THIS IS WHAT MOST PREACHERS WON’T TELL YOU WHENEVER THEY PREACH ABOUT THE PRODIGAL SON

I have heard so many messages preached on the altar about the prodigal son (Luke 5:11-32)

As I took out time to read the story in my bible, I saw some things that boosted my curiosity and left me with a serious concern…

My concern is that whenever we use the story of the prodigal son to spice up our sermons on the altar, the emphasis and focus is always centered on the prodigal son himself…

I am seriously worried that we have spent so much time analyzing his errors that we have become blinded to the errors of another major character (individual) in the same story…

I am talking about his elder brother here…

As I look at the church today, I see a lot of Christians who fit into the description of the elder brother of the prodigal son…

They appear zealous, holy and committed but when you take a closer look at their lives, you’ll begin to spot similar errors…

Please I have just four (4) questions for the elder brother of the prodigal son…

Any where you see him, please help me ask him these four (4) questions:

1. Where were you, when your younger brother was making the terrible decision he made?

2. How come you never made any attempt to go look for your younger brother to know how he was coping after he left the house?

3. Why were you angry and bitter that he returned and that his return was celebrated?

4. Why were you giving your father reasons why he shouldn’t have celebrated the return of your brother?

A Christianity where the errors and fall of a fellow comrade becomes an opportunity to rise is demonic…

A Christianity where we try to gain favor and prove loyalty before authority by discrediting or running down a fellow brother is satanic…

A Christianity where we neglect and abandon our wounded brothers is demonic…

A Christianity where the strong does not uphold the weak is satanic…

A Christianity where the fall of a fellow brother/sister becomes a topic for gossips and discussions is evil…

A Christianity where we prefer rather to discus about the weakness of a fellow comrade behind him/her than to approach and correct him/her in love is evil…

A Christianity where we pray for a fellow brother/sister to err or fall so we can occupy his/her position is barbaric…

If you see Generational Impact smoking cigarette on the street after he has preached on facebook, will you reach out to him in love and intercede on his behalf…?

If the fall of a fellow comrade does not touch and compel you to intercede on his behalf, then you are still far from God…

Enough of the hate in church…

Enough of plotting against each other…

Enough of analyzing and amplifying each other’s weakness…

We will do greater exploit as a team and as a unified body…

I am not your enemy, the devil is…. My fall should not bring joy to you…

Let us uphold each other and show love to the wounded in our midst

Dis story was recently shared by our Parish Priest and dis was d exact fact he pointed out... D Elder brother is akin to our today Christians who are selfish ans self righteous hypocrites who are only interested in demselves and are no different from hypocritic Pharisees.. They wouldn't lift a finger to help their fellow Christians but would b d first to critici

Well said OP.

And another revelation I got was that the original version of the bible that I personally recognize (KJV, and even most versions) do not refer to him as the PRODIGAL son. He is referred to as the LOST son. Calling him a 'prodigal son' focuses only on his spendthrift attitude to collect his inheritance prematurely and waste it, but the actual written name in the Bible (the Lost son) is from an empathetic perspective of a young man who seemed to not be thinking right, blinded by the desire for 'freedom' and material things, but will soon realise (hopefully not too late) that path only leads to destruction.

Till today, we choose to refer to him as the prodigal son as therein lies our judgmental attitude as Christians of today as we think we are better if all we do is just tell a little lie, change a little figure at our workplace, so far we are not demanding our inheritance from our Father prematurely. The major point of the story was being lost, and being found. Anyone that is not joyful at such result (and that includes the elder brother in the story) may have a worse fate in eternity.

Also of interest is the fact that many of us like the elder brother, serve God but don't know our rights or redemptive privileges, and so complain about that returning brother or sinner who God blessed speedily.
