** There is no shortest or longest day in Nigeria because Nigeria is close to the equator. Close to the equator the days (daylight in a day) are about same length all year round.

** June solstice (called Summer Solstice in Nothern Hemisphere, and Winter solstice in Southern Hemisphere) is the longest day of the year ONLY IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE; it is the shortest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.

**December Solstice (called Winter Solstice in Nothern Hemisphere, and Summer Solstice in Southern Hemisphere) is the longest day of the year in the Southern hemisphere and the shortest day of the year in the Nothern hemisphere.

**On June Soltice there is 24hr daylight (“midnight sun”) at the North Pole (Arctic Circle), while South Pole (Antarctica) experiences 24hr darkness. Reverse is the case on December solstice.

Lalasticlala, Seun and the mods, I respectfully suggest you remove that other thread. Otherwise it continues to misinform and confuse lots of people, and gives the false impression that Nairaland is a willful purveyor of misinformation and fake news.

I actually read the other thread and got into a whole lot of confusion cause June 20 was just like every other day here in Enugu. Before 7pm, darkness already set in.

I tell u my brother. It just confuses and misinforms, and for what?! Seun, Lalasticlala, mods, there are many young people like myself on this forum. It is quite unfair to willfully have us confused by a thread full of misinformation. It only tarnishes Nairaland as a forum where u can’t believe anything u read, a forum that propagates misinformation and fake news!
