A prominent Iraqi Shia scholar Ayatollah Sayed Hadi al-Modaressi has contracted the novel Coronavirus, the official sources confirmed last week. The 63-year-old prominent cleric, however, previously believed that Coronavirus is Allah’s punishment for the Chinese people. Al-Modaressi is a native of Iraq’s Holy city Karbala.

Family sources have confirmed that he is being treated in quarantine and is recovering. “My uncle, may God protect him, is being treated and his health is consistently progressing,” his nephew Mohsen Almodaressi said in a Facebook post.

Back in February, Hadi Al-Modarresi said that the coronavirus outbreak was “undoubtedly an act of Allah that is divine punishment against the Chinese for their treatment, mockery, and disrespect towards Muslims and Islam”. ”More than a billion people live in that country. The authorities in that country are tyrannical and they laid siege to more than a million Muslims and placed them under house arrest.
