I hate it when a set of people will decide to commit suicide due to ego. Now let's face facts:

1. North claims to have up to 100 million people.
2. There are only few industries.
3. Very little commerce.
4. Very little or no IT penetration.
5. The region has very little storage facilities.
6. The region relies basically on agriculture.
7. 87% of Northerners are living in abject poverty.
8. Millions in the region are currently displaced and starving.

Check the facts above and tell me if this guys are not suicidal. It takes a matter of days for perishables like tomatoes, onions, cucumber etc to go to waste. So, how are the majority of Northerners who rely on proceeds from agriculture going to survive?

For Southerners, let's look at the facts below:

1. A man with money who couldn't afford to buy cow meat can decide to buy pork, fish, goat, 404, or chicken etc.

2. A woman that wants to cook stew can decide to use only tin/canned tomatoes, use very little or even no onions, use factory processed oil etc and still cook a delicious stew! On the alternative, Igbo people have a stew they call ofe akwu, a stew that is delicious and nutritious that is cooked basically with palm oil.

3. Plaintains, yams, cassava, cocoyam, vegetables etc are produced in the South and these are the staple foods consumed in most parts of the South.

In this scenario above between Southerners and Northerners, who are the ones going to suffer more with the so-called food embargo?

There has been claims that these foods are being moved to neighbouring countries, but smart people know that's a big lie! Which neighbouring countries please? Benin to our West are even looking for who will buy theirs, Cameroun to our East have enough locally grown foods for them and with a relatively small population can't buy up to 5% of what the North is selling! To our North we have not just two of the world's poorest countries in Chad and Niger but they also have tiny population that can't buy up to 5% of what is grown in Northern Nigeria, so who are the ones buying??

The North already has 87% poverty rate which is among the worst in the world, what is currently going on could make an already terrible situation to spiral out of control.

Your facts are ok

But your piece sounds like a negotiation

At this point I think I’ll start posting foods that can be cooks with only ingredients found in the south

Especially without onions

The North knows what they're doing.
But go to Lusada, you'd find what the North refused to bring down there.
So the North did not only declare a separation, they already shot themselves in the legs and hands.

Their herdsmen came down to the South, destroying farms and killing farmers. The North was silent about it. But they valued their own farms over there. Now, the North stopped food supplies to the South, expecting the South to die or get weakened of hunger?

These things are just tactical methods of warfare. It worked in the 1967-1970 civil war.

What is the assurance that there won't be a battle strike if the hunger should arise in the South? So look beyond the stoppage of food supplies. The North is already calling for battle.

You can hardly hear from any of them about resource control. The farmers will start going against the so called union because they are loosing out big time and they have no means of diversity in business.

During the food blockade by Northern farmers:

— In Kaduna: A "waste bin" basket of tomatoes crashed from 8K to N150. Yet no buyers. [PunchNg]

— In Kano (Gun-Dutse): bag of Onions frm N35k to N7k. [DailyTrust]

— In Minna(Garatu): Kwarai of feet size yam tubers from 45k to 18k
—In Jos (Barkin Ladi, Anpam West), bag of Irish potatoes from N17K to N9k. [UnityFm Jos]

—In Kano: farmers went to d extent of unsuccessfully trying to use the airport to move food down south. [Nairaland]

—In Abuja: the DSS was inviting herders to settle the issue (DailyTrust)
—In Bauchi (Til De Fulani), farmers were promoting unity (North & South)

—On some media, Millions were lost to food transported to other countries frm North.

At the end, the Northerners who singlehandedly declared the blockade, called it off.

They gloriously lost the war!

May God punish the DeadVultureMeatBbqGrill proprietor and his lineage. It shall never be well with sycophants and those who without shame turn the truth on it head, because of mere morsel of bread.

If you know you're the one, do well to report me to the mods for another round of banning. Bastards!

Hausas are naturally docile and that is why Fulanis have been able to rout them totally. Fulanis are mainly cattle rearers while Hausas are mostly farmers. Now, while Fulanis can afford to hold their cattle for an extended period of time without incurring significant losses, Hausas on the other hand are currently losing hundreds of millions of naira with each passing day.

Any farm produce that gets rotten is forever lost! If they had storage facilities where they can keep them and wait, it would have made sense but they don't have! These farm produce are moved from farms to central markets where they are bought by middlemen and loaded into trucks coming down South.

So if the middlemen can't buy the farm produce it means the farmers will watch their sweat and hard labour go to waste, again the middlemen too can't pay millions only to watch their money perish, also the lorry owners too (mostly owned by Hausas) will also incur loses and possible damage to their packed vehicles.

If this continues for a while longer, I see the Northern economy losing billions of naira, and for a region that is already suffering massive poverty and insecurity, the effect can only be imagined.

Wahala is when your supposed enemy is advising you with so much loving care and concern about your welfare & livelihood cheesy

The union chairman already said they're ready to bear the losses as its a small price to pay compared to their dear lives.

So why all this appealing, explanation & begging to reason with you? Why not reason with them since you're so concerned about their welfare and condition of their goods?
