WE'LL SHUT DOWN NIGERIA: “There is no going back on the strike. We are going to shut down everything, including the airspace. What can stop the strike is if President Goodluck Jonathan immediately sends the draft bill on the minimum wage agreement to the National Assembly to be passed into a law.” - The NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS (NLC) said, as it vowed to shut down the country with effect from 12 midnight on Tuesday. |

Abdulwaleed Omar should stop making noise and do what is necessary. The future of Labour Movement in Nigeria is to sponsor individuals as lawmakers who will be loyal to the aspirations of working people into the NASS. 2011 is around the corner NLC should sponsor folks through the Labour Party to run for Senate and House of Reps. That way instead of making endless noise on the streets about improving workers wages they can actually introduce bills in the NASS and fight to push it through. The answer to the aspirations of working people is not endless strike and noise making alone, they need to combine it with strategic political activities and choices. NLC, TUC and Journalists should move into the Labour Party and send a strong message to the political class. |
