No drop of petrol or kerosene was produced by any of the refineries under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for eight straight months.

Latest figures released by the NNPC on refined white products (petrol and kerosene) from local refineries showed that from June 2019 till January 2020, the facilities refined none of the identified finished products.

It was further observed that the last time the refineries produced Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise called petrol, was in May last year.

The same scenario also applied in the production of Dual Purpose Kerosene, often referred to as kerosene, as the last time it was refined by the facilities was in May 2019.

Refineries under the management of the NNPC are the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, Port Harcourt Refining Company and Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

An analysis of the figures should that in January, February and March 2019, the refineries produced 45.5 million litres, 44.1 million litres and 44.1 million litres of petrol respectively.

Also, in the same first three months of last year, they jointly produced 36 million litres, 36.1 million litres and 38.2 million litres of the DPK respectively. But in April last year, their production of the PMS and the DPK crashed to zero, meaning that they refined no white product in that month.

In May 2019, they produced 9.1 million litres of petrol and 4.9 million litres of kerosene. But from June last year till January 2020, no drop of petrol or kerosene was produced by the refineries, as they recorded zero all through the eight-month period.

Explaining what prompted the dormancy in terms of petroleum products refining, the NNPC said, “No white product was produced in January 2020 and apparently for the past seven consecutive months.“The lack of production is due to ongoing rehabilitation works at the refineries.”

But stakeholders in the oil sector faulted the never-ending rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries and had called on the government to privatise the facilities.

Recently, a consortium of about 15 civil society organisations asked the Federal Government to privatise the refineriesAccording to the groups, this will help the government as it currently struggles to manage the Nigerian economy following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on crude oil price globally.

CISLAC, BudgIT and 13 other organisations disclosed this in a recommendation released after their meeting on developments in Nigeria’s oil sector.

They said, “As a matter of urgent national importance, we strongly support the call for the privatisation of the country’s refineries in their present condition to avoid further revenue losses.

“We encourage the government to adopt favourable fiscal terms that bring about a renewed investors’ confidence and help fast-track the 29+ refineries, which still have valid operating licenses.”

The refineries have be down because of the fake turn around maintenance (T.A.M) they intended doing.... As at today there’s no maintenance work ongoing.... A lot of equipment , a lot of pipes worth billions of Naira would get destroyed because of this shutdown...

The refineries dropped 95% of its contract staff in April....Thereby sending graduates back to the streets .... These contract staff(s) do 95% of all the jobs there , but were refused permanent employment... These graduates have worked for close to 5 - 15years with nothing to show ...

Nigeria go better one day cool

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el Rufai, has said Nigeria must do away with its “corrupt” oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, or stand the risk of itself being destroyed.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/186622-nigeria-must-kill-nnpc-el-rufai.html/amp/

Another failed scam, the NNPC is just a cash cow and cesspool of unimaginable corruption by all successive governments in Nigeria.NNPC should have long been privatised especially now that the price of crude oil is fluctuating @ absymal low levels.

The audio promise on One-year One-refinery is long gone with the winds.Huge turn around maintenance (TAM) cost is being paid but diverted into corrupt pockets while the FG is paying subsidy under-recovery yet price of petrol is ridiculously high.

Atiku lost the last elections because he suggested unbundling this corrupt contraption called NNPC. Buhari fell in love with the place when he first tasted the fruit as petroleum minister in 1976: that is why, against the Constitution, he has remained petroleum minister in the last 6 years. NNPC is why Nigeria can never move forward.

And to think Singapore less than the size of Lagos (land mass) with less than 6 million population with little or no oil, refines over 1.5 million barrels of oil per day!

Egypt about the size of Nigeria (land mass) with population about a third of Nigeria's with less than a third of Nigeria's daily oil production, refines over 700,000 barrel per day, producing over 50,000 MW of electricity (Nigeria does 3000 -5,000 MW)!

How can a country of roughly 200m that spends 30-40% of its meagre Forex earnings on refined oil it can easily refine by herself ever progress!!! sad

Atiku, am sorry I attacked and critized you when you said u will sell off those refinaries. I was blind, now I can see. The idea is actually very good but I can't trust u with the sales, u will end up selling it off to urself and ur friends instead of the general public and mismanage the procede. The privertization policy under obasanjo which was under ur office comes to mind. That is the reason most Nigerians opposed the idea coming from you. That is why it is always good to use the opportunity given to you to do good to the public and be sincere

Those refineries should be donated to nollywood and used to act action films like we see Jackie Chan and Chuck Norris do.

I will never forget how some educated i.d.i.o.ts attacked Atiku the day he said he will privatise NNPC if elected.

They used failure on power privatisation to justify their attack. I was wondering why they failed to see the gain in the open market in the Telecom industry. Surely education is not GOLDEN.

Though so bad, we are waiting for Dangote's refinery to come to our rescue.
