So Mikel would have benched JJ or Sunday oliseh..
Or he will bench viera, Gilberto Silva and petit.
Mikel is an average footballer, that's why he's not recognized in African even with all the trophy he won.
Kanu nwankwo is a legend and highly recognized anywhere in the world football.
Even in the last world cup he was recognized by FIFA.
he is not recognise and yet fifa paid him tribute when he retired frm the national team,he is not recognise and yet his shirt was chosen by fifa to be at their museum at the last worldcup, pls can u tell me one memorable thing kanu did at the world cup

arsenal fans no go make us rest ,apart frm the u17 and olympics what did kanu do in the senior national team,86 app 12 goals no single in 6 afcon app no single goal in three wc app'it funny hw u guys keep going back to what he did in 90s because really didnt do much in d 200s,even during arsenal invincible he was not give the epl winners medal ,he did not play upto five games dat season ,am sure u also knw dat kanu holds the record of the third substituted in player in the epl during is era,he came off the bench the most of d time

KANU nwankwo was arguably the best player in the world in 1996.

But oyibo ojoro dey denied him because the previous year another African George Weah had won it.

But clearly he was the world best in 1996

Kanu Nwankwo (Nigeria/Ajax)

Kanu led the U-23 national team to win the continent’s first gold medal in the Summer Olympic men’s football tournament in 1996 in Atlanta, USA.

He won the African Footballer of the Year award twice in 1996 and 1999 but never claimed the Africa Cup of Nations title with the Super Eagles.

He could have won the award in 1996 given his achievements with Nigeria and Ajax 1996 where he won the UEFA Champions League were it not for a certain Germany legend called Mathias Sammer.

I don't think Nermay Jr. Can will Champions league and 2020 Olympics and not be given a gallon dor

Without doubt I think KANU Nwankwo deserved to be Nigeria's Greatest

1. He was the key man in U17 when we won the cup......Japan 1993

2. He destroyed Brazil at Atlanta 96 to put Nigeria on the global map.....when Nigeria became the first African team to win Olympics goal

3.He was the first Nigerian big player to play in the EPL ....remember the Arsenal invincible

4. Mehn the guy was graced ...two times African football

5 At a point the most decorated player in the whole of africa

100%

It's annoying and disrespectful for anyone to compare Mikel obi to nwankwo kanu. They are not in the same level at all.
Kanu nwankwo is gifted with techniques and skills no African footballer can match till date. He play football with ease and make a difficult goal look easy.

Deluded chelsea fans who think football started in 2012 will foolishly compare a sluggish cum non creative midfielder like mikel to PAPILO NWANKWO.

Taking a trip down the memory lane, i can stake my curved like banana cock , that john obi mikel won't make the super eagle starting eleven in 1996.

Okocha overrated??
Maradona overrated??

You see why people always attack you Messi indomie fans...

You think if Messi and Ronaldo played football in the time of such players, they'd have up to 5 ballondors??

For you to call maradona overrated shows the kind of person you Messi fans are, only Messi isn't overrated... A maradona that lifted a Napoli to league titles winning best player and golden boot along the way... A maradona that put Argentina on the football map?

Alright Messi is the only non overrated player in the world

Okocha overrated? Really??
A master of midfield that carried a dead Bolton team playing with unskilled players like Davies and Jameel etc??
A midfield maestro that combined skills with dribbles even inventing his own step overs.. A great passer of the ball, freekicks, shoot technique... Really?
Kaiiiiiiiiiii... you're overrating the okocha I know! Was he a freekick specialist? A great passer of the ball? What shooting technique? All I remember is his dribbling skills...no doubt about that...and only at Bolton did he play purposefully to lift the team...and at Frankfurt while still developing...for Nigeria believe me he didn't push the team enough to consider him better than average.
Our problem is we're unduly emotional about who we follow and rate them from our point of view

I don't need Google to tell me about a man I watched live over three world cups and almost his entire club career. Maradona was a proper 10, the fact he liked bombing forward to join the attack doesn't make him a forward. Frank lampard is another midfielder that likes attacking, he was so prolific that he is now Chelsea's highest goalscorer of all time. Does that make lampard a forward?
and ? Like I said , he's just like Messi , can play as a 10 and as an ss and mind u maradona was playing behind buruchaga in the world cup .

Lampard isn't a 10 , a 10 is a central attacking midfielder who stays upfront a lot and doesn't have much defensive responsibility .

nah , maradona was a forward , he's just similar to Messi . Plays behind a striker , he can play as a false nine or a central attacking midfielder .
Maradona was not a forward and he was not like Messi, You can call Messi a forward but Maradona was a midfield general.

Maradona zidane figo zico iniesta Xavi cryuff Platini modric rivelinho seedorf Lampard ronaldinho pirlo scholes jairzinho George best, di stefano, puskas

When you talk about an all round contribution to a team I think okocha will be severely benched by most of these guys up there. If your team were leading 4-0 you might sub okocha in to entertain the fans.

I'm term of footballing talent (no records, no acheivements etc).. just footballing talent I.e passing, skill, vision, dribbles, one on one situation, technique etc... Name 5 midfielders in the history of footballer better than Okocha...

You just Dey use concept wey u no know the meaning. What exactly is box to box in football? And how does it relate to yekini? Him Dey follow go defend everytime opponents attack?
oluwaahmed:

What was so special about yekini? He was a classic box-to-box striker like ighalo & Agahowa. maybe the slight difference was his speed despite his size.
Odemwinge, martins on the other hand could switch up from 9 to 8 to 7 sometimes and they scored mad goals for club and country. Same thing with KANU.
BTW okocha was fully in Nigeria squad of 1994 that won the nations cup & 2nd round KO of usa94.

Damn son, this Nigeria was especially where I had problems with him. The talent was obvious but the use was not purposeful. A less talented footballer like xavi or even xabi Alonso or Toni Kroos were better because they were purposeful with the way they played. No unnecessary entertainment yet they are greats in their own rights.
