Richard Ihetu, popularly known as Dick Tiger, was a professional boxer from Nigeria. Tiger developed an interest in boxing in the late 1940s. Sometimes, he would train with some British military officers back home in Nigeria.
In 1952, Tiger began boxing professionally in Nigeria. Subsequently, he won the Nigerian Middleweight Championship (NMC) title. In 1955, he relocated to England and moved to the United States later on.
As an international boxer, Tiger won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Middleweight title, World Light Heavyweight Championship, among others. Over his boxing career, Tiger competed in a total of 81 professional matches out of which he won 61, lost 17, and drew 3.
Dick Tiger served as a Lieutenant in the Biafran Army during the Nigerian civil war. As a professional boxer, he trained Biafran soldiers to wrestle. Consequently, Tiger was laid off by the Nigerian government due to his complicity in the Biafran movement. Later on, Dick Tiger returned to New York. At this time, Tiger had lost all he had in the civil war.
