In a bid to reposition the five unity schools and four special schools in Ondo state for better academic performance the state ministry of Education has embarked on a regular meeting with the heads of the schools

The meeting according to the Commissioner for Education Mr Femi Agagu is an avenue for the school heads to discuss with government the various challenges facing them in order to proffer solutions

Addressing the Principals of the five unity schools , the commissioner said the schools were established to serve as models to other secondary schools in the state and therefore should maintain the status.

Agagu who took time to listen to the principals one after the other while highlighting their challenges charged them to be responsive in the discharge of their duties and monitor the teachers and students under them to ensure better academic performance

Speaking on the security of the schools the commissioner urged the principals to be more proactive noting that security guards must be on the alert both day and night.

In his response, the principal of unity secondary school Epinmi Akoko Mr Oyedeji Adegbenro said despite the various challenges facing them, the principals efforts are yielding good results.

According to him, beside improvement in internal examinations , the last West Africa Senor School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results where the students performed excellently well is a testimony of the principals’ efficiency and government commitment to the education sector

In a meeting with the heads of the Special schools, the commissioner told them that the government is deeply concerned about the interest and the welfare of the special Students

He admonished the Head teachers to always look for what to do to make the students relevant in the society adding that there is ability in disability

Speaking on behalf of the headteachers Mrs Tolani Olaitan of special school Akure said efforts were being made by the headteachers to discover the talents of each student in a view to making them useful to themselves , their families and the society .

The meeting which was held in succession had the principals of unity secondary school Epinmi Akoko, St John’s Mary unity secondary school Owo, St Peter’s unity secondary school, Akure, St Helen’s unity secondary school Ondo and that of Unity secondary school Ode Aye as first batch.

While the meeting with special schools had the headteachers of physically challenged Ikare Akoko, visually impaired Owo, , Hearing impaired Akure and mentally impaired okeigbo and Director of schools Ministry of Education in attendance.
