WHO IS A MENTOR ?
A mentor is someone who has been experienced enough, in a particular field of purpose in order to guide others who are just going into it.
A mentor is someone who has been to where you are going to,
One who has met those you are yet to meet,
One who has done what you are yet to do or achieve,
And one who has seen/experienced what you are yet to know.
QUALITIES OF A MENTOR.
1) Disciplined
3) God fearing
3) Established
4) Unique/Original
5) known by good fruits - Gal 5:22, Ephesians 5:9.
WHY DOES ONE NEED A MENTOR ?
1) For Guidance - John 16:13.
2) For Foresight - John 16:13.
3) For Good counsel - Proverbs 11:14.
4) For Motivation - 1 timothy 6:12.
5) For Clarity of purpose/insight - John 14:16
6) To Avoid making mistakes - 2timothy 4:5
7) For Growth - Ephesians 4:12.
For Support - Colossians 1:9.
SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF MENTORSHIP.
1) Moses and Joshua
2) Elijah and Elisha
3) Elisha and Gehazi
4) Jesus and His Disciples
5) Paul and Timothy and others.
Etc.
FEW DEFINITIONS OF MENTORSHIP.
- Mentorship is discipleship,
- Mentorship is preparing others for where you are likely to live at anytime,
- It is the training and building up of people,
- It is making provision for the next generation,
- It is an act of raising leaders.
CONCLUSION.
The ministry of mentorship can never end. A lot of undone ministers in various fields today, are as a result of poor mentorship background.
Mentors are instruments in the Hands of God, used to build up the next generation.
A good mentor will mentor you to mentor others. He is not selfish, jealous or temperamental.
No mentorship can be successful without the Holy Spirit involved. He is what makes "mentoring" possible. He is the Chief Mentor of all mentors put together.
