Nigerian security forces kill 18 during curfew enforcement

At least 18 people in Nigeria have been killed by security forces during the enforcement of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, a figure higher than the documented toll inflicted by the disease, the country's human rights body said.

In a report released late on Wednesday, the National Human Rights Commission said it had received and documented "105 complaints of incidents of human rights violations perpetuated by security forces" in 24 of Nigeria's 36 states and Abuja, the capital.

In Nigeria, the value of life is Zero, and this has gradually become a societal thing where more lives are lost by factors like security forces high-handedness, miscreants, communal clashes, domestic violence, elections, cultism, terrorism/banditry, accidents, poor medical care, hunger/starvation, natural disasters, ritual killings, abortions, illicit drug abuse, armed robbery, fire outbreaks, airforce mis-timed bombings, etc., than natural disasters and pandemics. The annoying thing is that everyone moves on after about 48hours of ranting. Little wonder why the government treats pensioners so badly in Nigeria, cos the system probably never expected them to survive till that age....what a shame!
