Don't resign yet, you need to save more before quiting the bank job and trust me you can combine a biz with your current job to make more income and if possible get your siblings to help out with the kids |

Don't resign yet. Doing business is not as easy as it seems. You could invest in some small businesses later on while still maintaining your job. My advice to you is to get comfort transporting to your new location. You could relocate to a residence closer to the new branch and probably get a new school for your kids. The school should also be closer to the new residence. Your brother or sis could come stay with you so that they can pick your kids from school 1 Like 1 Share |

You are at the gate of unemployment and business may not favour you, this is just a ploy to frustrate you to resigning your position. Stand firm and get accommodation close to ur place of work even if u own the house you live in right now. Maintain your job and don't let them win by giving in to the ploy. 5 Likes |

You have only a paltry 2m naira and you wanna leave a job of 5m naira per anum for a business you've not thought up. You will regret your life if you dare it. Your one month salary is even enough to rent house beside your new office and if possible change your children school. You need at least 10 years on that job. Except you start a business and it starts yielding over half your salary consistently for a year 2 Likes 1 Share |

2. Start the process of setting up a business while you're still employed. This way you can weigh the options if it's for you or not. And can easily convert your salaries towards the establishment of the business Bro, Listen to me, for those giving you the above advise, I know they meant no harm but I would advice you not to try this because you will be making the person in charge of the business while you are working rich, while you lose your money. Business is best done when you are very much involved or has been part of it for years enough to know when you are being lied to or cheated. A lot of people have lost their money giving out their business because they are working. Secondly, Business is not easy as they say it but it's interesting, it involves training, I mean practical training, unless you might lose out. remember it also involves patient because you could get frustrated from the start if your feel you are not making enough money. Just continue with your job, for now and raise more money. I mean more money. Then you can thinking importing. unless you are trained in a particular business, I mean well trained. Good luck. 2 Likes |

Guessed you have more than what you have mentioned here. >The patient dog eats the fattest bone! >In this difficult situation of unemployment, don't files for resignation. > Simple put: solve the distance barrier btwn your resident, working place and your children school > Whatsoever business you are to involves is uncertain |

Starting a business is good but I will implore you to save very well before embarking into any business. -Do you have a business plan now that 2mil can take care of? I know some people starting a business and it later crumbled because of no adequate plan. You may take the pain of changing the children's school and find an apartment closer to ur place of work. I know it's not easy but give it a try. Don't quit the job for now. God will surely guide you. |

tosinntoyin: Good bless you ma'am, pls always consider people that depends on you before you make the decision. Now to the fact of job security no business can quickly give you that kind of monthly salary of yours in the next 1 year. And again look for an apartment close to that place of work and never trust anybody with your kids. How I wish I could help. I grew up with my mum and I understand the sacrifices of a banker/career woman she gives. Thank God we turned out fine. But not all kids left alone can survive the pressure. Just stick your neck out and be strong woman. The Lord will put you through |

OgogoroFreak:☝️ Best Advice SO FAR..... Listen and Listen Good, get another accommodation near the new Branch. Don't know how long u have bn earning #450k monthly but 2million is just too small to resign for and start a business, not unless you have a full proof biz. Look at it, if you earn #450k monthly n ve only bn able to save 2M Oga ur mouth done wide well well/ your cost of running ur monthly affairs is high. If you resign now u can't sustain it and na Hypertension/ high blood pressure go kill you. Not unless u mean u ve saved 20million. For now save more, move closer to d new Branch and try start a biz u ve passion for and see how it runs and if it is sustainable. Pray Well well ( very important). GOD Almighty will direct you. 1 Like 1 Share |

2 million naira and run to Canada? That one alone may not buy their( father and kids) flight tickets. Many things are involved to migrate to a place like Canada. namo77: 2 Likes |

Hope you've saved a lot of money before thinking of plunging into the business arena? I say this because running a business is not a small thing o. So you really need to be prepared and you must have done your feasibility studies very with regards to the nature of the type of business(es) you really wanna go into. Good luck. |

catfrog10: You are right. Except that Igbos don't really "decide" on Businesses earlier on in life (i.e. most of the time). in many cases it's Circumstancial. Typically young people from poor backgrounds are attached to "masters" as apprentices. Some of these young chaps wouldn't have toed that line if their parents had the means. They probably would have gone to school much longer. People don't launch businesses in their 30s/40s due to fears and risk averseness. Usually stemming from tight budgets and Suppressed curiosity. I see daily how the Nigerian society conditions us to live above our means almost without thinking about it. This single habit alone cause a lot of us not to have any/little savings up to our late 40s (since most our Salaries aren't that much to start with). Little savings means little room to try "something" else(other than a 9-5) and this almost certainly seals our entrepreneurial fate till, well, death. 3 Likes 1 Share |

One of my church brother was transferred from PH to Lagosin his work place but refused to go and resigned cos he felt he had made some savings. Just less than a year he is finding it hard to survive with his large family. He used part of his savings to buy a Toyota Camry for commercials but he is not finding the whole thing working the way he thought. Don't be Hasty!! Think we'll B4 u quit your job! 1 Like 2 Shares |
Re: Should I Resign My Good Bank Job And Start A Business? by Actuarydeji(m): 11:21pm On Jun 01, 2020 |
Before you consider quitting your job in this time you need to ask yourself the following questions; 1. What kind of business I am venturing into? 2. Will the business meet the daily needs of my target audience? 3. Is the environment compatible with the kind of business I need to do? 4. What is the ROI on the business after 6 months? 5. Can I combine my present job with my personal business? 6. The forecasted profit will it be up to or closer to what I am earning in the next one year? 7. Do I have deep knowledge about what I am investing my resources into? If you can answer the above listed questions correctly, I think you're good to go. Mind you, I do both. Thanks Kind Regards ActuaryDeji tosinntoyin: 1 Like |
