To Adopt LEGALLY in Nigeria, there are procedures. The truth is this: Adoption in Nigeria is relatively FREE. Read further to understand more about it. As a Nigerian in the diaspora.. Follow the steps below. Also inform your foundation about the steps to take as its crucial. This is only for Nigerians in the diaspora.

1) Submission of application letter to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Social Development in your state of choice.

2) Submission of all the required documents by prospective Adopters or through Foundation (including Home Study report and approval from the country of Domicile by appropriate authorities)

3) Administrative Processing by the Adoption Unit.

4) Payment of 130,000 Naira only as Administrative fees. The fee above is for those in diaspora applying in Lagos State. The fee may vary amongst states but mostly lower.

5) Processing of all Documents submitted for Honourable Commissioner's Approval.

6) Collection of Approval Letter by the Prospective Adopters/Foundation.

7) Notification of arrival of Prospective Adopters after a successful matching of child/children at the registered Orphanages.

cool Invitation of prospective Adopters with their updated documents through the foundation for the release of child/children for bonding .

9) Conducting bonding Assessment.

10) Interview with the Director Social Welfare

11) Legalization of the adoption at the family court.

The above are the procedure for adoption if you are a Nigerian living abroad but wish to adopt in Nigeria..

Please note: To obtain an adoption order, it takes a minimum of 12 calender months from the time of application. This is in accordance with the child right law of States in Nigeria.
