SophiaLisa: Hello Ladies,

God bless you all now and in advance!

Biko I need clarification.

My SIL wants to deliver in the USA. We have relatives in New York and we specified their address as where we (my SIL, my Bro and I) will be staying pending her delivery and afterwards.

We have been in contact with NY hospitals such as Mount Sinai, Montefiore and St. John's Episcopal but they only sent bills and there has been no other mail from them even after my continuous calls and follow up emails.

Truth be told, their prices are HIGH from as USD$10, 963 to USD$22,600.

Well, since they stopped responding, we called around some affordable hospitals like Mercy Medical Centre, St Charles Hospital, Lincoln Hospital and Bronx Lebanon Hospital but they all said that they do not send email correspondences and only attend to clients who come in for physical tests.

Thankfully, through Nairaland and the wonderful contributors, DoctoresParati is the best bet in terms of cost, customer service and feedback.

However, it is in Dallas Texas! sad

Now my question is this: How do we convince the Visa Officer at the Lagos embassy that we are staying in NY but will have the baby in Texas? Please reply abeg. The interview is in TWO Weeks!!!

God Bless you all immensely!!!!

Its simple. tell the visa office the truth i.e your major place of stay will be NY while the birthing city/hospital is in Texas. All you have to do is to make contact with doctores parati and get an appointment confirmed, book accommodation for the period you think you will leave NY for Texas. If asked why are you not using any hospital in NY, simply state that Doctores para ti meet your family budget for the birthing. hope this helps

Let other experienced gurus contribute!

Hello all,

I have been reading from page 1, unfortunate for the loss of the 150 pages whew. I wonder the wealth of info that was lost. I have found this thread to be amazing. Exactly what I was looking for when I searched.

I will like to ask your views and reasons to this question, I am not being critical or anything like that. Just thinking: why we would want to go through the lot of trouble giving birth in the US?. My fear is just that, like the UK, the Americans can wake up one day with a law that will clamp down on citizens not living in the US, then the heartache would start because our hopes of benefiting in the future will be ended.

I had my first child in the US and am making plans to do it again, so I am not biased.

Would love to hear your opinions.

I guess this will be appreciated if started as a post on it's own. People come here for info on birthing procedure in the USA and pages and pages of "reason" will only take space..IMO, please start another thread for people to air their views... I really don't want to be going through pages of reading why mothers and fathers as well will go through the stress. To each, his own. We live by the consequences of the choices we make!

Hello house,

my mum wants to apply for her visa as well to come n stay with me. she will be sponsoring her trip. she is very well educated. she has not been to the US before but she is a frequent traveler. what do you think her purpose for traveling is?
i am thinking if she says for vacation, she will need to provide an invitation letter as well as a proof of where she will be staying right?
if she also says she is coming to stay with her daughter who is having a baby she will need my visa page, and letter from the hospital as well as accommodation reservation.

please which do you think is more feasible to use?

Hello Amash, I live in Abuja and I used Federal Staff Hospital Jabi Airport Road. It's really affordable but my dear d crowd na die oh. I normally leave the house for my antenatal by 5:30am and get there latest 6:00am but have never been number 1. D earliest I av been is number 6. D earliest time I av left the hospital is 12noon. So if u r up to d stress once in a month then u can use their
Services. D hospital is extremely neat.

Every antenatal u pay 500naira for consultation and 700naira for PCV and urine. After 28weeks u r required to pay 30k for delivery fee whether u wud deliver there of not. As long as u attend antenatal there u must pay it or they won't attend to u.

I hope this info helped.

