Have You Ever Lost A Job Due To Your Tribe by Lyrics269: 4:59am On Mar 08, 2021
My friend went to this job interview in Lagos and after passing through all the steps. The manager told him that his results were good but that they don't employ Igbo people in the organization because of the nasty experience they once had with an igbo employee. My friend was shocked and very depressed.

This your topic is real and needs addressing.

I wanted to share my experiences - had and heard

But I figured that the thread will become tribalistic, biased, volatile, heated and painful memories will once again arise, once people start sharing their experiences. Some did not lose the job but are being denied promotion, or being harmed in ways so they quit themselves, or being denied what others of that tribe are benefiting.

The Bible said in Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: Proverbs 6:19 a false witness who gives false testimony, and one who stirs up discord among brothers.

Stay well
@ op your friend will get a better job this month in Jesus name, amen. But tell him I said that he should not repeat the evil he has received whenever he is such position to hire, but show to be a better person by never discriminating against any tribe, especially that tribe who rejected him. If not, he will become like they he condemns undecided

Most job loses can be attributed to loyalty issues. Even if another tribe, one you stick with the principalities firmly, forget it.

I dont know when this nonsense will stop. Because of nasty experience you had with one Igbo person, you immediately stereotyped all the igbos to be the same. It doesn't make sense to me, it's height of irrationality, and a lame excuse.

Smiles. I'm kin to SE. It's exactly why people should built healthy relationships with other people and not act irrationally. While there may be a claim on stereotypes, tribal hating and all, let's be objective that many times the igbo dude would act like to hell with it and goes all out to do and undo. This is what it always leads to... That attitude of I don't give a hoot and to hell with consequences. It's the exact attitude that makes people characterise the Igbos as people to be careful with. In this scenario, it's not tribal hating but what the average igbo man does.

Before anyone misconstrues my points. In all houses I've lived in, I've conducted myself so peaceable and gentle that mu landlords even friends all looked for people from my tribe to get involved with. Why? Their experiences from dealing with me. Close to 4 friends got married to people from my tribe because of how how interconnected with me and how I impressed on them. Regardless of what happens in all the houses I lived in, nothing touches me. In the village I have projects setup, people love me from the entrance of the city into the interiors

My dear, tell igbos to stop the to hell attitude and work on building good relations with people. There are thousands of such stories above. It's not tribal hating, it's the igbotic attitude

Back to topic. Op...this is very normal with yorubas. I can bet about a thousand dollars that the company is a yoruba company. Did I lie? As an Igbo man, you must deal with yorubas with a very very very long spoon for your peace of mind. Watch what GTbank is doing to innosson.
Watch how they turned end SARS to an Igbo bashing movement. Remember how they turned Abiola's loss to an opportunity to loot Igbo businesses? Have you forgotten how they labeled GEJ an igbo man to rouse hate against him?
Be careful with them simple

My project will be fully set up within a year I will also be careful with igbo appointments.

If igbos continues to see things as people hate them rather than infer rational lessons, there can't be behavioral improvement and betterment of the soul. It would pay you to listen to the counsel I raised. One side of me is from SE yet I dare to say what I say and stand by it.

It depends on what he means by nasty experience. What I've found and observed is that human beings are biased by nature. When we are biased towards certain things we are intolerant towards those things and will jump on the slightest opportunity to attack, amplify and criticise. Meanwhile we will give excuse after excuse, rationalise and show understanding towards those things that we are tolerant about, which are usually things/people that look, sound, and share similar culture/ideology with us. Look at what happened to Meghan Markle in the British Royal family? They were more or less low-key aggressive and unaccommodating to her. Obviously they are now having a nasty experience with her which might lead to them unofficially deciding that they will never allow or encourage any person of colour marrying into the family in the future. But is what they are going through now even a quarter of what they went through with princess Diana? NO. Did they decide that they will never allow a white English upper class woman marry into the royal family because of a nasty experience they experienced in the past? NO. Did they put the problems they had with Diana down to Diana herself and not her race? YES. And why? Because she is one of them hence they take a different view and more tolerant.

As far as I'm concerned the Igbo guy should actually thank his God that he didn't end up in that company because he would have seen shege there.

Then why did they now shortlist him for the interview when they knew they wouldn't employ him?

I don't even want to believe his story.

The guy was shortlisted despite his tribe. How then could he be rejected because of his tribe?

It's not just about tribe. Same way Nigerians are being denied jobs outside their border because they are Nigerians and blacks being denied cuz they are blacks. It is what the world is.

Stereotype is a norm in the world today sadly. Do your best at telling people to be at their best always cuz what they do today might make or mar someone else tommorrow. Few Nigerians are fraudsters but collectively we are all reaping the after effect.

But let's be honest Igbo people too get wahala too much.... The problem one Igbo man gave my landlord in my former house made that landlord stop renting house to Igbos... This is not about tribalism or something I think the company action to that was maybe because they had a bad experience with an employee..igbo people should learn how to comport and should learn how to relate well with other tribes..

He could be telling the truth. I know of someone that lost a job opportunity because he's a Muslim. Right there at the interview he was asked which church he attends. He told them he's not a Christian and the interviewers immediately told him that they don't want anything to do with Muslims in their company and his services won't be needed. He pointed to them that his CV has his Muslim name, they told him they felt he was a Muslim that converted to Christianity but kept his Muslim name. He was already discouraged by the whole settings of the company (one man business) so he wasn't going to take the job anyways. Some one-man businesses give lots of ridiculous criteria for employment, one would think they treat their staff right for meeting up with all the criteria.

You tried so hard not to say what you've always wanted to say, but you eventually said it albeit.

You did well because you learned or grew up to do better and act nice. It doesn't mean someone else from your tribe will do the same.
This is what your education should've made you understand. But you can see that you didn't pass that aspect of understanding with flying colours.

These things happen. Growing up, my landlord was a Yoruba Muslim. We lived peacefully till we left. When we moved to our house, we rented to Yorubas, who lived peacefully too.

The idea of using one scenario to generalize is a tad unintelligent.
There're lots of Igbos and Yorubas living peacefully in Lagos. I lived in a Yoruba man and Hausa man's house too... In peace.
That I did it no mean sey make the other person do am. Orientations are different.

Stop the idea of using one scenario to do agenda. It's wrong. Totally.
