It calls for worries when a State Governor measures the socio-economic value of his indigenes for as much as a litre of kerosene. It is a clear indication the level of extreme poverty in the region in perspective. Not only should the UK Parliament deliberate on the worst case scenario but an emergency call for UN's intervention would also suffice admist the prevailing poverty indices that could get worse pretty shortly in the region.
It is rather imagined how poverty looks pretty nicely on them like isi agu, in as much as they pretend and lie to themselves as though all is well.

under buhari nigeria now owe its highest foreign debt in history. when goodluck left it was $3billion under buhari its now $16billion.
I don't know how you come about with your statistics from China, when goodluck came to power how much was in our foreign reserves and excess crude account and how much he left after been booted out of office, he refused to add single kobo to the foreign reserves and succeeded in squandering the excess crude account, despite selling crude oil at its highest peak.

If this might interest you borrowing started as soon as the price of crude oil started dwindling, when pmb assume leadership crude oil was sold for $28 per barrel and the cost of producing one barrel is $27, at that Nigeria was making absolutely nothing in oil, until the price started rising again, Saudi who has never borrowed had to result to borrowing to meet up with their financial obligations....

Nigerians are mentally lazy.

All of us. Starting from the man who said, " Nigerian youths are lazy ". Is he not a salary earner ?

Nobody is innovative.

Give a Nigerian small money, he will seek more and will never work again. We all feel like sitting down and signing cheques while we spend public funds.
how can one be innovative when government policies is strangling businesses, operating in Nigeria is like operating in a jungle. Infact when you go to other countries you will realize that Nigerians are trying.....business environment is zero, economic policies -zero.who will risk his money investing in innovations now, even to get a financier to raise 50m on a long term project na war.... Abeg leave Nigeria matter.

You have only succeeded in typing rubbish and exposing your ignorant stupid self the more. Sometimes, it is better to pretend to be intelligent by keeping quiet than talking and appearing foolish. Now let me ask you, what happens to the saying; "drastic situations calls for drastic actions" ?
A governor took a drastic action to relieve his people of the burden and evil your of lack of petroleum products by bringing it close to their doorsteps even though it has a party coloration and you're here foaming in the mouth and measuring a whole region with that and tagging them with poverty. Btw, what has the evil gov't of buhari which you exchanged your conscience with a plate of amala for, done to help your region if not to RUGA it and your generations unborn?
You need a total new brain in other to think normal.

So through! She was born in 1980= 38-39yrs ago, studied in Nigeria until age 16yrs then left for uk, in the mid 1990's. Now things are even worse, with Nigeria breaking her record of ASSUU Strike back to back in the 2000's and early 2010-2014. Power problems are becoming resistant to all solution (anyway we are hoping for the success of the new independent off grid power supply the the universities,as it will enhance research and learning).
Civil service is the latest and shortest route out of poverty and not technology and entrepreneurship, this slows creativity and innovative skills/critical thinking.
Security is almost at all time low since the civil war, with armed robbery and kidnapping/banditry the biggest cash cow for young boys and girls. Not forgetting the bokoharam menace which peaked in 2014-16 with bomb blasts in Jos,Kaduna, abuja, kano,Maiduguri, yobe...to name a few.
Preventable diseases are still killing people in numbers from plasmodiasis, salmonelliasis, hepatitis, malnutrition, cholera, lassa fever,.... to name a few.
Infrastructural decay associated with poor maintenance culture with "I don't care " attitude of the average Nigerian and Nigeria government is not helping matters.
Economy and commerce is now the laughing stock of the continent with successive government failing to invest enough on basic infrastructure to expand the economy, due to the kleptomaniac ability of those in power, then/now(leading to recession and stringent economic policies)
Preventive medicine/public health are at all time low except for the fight on HIV/AIDS but the steam is slowing down,as Nigeria government have taken 60-70% ownership of the program.
Education is now a luxury and prevailedge not a right. Infrastructure are poor for learning and research with 'certified non innovative" lecturers.
Unemployment...hmm,It's now a scourge!
Nigeria needs primary and simple solutions to solve her problems not the long apostle of "policy documents/roadmaps which lead to nowhere.
Education! free and accessible to all from primary and secondary schools but paid in tertiary institutions, create universities for specific fields (not universities of agriculture offering medicine and surgery) and allowed expert administrators man the institutions. Create infrastructure conducive for learning and research, allow technology and knowledge transfer by bringing in seasoned experts from abroad.
Promotion to lecturers must be best on breakthrough in their fields of specialty and research.
Healthcare. Headship of hospitals must go back to the hospital administrators (those who study hospital administration) not doctors. Doctors should head the clinical teams.

Nigeria is a backward and poor country from time immemorial, even before the British came. We have never created any wealth for us to think of enjoying wealth. The wealthy countries you see today started creating their wealth more than 300 years ago. This was the reason the wealthy European countries colonized much of the world during the early days of their development. The proceeds from colonisation were what they used to finance major technological advances which led to more wealth creation. No country the size of Nigeria can become wealthy without the ability to create wealth through the power of science and technology. In the early years of our independence, our leaders focused too much on politics than development,in addition to the fact that the Europeans and Americans did not really wanted us to develop in order to legitimize their racist convictions that black people are incapable of modernity. And this was the time the East Asians started their economic development by becoming the world manufacturing hubs. Today, the sacrifices of the Chinese, Koreans, Singaporeans, and Taiwanese have paid off by having some of the world's largest multinational corporations in electronics. When you think of electronic you think of East Asians with global behemoths like Samsung, LG, Hiense, TCL, Panasonic, Sony, Cannon, Acer, HTC, Haier, Skyworth, etc. These multinational corporations generate billion of dollars in revenues in addition to creating million of jobs. They take the front seat in scientific and technological innovations with billions of dollars worth of R and D centres in addition to supporting innovation and research in Universities. While in Nigeria, especially with the discovery of oil, we began to build our economy around oil,an extractive industry the technology of which we don't have to actually take control of it.Our leaders were too naive to realize early on that extractive industry does not generate enough employment. For example, oil gives Nigerian government about 80 percent of its revenue but generates less than 2 percent of the total Employment. When we compare this with the Chinese economy, it becomes obvious that building economy around extractive industry especially by a populous country like Nigeria is unwise. The manufacturing sector in China accounts for 45 percent of the economy but generates the highest rate of jobs. Manufacturing generates jobs and lays a sound foundation for technological development. But if any of you think that Nigeria is going be rich with oil only, such a person will need to have a rethink. The problem we have now is that we have created so lazy, corrupt, unreasonable and uneducated population to start any meaningful development. Our political leaders are busy dividing us for their selfish interests without us trying to study to know why Nigeria is poor and backward. Nigeria will continue to slide into poverty because we don't have the means to create enough wealth for our people. Wealth creation is communative. We are suffering today because those who lived before us did not create any wealth the same way those coming after us are more likely to suffer because right now we are not creating any wealth. Heineken, a Dutch company, began as a family business more than 150 years ago and today it is a multinational corporations spanning four generations. Our problem is our inability to create wealth. If you sucribe to the naive argument often made by politicians that Buhari government has made Nigeria poor, you are only allowing yourself to be brainwashed.Nigeria has always been a poor country and will continue to be poor simply because we don't have the means to create wealth. I don't think any government can make Nigeria rich in the next 250 years even with the best of intentions. Five or six generations will have to be sacrificed, and of course, this is what we are incapable of doing. But we will keep on hating whoever that occupies Aso Rock, especially if he is not from our tribe no matter what he does to move the country forward.
