Port Harcourt — Two Muslim and Christian groups have in the past eight years been using the same room in a building in Port Harcourt for the five daily Islamic prayers as well as weekly church services, Daily Trust learnt in Port Harcourt.

Our correspondent who was at the nearly completed bungalow located within a large block making factory at 133 Abloma Road, monitored a group of Muslims in congregation and individually, praying inside the room which also has a church setting with a glass pastor's podium and seats for other worshippers. Service holds every Thursday, 4 pm to 6pm in the same place.

It was discovered that five Muslims from Nigeria and Togo have also been squatting in the room for years while their friends and any Muslim passerby who seeks where to pray, is shown the same place.

Samaila, alias Baba Suya, who runs a local barbecue in the area, is one of the Muslims who live and pray in the building and he is popular amongst the locals because he is an errand boy to Mr Ken, the owner of the house.

"For eight years, we have been living and praying in that place which also serves as a church. The church holds every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm, some people usually come to conduct services which has been the case for many years. They know we pray there but what we do is that before their usual service we pack up our mats and clear the place for them. When they come we exchange pleasantries warmly and they do their service after which we bring our mats at night and we don't move anything till the following Thursday for their service".
