ALLIANCE OF THE SOUTH & MIDDLE BELT HAS BROKEN THE FULANI HEGEMONY OVER THE REST OF NIGERIA – says Tola Adeniyi

Chief Tola Adeniyi spares with the State Affairs host on the vexatious subject of Fulani irredentism and what to do with this ethnic minority which believes that its aristocracy is born to rule over the rest of Nigeria eternally. Chief Adeniyi’s eye-popping expose on the Fulani helped to correct some erroneous understanding pertaining to this ethnic nationality that seeks to establish hegemonic rule over all parts of Nigeria. The Fulani, a semi-nomadic pastoral culture, got a foothold within the territorial space of today’s Nigeria 200 years ago when the radical Islamist cleric, Uthman Dan Fodio, waged a war of jihad that overthrew the Hausa kingdoms of the Far Northwest. With the banner of Islam expansionism, the Fulani-led jihadists systematically subdued and enslaved the indigenous peoples of Middle Belt Nigeria.

On the balance, Britain’s creation of colonial Nigeria was a major boost to the Sokoto Islamic Caliphate and the Fulani aristocracy that dominates it. The British colonial rule in Nigeria brokered an agreement that conceded all administrative rights over Northern Nigeria to the feudal Sokoto Caliphate as long as suzerain rights over the territory remained with imperial Britain. Under decades of colonial rule, the Sokoto Caliphate was able to extend its tentacles into all parts of the North, Middle Belt and beyond. At 1960 Independence, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, was confident enough to declare that the entire country is the estate of his great grandfather, Uthman Dan Fodio. He proceeded to enunciate the Fulani irredentist mantra on how to govern Nigeria and manage the destinies of the country’s constituent parts in ways that amplify the dreams of Islamization and Fulanization.

President Buhari envisioned himself as the latest bearer of the Uthman Dan Fodio flag of Fulani irredentism and supremacy. Many knowledgeable pundits have summed up the Buhari presidency as the executive machine for imposing and fostering Islamization and Fulanization throughout Nigeria. Adoption of jihadist tactics of ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt, mass killing of indigenous inhabitants and religious persecution spell terror in the minds of millions of Nigerians. There is now a backlash against the Fulani. They are increasingly being disdained and resented for being the beneficiary of the misgovernance of a country that has become so hellish for millions.

Chief Adeniyi harnesses this sentiment as he systematical dissects the Fulani and the ethnic nationality’s place in Nigeria’s future. The choices before the irredentist Fulani, under the unfolding circumstances, are binary; they can prepare themselves to fight to the last man or utilize the fast-shrinking window of opportunity to negotiate as equal partners. Until a clear choice is made, the future in which the Orkarization of Nigeria is a possibility looms larger in the minds of many. As long as the South and the Middle Belt remain unified in their current stance, Chief Tola Adeniyi is right by asserting that the Fulani hegemony in Nigeria is DEAD.

The new normal is that now the POWER belongs to South and Middle Belt.

No longer to Arewa.

Let's get that into our heads!

Let's broadcast this new normal.

Let those cowards from the South and Middle Belt who whenever we say what will rid us of these killer Arewa begin to quake and say: North will not let us. To these silly babies we say: Shut up!
