One of the popular methods of family planning is the injectable contraception, It works by releasing the hormone progesterone into the bloodstream to prevent pregnancy.

Injectable contraceptives are Depo- Provera, Noristerat, and Sayana press.

Sayana Press is a new form of depo- provera and works in the same way, but is meant for the client to know how to administer and do it for themselves at home.

How it Works:

The contraceptives thicken the cervical mucus, which makes it difficult for sperm to move through the cervix and thins the lining of the womb so a fertilized egg is less likely to implant itself

How it is Administer:

Depo Provera and Noristerat injection are usually taken in your bottom, but you can also have them in your upper arm.

But Sayana Press is administered in your tummy (abdomen) or thigh and you will be taught to do this at home.

You can have the injection at any time during your menstrual cycle as long as you're not pregnant.

What you should know:

1. It's very useful and advisable for women who find it difficult to remember to take oral pills at the same time every day.

2. Your monthly period may become irregular, heavier, shorter, lighter, or stop completely.

3. It's not affected by other medicine

4. If used correctly, the contraceptive injection is more than 99% effective

5. It lasts for about 8 to 12 weeks in the body depending on which injection you're taken.
