dayokanu: So, I finally got around to watching the above. Hmmph! That is not Hip Hop. This is the real deal. Never mind the "trendy" outfits, the sucky video concept or the video vixens; just listen to the RHYMES. Over the next several days I will give you some more tutorial on the history of Rap. Okay, buddy? Rappers' Delight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-MEL84yXh0&feature=related The Message. It was actually written by a middle-aged woman. hehehe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4o8TeqKhgY Live performance. How many of the new ones can do it that well? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN9-K0aZXRg Public Enemy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PaoLy7PHwk Same as above, but Rosie Perez is a machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDgPeJBHuUM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHLnv--a9kA Rob Base: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IBRbzf3Fws&feature=related Eric B and RAKIM. That's all you need to know. All roads lead back to Rakim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPfIIn5V_LQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFOeJOtq_xc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95gP3m-uBHA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TN-kDEKxF0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y1Emb7Jyks (You'll like this one) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7t8eoA_1jQ P.S. I just wanted to add that, I've always seen a similarity between early rap and Yoruba and other African traditional praise-singing. Others have made the connection, so you may even have the same view. For me, I just see how the early rappers stand in front of a crowd, battle with other rappers, praising themselves, boasting, all the braggadocio, the rhyming, and compare it to the Griots, or the person you hire to say your oriki - I forget what they're called in Yoruba. Music historians probably have differing view and can back up their theories intellectually. For me, it's almost primal - instinctive - when I watch them, I'm thinking: "this is (an extension of) Yoruba/African culture." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWlYf1G5Lig |

naijababe: fstranger3: It will be extremely disappointing if Obama does not have Tu Pac playing all day In the Oval office and all over the White house. Tu pac's songs are motivational, It will be a stoopid waste of resources if that Brotha is trying to preside over America without inspiration It's like me ruling Nigeria without some conc. Ijala and Ewi songs playing in Aso Rock! |

Oga Kilode c/o Nairaland The Interweb Dear Oga Kilode, Re: your location, "Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest - Diderot." Are you an anti-monarchist? We await your response. Respectfully, Isale Gangan (Miss) From the office of the Oba of Lagos |

Kilode?!: King of what? Cyberspace? Where is your palace? Who crowned you? Where is your kingdom? Choose your words carefully, earthling. I am sure you are well aware of the punishment for blasphemy. If that doesn't stick, we can charge you with treason. How about inciting a revolution? Gone are the days when we would do oro in Isale-Eko and pick up wayward individuals deemed a threat to the survival of the kingdom. I don't have to tell you what became of them. |

Dont be too sure those days are gone, may be they are lot more discreet these days. We dont know what happened to lots of those missing people. heard rumors that they still bury dead kings with living men (bodyguards), that must escort him to 'aja'. Hope the rumor is untrue sa. |
Re: Buzugee/Nairaland, So I Want To Talk About Living Abroad by Kilode1: 6:04am On Feb 14, 2011 |
isale_gan2: HAHAHA Isale eko Princess, You are not making a good case for Kings with all those threats. See why I agree that men will not be free until we wrap the neck of kings with the entrails of their usurper priests? I'm not sure if this was said by Orunmila;Ori la ba bo, a ba f'orisa sile. ~We ought to worship our individual heads(destiny) and leave the gods or divinity aside~ ^^^^^^ Read that Proverb again! I don't think the greatest philosophers of western liberal societies can come up with a more profound statement in support of freedom, liberty and individualism. Now, if the wisdom of my ancestors coupled with those of the Orisas can utter that, why should I give my freedom and liberty over to some King or priest? Why should I fear an ordinary Igbakeji Orisa, when my Ori is more important than the Orisa himself? I decide my destiny, and if the king or priest won't let me do that freely, I will determine theirs BTW "kings" = all Monarchs, Presidents, Prime-ministers, even your boss at work I kinda guess you are spoiling for a philosophical fight, be careful what you wish for, I'm very formidable j/k |
