Really nice of you. There are people like me who learn it up to window functions but never use it in daily tasks so we keep learning it over and over again after a few months. I really hope to address this. cochtrane: |

Hinokami: Some of those advanced SQL stuff like stored procedures, functions, views are mostly automated on company's databases so you might find yourself not using them: speaking from experience here. I wouldn't stress myself if I were you. As long as you don't use it day to day, you are bound to forget though I understand knowledge of it helps in improving expertise. 1 Like |

SparkleSix: Hello Brother, I am so sorry this is coming late. This project of yours is very interesting to start with. Things you need to note about ML is the fact that any model you are building needs a lot of data in order to give you a prediction of high accuracy. Working with just few data will likely make a model not intelligent enough and also make it confused as well. It is therefore necessary to get a huge amount of data on breast cancer in order to get the best from your model. Do note, that data being used should be thoroughly cleaned. Poor quality of data doesn't help a model in anyway. It is therefore necessary for you to know how to clean, manipulate, normalize and obtaining important Features that will help your model learn very well about your data. Also, you mentioned training and testing data: yes, they are needed by your Model for training it as well as testing it. It helps process your model in order to understand your data perfectly well. A high amount of your data should be used for training your Model (80% i.e train_size=0. change that emoji to eight(Nairaland wahala), while the rest (20% i.e test_size=0.2) should be used for testing. Find the best model among the many models you're using. A higher accuracy score or a high mean_absolute_error value can help you determine the best models. Learn to save your model using Pickle. For the Web based version, streamlit is specifically meant for this. Learn about it's various functions and your work is 100%. All the best. 5 Likes |

Hello everyone. I have some thoughts that have been bothering me. This thread was the starting point for my Data Analysis journey and I've tried to follow the recommendations listed here. I've been learning Excel, Power BI, SQL, and Python. To be honest, I haven't been paying attention to creating dashboards. My main focus have learning how to manipulate formulas (especially DAX) and other technicalities involved. But recently, I joined some tech communities on Twitter and I see a lot of people creating beautiful dashboards. I hardly see anyone talk about about their SQL or Python projects. I'm quite confused. Is there something I'm missing? (Note: I'm yet to successfully land a job) |

AnthCunny: Think of it like making Jollof The data cleaning is like identifying the ingredients needed to make jollof The SQL is to get the exact ingredients needed for the Jollof in the right quantity The python programming, Excel manipulation, DAX in BI...are all the different methods used in prepping the Jollof to taste based on specific requirements The dashboard is the final plate of Jollof with Chicken and Juice that is served on the table. So, yeah, more emphasis is placed on the already prepared Jollof... but that doesn't sidestep the processes involved in turning raw foodstuff to edible Jollof. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Chronicle Of A Data Scientist/analyst by KlausMichaelson: 8:33pm On Aug 20, 2022 |
AnthCunny: What I have noticed about Nigerian data analysts (mainly the show-offs) is that they all think data analysis is all about creating dashboards(visuals) as though they are graphic designers. And I can bet it that they didn't really do much of any cleaning and wrangling of data, otherwise they will show that part as well: trust Nigerians. I don't see Whites post things like dashboards. To them, it's just a normal thing. The 70-80% of an analyst job is spent more on cleaning and preparing the data. This is where the knowledgeable of SQL, DAX, Pandas, Excel Functions comes in. Simply put, Nigerian Data analysts are more of graphic designers while the white counterpart are much more than that: they are just like the scientists of the data itself. Your dashboards doesn't really tickle their fancy. Follow them, you will understand that Data analysis has a long way to go in Nigeria. Ps: I may be wrong, but that's my opinion. 11 Likes |

KlausMichaelson: Very true too. I also feel that it's because of how the Nigerian employers try their possible best to not give a F*CK about the programming mumbo jumbo. I remember vividly, my very first job, I prepped a long ass Word Doc on my processes, talked about how we should integrate Jupyter so we can work on code and bla bla bla The CEO met me on Monday morning and told me that all he's interested in is, whether he's winning or losing. If he's winning, why? If he's losing, why? I jeje began to use Excel pivots and sweet BI dashboards and everybody was happy. 9 Likes |
