Why Did Lindaikeji Social Fail? by Uchenaija: 7:22am On Aug 07, 2020 |
I have been trying to Google an answer to this but there seems to be no valid points I can find. I know they're good heads in nairaland, so please let me hear what you guys think. In my own view I'd say it's clear the business model cannot be sustained, but I can't validate that claim. On some of the research she blames the developers for the failure. I say she just want to save face nailing it on developers. So the business gurus let me know what to y'all think, what is the real reason LindaIkeji Social failed? Modified: I think this link might help explain Linda Ikeji social better, although article didn't point really what made it fail https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pulse.ng/news/linda-ikeji-social-what-happened-to-the-social-network-one-year-after/p3jjsme.amp |

She failed to Innovate and improve, always depending on her blog to dish out gossips while other people were building their brands on Instagram and Twitter world..... Now Instablog9ja has overthrown her..... Nobody wants to visit blog to read news.... Rather twitter or Instagram nowadays 1 Like |

fashrola: I get your point: she ain't innovative enough. But she innovated and failed. Why did she fail in her innovation? Do we say she innovated the wrong? Are we saying Instagram and Twitter is the new way? Can we say Instagram and Twitter is a strong foundation to build on? |

Uchenaija:She's not creative, she doesn't have source. Instablog has a lot of sources in almost all celebrity camps. Lindaikeji gets her politics news from punch, foreign from TMZ and the rest from Instagram and the few celeb gists she posts are blatant lies that's why she has a lot of lawsuit on her ass |

sodiqapril: now this is eye opening to me. i understand your reason for the blog being outpowered by instablog competition, but is that the same reason linda ikeji social failed? I mean like the social is different from the blog, you know right? |

Uchenaija: Which innovation did she make? Did you visit the website then? Which social media network out there will be asking you to login through Facebook, Twitter, or other SMs? Also, If I remember correctly, the website is based on Blogger or WordPress. Not custom code. If you ask me, I think she don't really have any business plan to make the social network succeed, she probably thought her influence and name is enough to build up the SM brand. Later, she started offering people 1k to be the first to submit a gist on the website. There's nothing innovative about what she did. Assuming you visited the website then, you'll understand better. |

Ayemileto: I think I get your angle. For a tech savvy person there was no innovation. I clearly remembered going to the website, I even had an account there. I was clearly dissapointed with the design & functionality considering the noise it has pulled. However, as a lady she might not have in-depth tech knowledge, for a lady that came from a foundation. The tech guy that handled the work must have bobo her into siphoning lots of money from her due her inexperience. That said, she must have felt she was the best thing after sliced bread, that is why it carried the noise that came with it. In her eyes it must have been the greatest innovation. Nonetheless, I believe success in business is not always about the innovation. A lot of internet business started with a wack launched idea but once the users key in, the story changed. So personally I'll fault the business model. The marketing strategy worked, at least we saw crowd of users in a day, more than Instagram can boast of in its first day. The retention didn't flow afterwards. Talking about her model, she based retention based on giving things out to her users. So I'd say it was her business model that failed. That's my humble opinion. It cannot stand the test of things. How many advertisers can pay enough to feed the hungry mass of Nigerian users? I might be wrong anyway. 1 Like |

One of the problems is that she just had to name it after herself. Rather than use a cool catchy name. Who wants to leave Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nairaland to go on a "Linda Ikeji Social" 5 Likes

She achieved initial success by accident. She never had a plan. The social media business never stood a chance. The name just didn't connect |
