Tech giant Apple has finally released the highly anticipated iOS 14.5 and iPadOS for its iPhones and iPads respectively. The latest update from the company is significant in that it includes major privacy upgrades. Here’s everything we know, how to download and install on your device:

The new software, iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 allows you to unlock your iPhone using Face ID when wearing a facial mask, and you'll now have the option to stop apps from tracking you across the web and other apps. The upgrade is coming barely a week after Apple's first event of 2021, where the company announced new iPad Pro models, the Tile-like AirTag and multiple colors of iMacs.

As earlier mentioned, the newly released iOS 14.5 includes major privacy upgrades, at the heart of it is that third-party apps will now have to ask for your permission to access and share your data. Although some big companies have come out to criticize this new feature but Apple believes privacy is "one of the top issues of the century", so the company isn't bowing to any criticism.

Apple is also introducing two new voices for the English-language voice assistant, and, as first reported by TechCrunch, the assistant will no longer default to a female voice. The new iOS 14.5 also comes packed with tons of new and updated emojis to spice up your chats and messages.

How to Install iOS 14.5 on your iPhone
Installing the new iOS 14.5 update is as easy as installing any other software update, however, it is advisable to plug your device to a power source for charging and also connect to a Wi-Fi internet connection.

That said, on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select General.

3. Tap on Software Update.

Your device will connect to Apple's servers and prompt you to download and install the update. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When your device reboots, it will be running iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5.
