Today, if you are a student in Nigeria you have numerous lines of thought. Some are motivating while some are demoralizing. For example, when you think of the way graduates and the media hit hard on the unemployment topic, I bet you will have a fear syrup run down your vain on just the thought of this. The bad news is that if you are already a graduate you know the reality, you know the level of impact and ultimately by now you that the topic of unemployment is a big deal to look into.
But again,
Have you thought of how we landed here or what is the main reason why the rate is getting higher day in day out?
Do you know that even as bad as the situation may be, same set of people are changing their jobs on a regular basis?
Do you also know that a new set of people are getting good-paying jobs here in Nigeria with us?
To make things worse when you have the opportunity to interact with the recruiters and employers you hear something like we have so and so roles opened for the past six months but no qualified candidates to fill that position.
I have a developer friend who got a new job with another organization and his current organization just gave him a simple requirement to help us to find a replacement then you can leave. To my surprise, he ended up requesting a raise after six months of not finding a replacement which was granted by his organization.
the point I am trying to make here is simple.
Yes the economy is bad
Yes there are no Jobs
yes we have many graduates than the jobs available
all this are correct but the most correct thing for any of the job seeker out there is to look at what the little percentage of people who have secured
a good-paying job did.
Before you say it is luck just know that only when preparations meet with opportunity that luck can happen.
for example, no matter how lucky you are to meet with the HRM of a telecommunication or oil company (Opportunity) and you don't have the minimum requirement to start with their organization (Preparation) that luck will never shine.
It is super simple, get yourself prepared for the opportunity so that your luck has the chance to shine.
Now you will be thinking that you have a Bsc or Msc in your field is that not enough preparations!
Yes, it is preparation but it is in no form near good preparation. The Era of just a degree certificate is long gone. it went away with the Era of Discos.
We are not in just a certificate world anymore but it is now the +1 world.
+1 world is having a certificate and just 1 more sabificate.
the sabificate here is about what to show the HR person personnel that you are not just the random engineer they recruit to be trained and retrained on what the job requirement is but you are bringing to the table a set of what they job requirement wants and extra.
It about mastering the art of what you want to be employed on.
Sabificate is about not just telling recruiters what you can do but show them what you have done and how that can help their organizations. Have it at the back of your mind that no organization will want to open a recruitment portal if there is no problem to be solved. Not even charity organizations.
Add value to your certificate.
Spend some cash on personal development even if you have to be hungry at some point, it's temporary.
Join groups and associations related to the industry you want to pick up a career in.
Don't always be an introvert, speak up and ask for help its called teamwork not cheating as it was in school.
Talking about joining a group, if you are interested in acquiring digital marketing skillset with mentorship and 3 months internship i will advise you heard to telegram and search for @topsalesolutions. Join the group and get the value plus the network you deserve to push forward.
On the final note, the journey is real, the competition is fiece and we have to navigate. the best of all the navigation is when you have someone that is willing to be by your side.
