That's good for her. I wished Ibru and co were handed similar judgment. The system is laying a bad foundation that crime pays. If someone steals 1 billion and gets 5 years, it's a good deal. |

@MzDarkSkin, do you really know what happened? Not quite sure I understand where you are going with your argument. |

MzDarkskin I think you are slightly wrong. Mrs Ibori is not a victim of her race or colour as you think. She is a product of her husband's numerous shoddy deals with the wealth of Delta State. Her husband used her, his Mistress, Uzoamaka and his own sister to illigally transfer huge sums of stolen money to the UK, using it to purchase erroneously purchase cars for Ibori's company in the Uk and aquire properties in their names. The bottom line here is that she is being tried for breaking the financial laws of the UK and I think Nigeria and the UK have a pact to prosecute any of such criminal. She is not the only going to jail, Ibori's sister and mistress are already there. But the remaining part of your comment, I understand your points and I agree with them, nice babe. |

@Monkey I was referring to what the person above me was saying about Nigeria being corrupt. I was just giving my opinion about why I think it is not fair to say so. @Rhymz. OH ok. For some reason I thought she was arrested and detained in Britain. But it appears she is to be sentenced in Nigeria. My bad I understand it now. Either way it is messed up. The power of money. . .his sister and mistress etc are going to jail but what about him?? |

MzDarkskin You mean ibori? Well, the criminal has been playing hide & seek with the Nigerian law enforcement agency EFFC and the british law enforcement. He was in the process of running from pillar to post when he got caught in Dubai by the Dubai enforcement and international police. Unfortunately, he can't be tried in Dubai as he did not commit any of his crimes in Dubai, besides, Nigeria and Dubai don't ve any pact of extraditing criminals, instead Dubai and Britain do. Already a court in Dubai has given the go-ahead for his extradition to Britain where he will face his crimes and do serious time that will make that of his women seem seem like an easy work in the park. Nigerians are angry with the judicial system here as a lot of the judges have been silenced by Ibori's stolen wealth. Could you believe this same man was charged and acquitted of all his crimes by a kangaroo court of Ibori and friends in his home state? Until the death of the former president-who was hopelessly lethargic and not in control of his goverment as he spent his whole time struggling with his ailing heatlth-Ibori was enjoying some kind of relative peace inspite of the damning evidence of financial impropriety levelled against him both by the EFCC and the Mets in Britain. The attempt by the EFCC to prosecute him was seriously frustrated by the then very very corrupt attorney general of the federation one rogue lawyer that calls himself Mike Aondaaka. This man defended the rogue like he was his defence attorney even though he was the AGF(Attorney General of the Federation). It came to a point, this rogue left his ministerial duties and secretly travelled incognito to Britain to demand that Ibori who was then in detention in Britain be extradited, claiming that the crimes he was being held for were committed in Nigeria and wanted to play thesame overused race card. When Nigerian residents in london learnt of the AGF's antics and gimmick, there was an avalenche of call to the hotel he was lodged to the extent the call traffic was overwhelming that the hotel authorities had to tell him to leave. So my sister, this people are getting what they deserve. Imagine a state government divested his own state's investment in a telecom and lodged all the money divested into his own private account, that is just one of the many crimes this kleptomaniac has committed. His own case was so brazen that he openly boasts about how nobody can arrest him. He was so confident of that because he was the single largest sponsor of the late lethargic presiden't campaign as a result he was able to persuade the then president to take his own former D.A as the AGF cos he knew it will all come down to this eventually. Thank God the president died and his VP whom Ibori vehememtly fought against his replacement is now the president. The first thing the new President did was to sack the rogue AGF and left Ibori vulnerable to the law enforcement agencies both home and abroad. He was going to be arrested by the EFCC when he absconded to Dubai and was later declared wanted by the EFCC. However, the long arm of justice has still caught up with him in Dubai and now he is appealing his extradition verdict to Britain where he would thoroughly tried and subsequently jailed as that that is inevitable. |

By SaharaReporters, New York The Southwark Crown Court in London, which has sent James Ibori money-laundering operatives to jail in recent months, yesterday granted a confiscation of proceeds of crime order against the jailed sister of the former Delta state governor. Judge Christopher Harding ruled that Christine Ibori-Ibie, who was jailed for five years last June, benefited from looted Delta state funds by over £4 million. Christine, who appeared in court yesterday, refused to give evidence in the confiscation trial. Under the order, she is required to pay £832,000 in the next six months or risk bagging a fresh five years in the slammer in addition to the five years she is now serving for engaging in money laundering with James Ibori. The £829, 000 is made of up of the value of her property in London minus what she owes in mortgage loans. Despite Christine’s refusal to give any evidence yesterday, her lawyers agreed that the figures were correct. She made it known, however, that she did not agree that she benefited from the Delta State loot to the extent of the amount declared by the court. The London Metropolitan police, working through the "Proceed Of Crimes Unit ” (POCU), comprising a few Scotland Yard police detectives: John MackDonald, Peter Clarke, Paul Garnener and Ben Irons, have relentlessly pursued former governors James Ibori, Dipreye Alamieyeseigha and Joseph Dariye. The three former governors of Delta, Plateau and Bayelsa States used UK banks, to launder funds looted from their respective states. The team, working with a female prosecutor, Sasha Wass, QC, has succeeded in jailing accomplices of the three former governors while they await the extradition of Mr. Ibori, who is currently in Dubai. Last month, Mr. Ibori appealed the decision of a lower court there granting an extradition request by the London Metropolitan Police. The CPS and London Mets police will continue with confiscation hearings to regain all assets purchased by convicted members of the Ibori clan. A number of Delta State indigenes and officials were indicted in the trial but could not be tried as the UK does not try criminals in absentia except in terrorism cases. The notable accomplices who could not be tried include the recently deposed Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan; his deputy, Prof. Utuama; as well as David Edevbie who was Ibori's commissioner of finance before taking office as Principal Private Secretary to Umaru Yar ’Adua. Despite his indictment, Uduaghan is battling to retake office as Delta state governor, the position from which he was sacked two weeks ago by the Court of Appeal. One of the attractions of the office for him is the promise of immunity while in office. An attempt by the EFCC to arrest and prosecute him over Ibori-era corruption has been stopped by President Goodluck Jonathan, according to EFCC officials that spoke to Saharareporters under condition of anonymity. The political mathematics in Delta State is straightforward: Ibori covered his tracks by putting Uduaghan, his cousin, in office after him, and Uduaghan is thought to be interested in using the same strategy to protect their future, at least in Nigeria. But if an opponent of both men takes office in the election set for within 90 days by the Court of Appeal, Delta State could enjoy a new start. |