My own opinion, they should clamp down if they like, as long as my baby has the blue pali, when she reaches 18 she will go and fight for her right! grin

Hello All,

Its nice to be back here again after so long. I had my first child in the US. I went on a B1/B2 visa class and said i was going on vacation at the interview because I hadn't thought about going to deliver in the US. Fast forward to this year, I went to renew my 1 year visa and I was denied *sadface*. Infact, I am still in shock. I applied this time with my husband who has never traveled to the US but has traveled to South Africa. We told the interviewer we want to go on vacation in September and then to have a baby next year.
The interviewer asked the following questions:
Q: Have you had a valid visa? A: Yes and I showed him my old passport
Q: When did you get married? A: This year gave him specific date
Q: Where do you and your husband work? A: told him
Q: Do you have a child? A: Yes
Q: Why are you not applying for a US visa for him? A: Because he is a US citizen
Q: He requested to see receipts for my first baby's delivery A: I showed him all
Q: What state are you going to stay? A: told him

Next thing he says is unfortunately your visa has been denied *bla bla*. Am thinking of re-applying on maybe medical grounds alone without my husband and saying am travelling with my mum who has a valid US visa. I am confused and need your suggestions and recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Most Arizona mums I've met, usually have the father of the baby notarize the consent form for the US passport at the US Embassy in Nigeria and sent via courier to them.
However if the dad will be with you at your passport appointment, this would not be necessary. Hope that helps.

Ma'am I may not be able to fully explain the VO's mind but some facts don't connect in your application.

1.When you applied initially, you didn't tell the VO you were going for birthing so it's not on their record that your son is American . You just married this year, were you divorced? VO's don't like shocks and they don't like to be made a fool.

2. You were given a 1 year visa, how come giving birth is an afterthought?. It seems you were pregnant before your interview but intentionally hid that fact.

3. It seemed as if you answered all the questions for your husband that may not sit right with the VO. That makes your husband seem like a dependant hence your entire family may decide to migrate with this visa especially now that you have an American son.

My conclusion is that you sowed doubts in the VO'S mind. If you want to give birth ensure you have all the documents and open up on your medical plans at the embassy don't muddle it up by saying vacation this year and medical next year there is nothing like that. The VO will probably love to see your appointment letter, budget and account statements for the medicals. Cheers

Hi, so like you did, many other people too, say that they don't have any relatives in the US and I don't think its a crime. But if you plan to stay with ur uncle, that's fine, but I'll advise you book a short stay and tell them you'll be staying there, and when you get to your uncle's place, cancel the booking. Its safer option. But on a lighter note, what if out of the blues, you win $1,000,000 and they go looking for you at the stay, only to find out yiu were nevr there? Lol, just thinking aloud...wink

Don't worry, you should be just fine.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hi everybody again. As I wrote before, my husband and I had interview in US Embassy in Malaysia. My husband is under administrative checking, because he is IT - specialist. I was half-denied ...It's difficult explain..or not denied )))) Immigration officer wrote me that I have to bring another proof of payment. I'm under husband sponsoring and he has just 4 russian bank accounts, no malaysian. So I was invited for second interview. We transferred money in the local account and I was ready to bring that proof of payment.

Today I came there and officer just ask me,
- tell me honest why do you want deliver baby in USA.
- First, that in Asia they do c section and I'm scare to deliver here. I have one kidney, on the right side I have scarp of surgery. I don't want to cut me again. (it's truth)
- there are a lot of western countries, may be do you have another reason?
- we'll try to give american citizenship
- so it's main reason
- we have two reasons (and I smile )))))
- Its ok, no problem. We 'll process your visa and still wait husband result.

So, if they will ask you directly about REASON. I think it's not a problem to say about citizenship. I see he understands it perfect.
All his question he was asking with some sort of smile.

More over, he didn't ask any documents. I think he wrote that paper to me on the first interview just to delay time.
But I forced him to take paper from my job with a salary )))) I didn't gave local bank account

sooo... and we...We just have to wait results.

Someone mentioned him on this thread and i checked the hospital website and his practice was listed. Their staff are friendly and prompt and i am quite comfortable with the reviews iv gotten about him so far. Give it a shot. Cheers.

Thank you very much Tvegas. You've provided useful insight, guess I didn't see the interview in the light you did. I got my first visa without the intention to give birth as I decided much later after I had the visa. I got married to my fiance after our first child.

To apply on medical grounds, do I have to fill medical reasons in my ds-160 form and also get a letter from my Nigerian hospital? I am worried that the next VO will ask me why I did not apply on medical grounds the first time I was denied.

Once again, thank you very much for your response. Still look forward to hearing from other people as well.
