South African Patrice Motsepe has emerged new president of the Confederation of African football.

He replaces Ahmad of Madagascar who is currently serving a reduced ban for financial misconduct.

Motsepe was elected the continent’s football boss at CAF’s General Assembly which took place in Rabat, Morocco today (Friday).

The 59-years-old billionaire becomes the first Anglophone president in the 64-year history of CAF.

He will be assisted by Augustine Senghor of Senegal (1st Vice President), Ahmed Yahya of Libya (2nd Vice President) and Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi (3rd Vice President).

Also part of Motsepe’s assistants are Fouzi Lekjaa of Morocco (4th Vice President) and NFF president Amaju Pinnick (5th Vice President).

Seven Things You Need To Know About New CAF President, Patrice Motsepe

The emergence of South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe on Friday as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been seen as a welcome development for the game of football in Africa.

Currently, one of Africa’s richest men, Motsepe’s rise in prominence and wealth has not been lost on black people in a country where oppressive apartheid laws shut out the majority of the population from a good life, not to mention business opportunities, for many decades.

Just a few weeks ago, Motsepe, Ivorian Jacques Anouma, Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya and Senegalese Augustin Senghor were locked in an intriguing struggle for the presidency.

But the mantle of leadership has fallen on his feet and he’s expected to lead Africa football to success.

However, Completesports Highlights seven things you need to know about him.

1. The genesis of Motsepe’s gradual rise to stardom began when he was born to Kgosi Augustine Motsepe, chief of the Mmakau branch of the Tswana people, who had previously been a schoolteacher and who was later a small businessman as the owner of a Spaza shop which was popular with black mineworkers.

2. In 1994, he became the first black partner at law firm Bowman Gilfillan in Johannesburg and then started a mining services contracting business.

3. In 2016, he launched a new private equity firm, African Rainbow Capital, focused on investing in Africa.

4. The father of three also holds a degree in mining and business law from Johannesburg’s University of the Witwatersrand.

5. Motsepe also has a stake in Sanlam, a listed financial services firm.

6. With an estimated net worth of $3bn (£2.15bn), Motsepe is today a mining magnate, investor, owner and President of Pretoria-based Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won a record 10 titles since South Africa’s Premier Soccer League started in 1996.

7. Patrice Motsepe, the founder and chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, became a billionaire in 2008 – the first black African on the Forbes list.

NFF President Pinnick Elected Into FIFA Council

Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has been elected into the FIFA Council, Completesports.com reports.

Pinnick becomes only the second Nigerian – after Amos Adamu – elected into the Council of the world football governing body.

He was elected during CAF’s General Assembly which took place in Rabat, Morocco today (Friday).

Following several withdrawals prior to the elections, Pinnick and Malawi’s Walter Nyamilandu were the only two candidates left from the anglophone block.

Nick Mendwa, the President of the Kenya FA pulled out of the race on Friday morning.

Prior to Mwendwa’s decision, the two others in the race, Mwendwa was campaigning vigorously hoping to snatch the seat.

One of the biggest contender Andrew Kamanga of Zambia pulled out of the race two days ago to clear the path for Pinnick to swoop for his votes.

Also throwing in the towel was Wallace Karia of Tanzania who withdrew three ago.

So he is a businessman, not a footballer...or someone with footballing roots.

Okay....but we shall see. Still, for once no Hayatou or his allies is good enough for me.

Does not work that way....

1.Hayatou was chair of CAF for decades. Cameroon won some tournaments and lost a lot...and Cameroon at club level won only one AFCON champions league title in 2008 all throughout Hayatou's regime.

2.Hayatou's predecessor Tessema ....let's say that other African countries benefitted from his rule...his home country Ehtopia did not benefit much....

3.South Africa does not have a strong football system yet. Add the fact that SA players hardly make an impact abroad...compared to West and North African players...

Excellent.

This is good news for Africa. Isa Hayatoun is like Buhari that wanted the Islamisation of Africa Football Body.
The Jihadist wanted Muslims to keep controlling CAF without hinders

How can Madagascar muslim paedophile Ahmad Ahmad be our leader...?

they can choose to have 16, sadly nobody can do anything about it.
Unnecessary appointments, several disappointments.
