Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora CCAD, the Parent body of all Abia Indigenous Social, Cultural and Political Groups in the Diaspora has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abia state government and well to do Nigerians to save her members from dying of starvation. The group made this appeal through a statement jointly signed by the President General Prince Erondu Uche and HRH Eze J.I Ochonma the Secretary General and made available to newsmen on April 2nd 2020. The group said that some of their members are now sick as a result of lack of food and other necessities because they cannot go out and find their daily bread.

LOCKDOWN OVER COVID-19; OUR MEMBERS ARE LANGUISHING IN STARVATION, HAVE NO ACCESS TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PALLIATIVES; CONCERNED CITIZENS OF ABIA IN DIASPORA CCAD CRIES OUT.

Press Release

We wish to draw the attention of the federal government of Nigeria and Abia state government to the sufferings of Abia Citizens in Diaspora. The lockdown has grossly affected our economic wellbeing.

Almost all the states have ordered closure of markets, shops, schools etc to contain the spread of the virus which is a welcome development. But the closure without provision of relief materials and preventive materials is now another problem. Our members who largely petty traders, artisans, farmers and unemployed including the aged, women, youths and children are languishing in starvation as they cannot go out to find their daily bread. This situation has further worsened their pitiable conditions as many are now sick.

We wish also to state that millions of our members all over Nigeria have no access to the palliatives provided by the federal government of Nigeria despite the presence of some of our national leaders in Abuja.

Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora CCAD therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu the Governor of Abia State, all Federal Lawmakers of Abia state origin, Politicians, Philanthropists and Well meaning Nigerians to come to our aid by providing relief materials, cash donations and other related incentives to cushion the effects of this lockdown.

Signed;

Prince Erondu Uche
President General CCAD.

HRH Eze J. I. Ochonma
Secretary General CCAD

But in a more serious note, some of our people depend on daily income. The sit at home order has placed many on a hunger node. My sincere opinion, everyone should please assist the friend or neighbor who is perceived to be in need. We may begin to hear that some persons who never have any near experience of coronavirus or covid19 suddenly committed suicide out of frustration. Some may be starved to death. So friends and brothers, always try to be your brothers' keepers. And the Almighty God will surely bless you as you do so.
