12 year so PDP failure, choose to throw his vote to the same lot that produced the abysmal failure we claim in our system today, simply because another politician in that park, with barely any track record of accomplishments, says he is going to change things magically? Are you certain that any sensible Nigerian will at this point help to usher in another year of corruption and more of the same? Are you sure Any sensible Nigerian will sit back and demand we have another 4 years of being lead by the corrupt thieves that have lead us for years? |

@Onlytruth, i've read your feeble attempts to justify your capricious change in ideology and i believe it is at best pathetic. To say the least i believe those that have spent time arguing with u on this forum trying to get you to see reason and switch sides all this time deserve much better an excuse for your sudden whim. What would it take to admit you got it wrong and move on? What silly pride u've got! And to turn around and say NL is full of 'clueless kids' when it is you dat has clearly displayed the attributes of a political nymph in failing to see what others saw ages back is nothing but an indictment of your proud self. As much as i'm glad u've turned around to see sense, the thought that all these has been about pride to you is sickening to me. Please get a life! @ kobo, very good of you to identify the problems, so what solution do you proffer? |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by Kobojunkie: 8:34pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
I think the solution has been apparent since 2007. . . we need to lessen PDP power in that country and we can start by voting out PDP at the presidential level, then remove as many of them from the NASS as we can, then from state and we can get some things moving. Matter of fact, I would like to see many of those criminals behind bars as soon as they are voted out. |

^^^ if dats your plan then i'm sorry its not qualified 2 be called a plan. U cant start from the top wen u've got no foundation, the pdp is entrenched in ngr and 2 have chance u've got to fashion out a bottom up process if u want to start now, goodluck 2 u. The pdp is the key to nigerias presidency. the only other thing that wld matter would be power(incumbency), and they've got both! Dats y Ribadu, Utomi and whoever u're fantasizing abt stands no chance. |

wesley80: To further disappoint you and your sidekick (Kobo), I would still change position tomorrow if events change! lmao. You have to live with my Nigerian history molded whims. Another lesson you should learn is that pride and politics don't mix. That is why I insist most of you guys are kids. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by wesley80(m): 10:27pm On Oct 16, 2010 |
^^^ Now i see why you're such a die hard fan of IBB. You'd be better of sticking with him. I'm sure he needs guys like you with absolutely no shred of morals or pride to prick your conscience. And you come here pretending to be a puritan. |

I support any candidate that would ensure an Igbo man becomes president in the shortest time possible. Call me whatever you want. I don't share views with you. Learn to live with it! |

wesley80: Whatever cooks your soup dude! @Topic I personally noticed that this Ohanaeze endorsement did not go down well with certain folks. . One of them glibly quipped "kini big deal". C'mon guys, don't commit suicide. As for me, any arrangement that brings federal presence (including presidency) to the East is good enough for me. Everything else takes the back seat until we (south south/East) have enjoyed 16 years of presidential power. Now dodge! here they come! rotfl! |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by ChinenyeN(m): 3:48am On Oct 17, 2010 |
chyz:Honestly, I see reason to take such a story into consideration. Some time ago, I had a discussion with some Igbo about Ohanaeze and we generally came to a consensus that Ohanaeze seems to be gradually asserting itself into the political domain, which is something that none of us agreed with. Then came the news about the organization having announced plans to endorse a particular candidate. That did it for us. Me, in particular, I've never really taken much of a shine to Ohanaeze, so I'm not all that disappointed, but I am surprised. Thankfully though, the Igbo Students Association was smart enough to call them on that announcement, but I was very doubtful that Ohanaeze paid them much attention. Then came this article, confirming those doubts. Well, whether or not this article is true, it just goes to show how aware people are about how far Ohanaeze seems to be stretching itself. |

