goggs: I have some issues here. 1. january 10th to February !st or 4th do not amount to 2 weeks. It is more like 3 or 4. 2. Registration can be done without closing schools. INEC can source their desks anywhere. They have the fund. In any case community leaders can provide the furniture for free. I for one will oblige them 3. Now, if thugs go on rampage , what is the police doing. Another Nigerian style, avoiding responsibility and push it somewhere else. Path of least resistance. 4, If the children are in school they are saver than roaming the streets . Or you will put them under house arrest b/c of registration. 5. Now do not tell me about labour the NYSC are there. 6. I say we are a lazy lot. 3 weeks needless holidays is a colossal waste. (a) Cost of paying the teachers to the economy (b) The time of millions of children wasted. (c) social cost. Idle hands devils workshop. (d) loss of revenue for industries servicing educational sector. And so on and so on. No great country gives holidays like this. Go to Japan , they work like clocks and they live longer. I insist, Useless leaders luckless country. |
Re: Extension Of School Holidays - This Is Crazy! by Favben(m): 5:24pm On Jan 07, 2011 |
The truth is that if the schools open,a lot of people will not get to do this registration. Imagine teachers and a lot of other civil servants complaining of going to work very early and closing late that they do not get to meet up to visit the voter registration centres. It would also be worthwhile if some days would be set out as public holidays to help people in other busy fields to register. |

That is what you get when you allows clueless people to lead your country. BTW, I heard students will now seat for 5 subjects in WAEC/NECO due to the mass failure in recent years. I have a strong feeling this country will be re-colonised in future. |

For those saying we should understand the government, think about this 1. At what time did INEC/Govt realize that they were going to use public schools for registration venue? Why could they not have planned ahead, for instance starting the reg. Jan 4 - 18 so the schools can resume earlier. 2. Govt says SSS3 may resume. What about JSS3 students. is there exam no longer important? And if JSS3 is asked to resume, that makes a third of school students. If govt guarantees the security of this one third or or one sixth, what does it take to guarantee the security of other students? 3. The govt should have been clear how they intend to recover the lost 3 - 4 weeks, so calendars may be readjusted right now. Fire brigade approach is always stunting our developmental growth. 4. I know areas, even in Ibadan here (newly developed areas) where there are no government school within reasonable distances. In such cases where does INEC intend to use? 5. For those saying food is not an issue, what about kids in boarding house. I have already paid their fees yet they will spend the next 3 weeks consuming un-budgeted resources. Is government also going to compel boarding schools to refund part of the fees? ( We no private schools will give an excuse not to do this) 6. Could there not have been a way to ask the schools to close earlier - may be 12 noon - and extend the registration period by some days to cover the lost hours. With proper brainstorming could a better solution not be found that will not necessitate this wanton destruction of valuable teaching hours? I believe this government does not think out it's policies thoroughly, (e.g. Eagles withdrawal from competitions, then rescinded) and it is affecting its goodwill (if not goodluck!) For me, its a pity that theres not much choice in Goodluck, Atiku, Buhari etc. I really fear for this fire brigade country called Nigeria! |

January has been declared by our visionless govt as a month of BRAIN DROUGHT and INACTIVITY for the sake of arrangee registration.Definitely, the country will go on break for close to 2 months when the election proper comes up.GOD SAVE OUR DESTINY WASTING LEADERS. |
Re: Extension Of School Holidays - This Is Crazy! by Xtfield(m): 10:03pm On Jan 07, 2011 |
some schools will reopen on 10th january. the federal ministry of education does not control schools in the states. besides, government does not fund private schools! |
Re: Extension Of School Holidays - This Is Crazy! by Xtfield(m): 10:09pm On Jan 07, 2011 |
Why close only schools. Better to close all banks, markets, hospitals, etc |

I am so angry-I have searched for every site I can comment on this topic. These functional morons that run our country have decided that they will close all primary and secondary schools for almost a month for an exercise with no commencement date,no timetable,no information, PLEASE who are the advisers? What is wrong with local government offices? Did someone mention security factor? When has the Nigerian government for one moment considered your life or mine or oh yes our children's lives less than dispensable oh I meant disposable. When armed robbers are killing- where is the government? Instead we have bad roads so we cannot drive to escape the "armed toll robbers",no PHCN so you cannot even hide,no water so they can smell you out, Extension of school holidays? These selfish thieving morons who run this country have finally brought the education system down to its knees-They are not satisfied with the destruction of the tertiary system but have decided to face the youth from cradle . Nations have conducted registration exercise before but NEVER where a whole section of the population are so destabilised for such a lengthy period. Then they complain about "brain drain" Let me tell you the truth is that those who sat to decide this apart from being mindless twits do NOT have their children in any Nigerian school. Shame on you MINISTER FOR EDUCATION did you advocate this? or did you fight for your portfolio? Shame on you GOODLUCK .INEC, Oh what a sad decision.Imagine they said let us use hospitals , we would complain. Those of you who don't see what is wrong with this is that please take note this is not a week long exercise or even a cohesive organised exercise. So if they shut schools for 4 weeks for registration I can imagine we should consider shutting the whole economy down for about 3 months to permit us to stay at home to vote. |

Re: Extension Of School Holidays - This Is Crazy! by victor92(m): 4:45pm On Jan 08, 2011 |
babslepe:staying at home does nt guarantee any form of security cos student and pupils are even safer while 2geda in school dan roaming d street. Also,i think private schls should not b included cos their skul would not b used in d registration and govt wil luk for ways of meeting up just as d case of d ASUU strike. |

I'm leaving this Country ASAP, What an uncivilized govt. They are clueless and they don't seek for ideas before making decisions and at the end of the day the whole registration and election will be fraud. How can INEC be using NYSC Coppers for voting exercise? Where are their own kids and to which Local Gov't were they posted to? Is there any Security for the Coppers? Goodluck or Badluck, they have no plan for the masses and I wonder what this Country will turn to very soon. Lord hear my Cry, |

Re: Extension Of School Holidays - This Is Crazy! by Tunmi(f): 6:18am On Jan 09, 2011 |
I assume the schools will be used as voting centres which is actually very good. But, INEC should have informed the public of which schools to go to. In the US, the voting committee uses public buildings such as public schools and the library to hold elections. That could be the same thing here. They also send out pamphlets and they have a website where you could find where you will be voting. If INEC had split up the locations and allotted public schools to certain zipcodes, the extension would not be so bad. I just do not like that the process is taking weeks away from students. It should be a maximum of one week. But, since Nigeria is still learning, hopefully, they will get it right next time. Since public school kids will be out, and teachers will be expected to vote, it makes sense to close all schools for the duration of the voting period. The same thing happens here. Parents are encouraged to take their kids with them for the experience value, but I am not quite sure if that will happen in Naija. |
