I am making this thread specifically to address the Igbo liars who in another similar thread claimed that it was Gowon and not Ironsi that dismantled the regional government structure and in place ushered in a Marxist Centrist forced unity one Nigeria with Igbos overly represented.

On February 21 1966, General Aguiyi-Ironsi again addressed the nation on the issue. He said: “On the question of the political future of the country, the experiences and mistakes of the previous governments in the Federation have clearly indicated that far-reaching constitutional reforms are badly needed for peaceful and orderly progress towards the realization of our objectives. I have already touched on some of the major issues involved in recent broadcast to the nation. It has become apparent to all Nigerians that rigid adherence to ‘regionalism’, was the bane of the last regime and one of the main factors which contributed to its downfall. No doubt, the country would welcome a clean break with the deficiencies of the system of government to which the country has been subjected in the recent past. A solution suitable to our national needs must be found. The existing boundaries of governmental control will need to be re-adjusted to make for less cumbersome administration.’

The decree that saw to this was decree 34 which was passed by Ironsi only two days after the assassination of Tafa Belewa.

That decree was already pre-written long before the Igbo coup and had all the aspirations of the Marxist, Nnamdi Azikiwe's outlook for Nigeria.

This decree was only made public in May of that same year .

From all indications Nzeagwu did not act alone. He and his fellow Igbo officers carried out the military action on behest of Azikiwe , Igbo inteligensia of the time and Ironsi.

While Nzeagwu was to pave the way for an Igbo Marxist centrist dictatorship by killing off Belewa and other regional heads sparing Igbo leaders and non Igbo senior officers in the army Ironsi was to forefully push for the Igbo centric rule via military decree fiat.

If Murtala had not struck, Zik would have later been sworn in as executive president in a highly rigged transition election to civilian rule. With the Sarduna, and Akintola dead and Awolowo in prison, Zik would have emerged unchallenged .


This was the Igbo plan to seize power for themselves.

Even the card carrying member of the British Communist party, Lt Col Ojukwu as then Military Governor of the eastern region was the only out of 4 MILADS to openly welcome the announcement of decree 34.

The governors of Northern and Midwestern region were short of words when asked to comment and stated that if true, then this will lead to a dismantling ot Nigeria. Why were they kept in the dark on this decree?

The Igbos who dominated the eastern house did all they could to frustrate a minority report and motion on the floor calling for a plebescite .

This is why Chief Eyo Ita was forced by the Igbo majority to resign and in his place Zik took over and shut down any talk of the Niger Delta leaving the eastern region.

The minorities then headed to the national Parliament to fight their cause and had gotten the backing of both the north, western and mid western region.

But Igbo greed was stirred with the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in the Niger Delta and they wanted to control it by all means just as they had been exploiting the minorities of their resources.

1) Gowon inherited 4 Regions, he left 12 states

It becomes clear to even a primary school kid that the person who destroyed Regionalism and true federalism was Gowon.

Ironsi's decree 34 only standardised the civil service, and that in its self has little or nothing to do with true federalism

No.Infact what attracted me to Nzeogwu at the early stage when the coup was being planned was that I asked him if he was going to make himself the Head of State and he said no. He said he was going to bring a civilian who was more knowledgeable and who had what it took to make Nigeria great. I then asked him who that person was and he said the man was in Calabar prison. I said is it Chief Obafemi Awolowo? He said yes. That was why I gave him my support but when he told me it was going to involve killings, I said no I was not interested again.

Nigerian Politicians Corruption no start today. I think it was Zik who was implicated in a corruption scandal in 57' that made Ambazonia decide to join Cameroon instead of Nigeria.

And that is just one example. The vacation trip that he was on when the Coup happened was also routine for Nigerian Politicans.