wesley80:How true is this statement? Can anyone vouch for this? Because if true, this politics issue is more problematic than I thought. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by houvest: 4:23am On Oct 17, 2010 |
Those qaurelling with Onlytruth should realize that in politics there should be only permanent interests not permanent friends or enemies. So I in as much as I do not agree with many of his views but I have not seen him change his interest from protection of Igbo interests through whichever candidate than can ensure it most. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by houvest: 5:00am On Oct 17, 2010 |
First of all historically, Ohaneze has never, to my knowledge endorsed any candidate above others as they have always acted as an umbrella for all Igbos and Igbo friends that are running so the veracity of this report needs to be ascertained. If however it is true, it means that they are emerging from the cocoon of a laidback leadership to a more assertive one. Part of me prefers the old order lest they commit themselves to a loser but the other part says, WTH, Principles should come first even if you lose but I know that in Nigerian politics the principled guy most times is seen as the fool so why not let an umbrella socio-cultural body remain neutral while politicians and political groups keep playing the partisan card. Time will tell on what is the best approach. Secondly the reasons given for coming out on GEJ's side are consistent with Ohaneze's stand over the years for a president of SE extraction modified later to SE and SS to balance the power sharing equation in the Nation and the position they canvassed at Abacha's constitutional conference for power rotation along geopolitical lines not between North and South. The fact that PDP came to adopt the Northern view in their constitution should not make Ohaneze jettison their stance. Thirdly Ohaneze on their website as far back as when GEJ was the VP mentioned his name among the list of Igbos for special mention ie they saw him as Igbo. But for me the best candidate and an even better Igbo representation in the race is PU but I doubt if he has the political sagacity to beat an incumbent GEJ or deadly IBB or slimy Atiku or bullish Buhari but I think his time will come. For now GEJ who is more like the one eyed man in the land of the blind presidential runners in PDP. I have no doubt in my mind that GEJ will sweep Igbo votes. It is only some Igbo elite, politicians and generally the older generation that associate GEJ with bitter past experiences of Ijaw subterfuge personified in Clark and hasty verdicts of inept performance. The youths and the common man on the street in Igboland will root for Ebele Azikiwe more than a certain Ribadu or Babangida ,etc. Igbo votes are Jonathan's to lose. Granted votes will be shared in each zone by all candidates but I am talking of the majority votes. GEJ is gradually developing in political sagacity and politese ( If there is any word like that) and will only lose Igbo votes if he commits very serious blunders against Ndigbo in this run up to the polls. His body language so far despite his few missteps does not show one with the disposition of committing an october faux pa ( as the Americans will say ) against Ndigbo. His youth, electronic and other 21st cy approaches to politics and governance portray him as being intellectually savvy lending him to easy kinship with the youths and young at heart and also his story of grass to grace when linked to his name adds an element of sentimentality and myth slightly comparable to the Obama myth that draws sympathy and goodwill from the neutral, unencumbered, uncensored, uninitiated and unprejudiced. If these positive capitals can be cashed at the polls barring voter apathy especially among the youths, the windfall will purchase a shocking electoral landslide in Igboland and beyond, assuming that franchise is upheld to the letter. This endorsement if true will add to that momentum. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by chyz(m): 5:10am On Oct 17, 2010 |
ChinenyeN: I think they are on a mission to resurrect the Igbo State Union but of course under the name Ohanaeze. Which isn't a bad Idea if handled right. The Igbo State Union was one of the most feared political/socio-cultural organizations in Nigeria. We are at a time where Igbo so-called "leaders" are selling us out for their own interest which is Presidency. To me, Igbos don't need to be focusing on presidency, it is not important at the moment. They need to be focusing on unity such as banding connecting igbo businesses together economically, building a strong political front for the Igbo, protection of all means for the Igbo ,in every part of Nigeria physical protection(arms) and Legal protection, et al. It seems that Ohanaeze is on that path. If they did endorse him it would have been out of Igbo interest and not out of the desperate need of an Igbo president. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by AndreUweh(m): 12:04pm On Oct 17, 2010 |
chyz:The Igbo state Union is not dead, it is this same Ohanaeze you hear everyday. Igbo state union was banned by Ironsi regime as well as other cultural associations. But in 1970, Dennis Osadebe and others regrouped and renamed the association Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo. Oha (Igbo people)--represented by Uwaechue. Ndieze (the Kings) represented by Obi Chike Edozien. It is similar to British model of House of the lords and house of the commons. I do remember ASUU when banned resurfaces as AASU OR ASU etc. |
Re: 2011: Ohanaeze Backs Jonathan by marcdunu: 12:13pm On Oct 17, 2010 |
South East is badly in need of an Alex Samond of the Scotish National Party Someone who know what they are doing who will promote Igbo agenda through democracy and politics not violence. Someone who can transform the aspiration of Ndigbo into achievable targets like liaising with the Minister For Commerce and Industry to introduce business policies that will safeguard all Nigerians doing business in any part of Nigeria and prevent this culture of bigoted Governors maltreating traders without compensation in the name of regeneration. Create agencies where Businessmen can go ask questions about the position of the law on their plans on development or expansion of their business. Not peoples livelishoods being destroyed later merely because Business owners were ignorant of the law. |
