This job requires candidates to be able to perform duties that include the following:

Impeccable grammar skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for ensuring accuracy and clarity.
Ability to adhere to style guidelines and a desire to work in a fast-paced news environment are essential.
Proofread text and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
Verify factual correctness of information, such as dates and statistics
Check text for style, readability, and adherence to editorial policies
Arrange page layouts of photos, articles, and advertisements
Rewrite text to improve clarity and readability
Rework submitted stories to draw out stronger angles
Ability to background stories with facts, figures and history as relevant
Eagle eye for spotting likely plagiarism and drawing Editor’s attention to it promptly
Computer literacy
Desirable:

Ability to work with little or no supervision
Resourcefulness: approach news editing from more pragmatic angles
Analytical skills - Use clear, logical steps and excellent judgment to understand possible news items from all angles
Ability to post stories online
Computer skills and familiarity with office proprietary software such as Microsoft Word, etc.
Education/Experience/Language requirements

Between five (5) and 15 years of active on-the-job experience
Minimum of first degree in the English Language, Mass Communication or any of the Arts/social science courses
English proficiency is a must
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Resourcefulness: approach news editing from more pragmatic and dramatic angles
Analytical skills - Use clear, logical steps and excellent judgment to understand stories and edit as appropriate
Computer skills and familiarity with office proprietary software such as Microsoft Word, etc.
