The President of Bioresources Development Group and a consultant pharmacognosist, Prof. Maurice Iwu, has pointed out other major factors that offer Africans some form of protection from the Coronavirus aside the hot temperatures in most parts of the continent.

“An issue is high humidity in most African countries, not just hot temperatures. Because of the density of the virus in tropical Africa, it cannot travel far. That means the recommendation of two metres of social distancing does not apply here because the virus cannot go far,” he said.

Iwu, who disclosed this to The Guardian, also raised the diet factor thus: “our food has more antioxidants. We take a lot of phytomedicines. A lot of our diets contain zinc, vitamin C and other antioxidants. People take all these on a daily basis without even thinking about it".

While explaining that there is also the social exclusion of Sub-Saharan Africa, he explained: “We are excluded from so many socio-economic activities going on in the West. The number of people who travel from just Milan to New York on a daily basis far outnumbers the air travels in most parts of Africa.

"So, the socio-economic exclusion from the global picture has protected us from the quick spread of the virus through frequent business travels and inter-continental movements.”

Iwu further cited the issue of seasonal flu vaccines common in most European and American countries, explaining that “most of these countries use flu vaccine. Once you take the flu vaccine and a new strain comes in, it will cause all the defence mechanisms to relax. This scenario makes most countries that use the flu vaccine more vulnerable to COVID-19".

This sounds right and just.
Some many other things to think about (we (in Africa) unconsciously do things that make nature smiles at us unlike in Europe, when nature is against them).

I have no reason to doubt this position.

Something beyond our capacity must be responsible for the very minimal case and death from Covid-19 recorded in Africa so far as against what's obtainable in America and Europe and Asia.

Yet we have 7000 and counting. Antioxidant in fufu, Akpu, Eba, Rice, Amala, Tuwo etc. That's what most Africans eat.

Still looking for the antioxidants

Do the math, 7000 since the case was first reported to the 100s of thousands of other European countries.

It says a lot.

Then the hard on bill and melinda gates were just having for Africa seems to have failed.

Thank goodness for our hot weather and bitter leaf soup.

check the number of recovery, death and possibilities against the country population then you can deduce the fact that we are on the right track. Remember global output and useless Bill & Melinda Gate said Africa will witness million death ratio but what is happening now left them in shock even when we hv poor health facilities yet no African nation hv hit 1000 death to compare their estimated figures

One month ago, few would have disputed the professor's hypothesis regarding the low mortality rate recorded for the Corona virus in Africa. Today , on May 22nd 2020, however, Brazil whose climate, annual weather cycles and high humidity are all IDENTICAL to the conditions in Nigeria, is now witnessing a conservative total of one thousand Corona virus deaths PER DAY.

If Corona virus deaths in Brazil can run as high as they are currently, there simply is no guarantee that Nigeria and many other African countries will continue to escape the brunt of the ongoing contagion indefinitely, given the similarity in climate between West Africa and Latin America.

I thought it is the other way around. Some of the vaccines are now tested to fight Covid-19. E.g BCG vaccine.

Vaccines should have synergistic effect.
