You cannot proceed to PhD with professional masters. It is mostly for people who are working but needs degree for promotion or for more exposure in that field where they are working.

Well i have two masters and these days i dont understand why i went for them.

I will tell you why you went for it.

You went for it so as to have something to tell people you were doing.

You also went for it to be able to secure a lucrative job which I doubt you did.

What Kind of question is this? i believe this question isn't worth it cuz everyone already knows even unborn baby in nigeria already knows it

PhD holder sef don't guarantee job in Nigeria not to talk of masters

na Nigera we dey where nothing works!

Since growing up I have always been accustomed to the idea of double up my degree.
Not like it's a bad thing but what purpose does it serve to run a Masters or PhD program in the long run.

My Dad is always telling me to do one program here and there. It gets tiring honestly as I don't consider myself an academic per se and I would only put in effort when I see something is absolutely necessary.

A cousin of mine once went to the UK for her masters, previously working at a brewery. She told me that going for this program would guarantee her an upgrade in department level

Has anyone here gotten any similar experiences, share your story or those you know of. Were you ever selected for a job based on that or a promotion?

Note that I’m Nigeria, you’re only being promoted based on the qualification you applied with, if you like go and study post masters in heaven during the course of your job , you will still be considered based on your entry qualification

Getting a job depends largely in the course and service u can offer and then a good degree atleast. Masters shud allow help u advance ur career once u stated bt here do to no work people without experience rush to do masters in hope to get a job without considering how lucrative the 1 or 2nd degree is.

U will be faced with thesame situation and challenges as b4 most likely unless u have smtn extra to offer.

it pays when you don't have to spend your savings to acquire one when the prospect of getting a job is not here.
But you will be highly disappointed if you think it will land you an automatic job slot,so many people with Masters.
the only degree I know that you have a job guarantee on is PhD

Not always, in fact it might limit or hamper you if employers can't afford to pay your level of qualification. That's why sometimes people reduce their qualifications on their CVs to improve their chances.

Masters Degree programmes are supersaturated. It is a case of having it but don't need it than needing it but don't have it. It does not guarantee employment. You will be surprised that a lot of people with masters degrees are still working their old jobs. They are only being optimistic.

NOTHING guarantees an income ANYWHERE on earth.

Your qualification can not always feed you in Nigeria.

Even a visa does not guarantee that they will allow you to enter their country at their airport.

We have to think MORE of using our brains to earn a living meaning that we have to work smarter and not harder.

An option many people ignore is to start a small scale business or a few small scale businesses and see how it goes and forget what people around you may say.

If the global Covid19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is that FOOD SELLERS WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF BUSINESS AND INCOME.

If you know the number of people in Nigeria that can open a mama put with just N50,000 you will marvel.

The simplest guaranteed business one can start that trumps any INSECURE job as an employee with minimal funds is a restaurant / Mama Put or just a pepper soup joint and if it means relocating to a cheaper staNi

what I do advise ppl.. M.Sc. doesn't guarantee a job. if you wanna dabble into academics or wanna be a scholar.. then go for. your msc which preceeds you to. P.hD level.. buh if yu wanna be in the industry learn a skil gain experience go for. certification and climb up. the ladder..
but note most of us that did msc and stil go. into. the industry hav upper hand of going for PhD in the future.. so. most just keep there msc for. future purpose.

A master's degree is very significant. Especially in cases, where the student didn't do so well at the undergraduate level. A master's provides a boost. Big companies like Mobil, Nnpc etc don't normally send invites to 2.2 and below. But they concede if you have a 2.2 plus a master's (with distinction).
Also, in more recent times, BSc has become as popular as leaving school certificate, hence the need to step up your qualifications which will ultimately give you the edge. Don't listen to people saying, MSc is a waste of time. Trust me it's just one year sometimes 18months, but the certificate stays with you for life. Think about it. If you want to lecture, it's almost a must you have one too.
Without further ado, if you have the chance to up your qualifications, please do.

Thanks a lot you made a lot of sense

what if you are on a third class level plus the masters

It does not any longer. Gone are the days when a masters or a foreign degree guaranteed you instant job in Nigeria. There is an over saturation in the job market now of people who meet both criteria which means companies rely more on work experience now.

Just try to finish uni early. (Preferably under the age of 24) do few unpaid internships, if you have to, to get the ‘experience’ thing out of the way and then you should be good to go.

Otherwise your best bet is to rely on personal connections. Which is always the surest way to get a job in Nigeria.

Thanks bro well said...
