Good morning,

Please I need your assistance on how to go about this, please it's a long read, but I will try to summarise.

I purchased a car from overseas for a certain NA personnel. I gave him a time frame of arrival and also gave him tracking details, so he can as well know the movement of the vessel bearing his car.

The vessel delayed at the sea, they kept re-routing making the ETA to be extended. This was a situation beyond my control. I kept in touch with my contact who bought and shipped about the delays, he said he kept in touch with the shipping company and they apologised and said it's congestion they're experiencing. I as well contacted the shipping company by email and the told me same thing.

Thankfully after the delays, the container arrived mid April and I told the NA personnel that it will usually take a week to 2 weeks to conclude the clearing process, because of how the system is. But he won't have any of it. He said he wants his car out in maximum of 3days that he's sending someone to come pick it up. I told him it's not my power for the car to be cleared in that space of time and that before it's out i will give him a day or two's notice so the person can come.

My brothers and sisters since that day my life has been constantly threatened by men of the Nigerian Army. I had to go to the port last week Friday as they demanded for their car to come out that day. I showed up at least let them see where the clearing process has reached. The soldier sent down was to molest me coz he didn't want stories and just wanted the car, a certain man who is a supervisor at the longroom intervened and told the soldier that clearing process isn't straightforward and as fast as they are making it seem, that it takes a little time, that it's really not my fault that it's the system of which I've explained this to the buyer who doesn't want to listen.

The supervisor helped in printing out the documents through the information I gave him about the container bearing the car and we saw howfar the clearing process has gone and not that any delay game was been played.

Upon taking a closer look on the custom papers that have been printed out, i realized the NA personnel's car chassis number and year was different from the original year and chassis number of the car. So I called the attention of the agent who is clearing and my contact who shipped the car.

They looked at the bill of laden sent and saw that the error came from the shipping company.
My contact who shipped has contacted the shipping company and the correction is been worked on. But he was advised to let the container come out so it doesn't stay more days at the port as the clearing process has almost been completed. The duty has been paid and only to exit and release was left at that time. It took some more days for the truck to pick it up from the port to be offloaded at a designated location, because of the new call-up number that was introduced by NPA.

The truck was to offload yesterday, but encountered a problem and couldn't get to the location of offload. Infact because I was sure it will be offloaded yesterday I went there with my heavily pregnant wife and baby, with the intention of taking her to the hospital for antenatal since the container was scheduled to be offloaded in the morning.

While we were waiting, the agent told us the truck broke down. The soldier men came around yesterday and picked my family and I to the barracks, that I was a fraudster, no car and all sorts.

Now, the man we met at the port who came to my rescue when I was been molested said he can work on the correction of the custom papers with the sum of 400k Naira and the correction will be out in few hours. But I told him I don't have that kind of money and that he should please hold on as my contact has already start to work on it...

I'll have to stop here to say the reason I need assistance, now it seems the NA personnel has gone beyond my back to pay the 400k to this man and now wants me to pay him back when I've assured him that we've commenced the process. The coerced me to write an undertaking of paying of 100k for their running cost, 400k if my correction isn't genuine and ceased my car.

I wrote that I would only make payment of 400k if the correction I made isn't genuine.
And I also wrote on the undertaking that I will retrieve my car when I give them the car and the corrected custom paper bearing the correct car information.

I'm to pick the car today, but I have a very strong feeling they will come around to pick up the car and intimidate me to pay the 400k before they release my car.

Please what can I do? That wasn't I signed in the undertaking. They may want to intimidate me to pay up the money same way I was coerced to leave my car and sign the undertaking at their office yesterday.

Please lalastica please move this to the front page, for much input. Thanks.

There's this Warri parlance that says; "Commot hand for Soldier man salary..."

78.57% of business transactions between a Military personnel and a civilian always ends up as a bitter tale.

I will advise you to get a good lawyer and press charges against him for the harassment.

Lodge an official complaint thru the army official handles on social media or contact a lawyer to forward a petition with proofs to the AHQ (Army headquarters)

Don't ever do business or deal with any uniform man/woman, especially army.

Your partner overs and shipping agent are not efficient.

Report to the head or RSM of the barracks he belongs. If you don't get help there, pay the money and avoid more wahala!

What you are telling us now is that he should be solely responsible for the 400k?... Its meant to be shared between the two of you moreover since the truck is about to offload, there is no more wahala again na

You promised to deliver a car to a man and you gave him a TIME FRAME. The time frame elapsed, yet car wasn't provided. Anyone would be angry and would be suspicious of you. Because of this, i do not think you should use a lawyer/sue him. If you call him out on social media today, how sure are you that your family and you would be safe from this man's wrath? He may come back at you. Try and settle the issue amicably, and next time, don't give your customers a fixed time for delivery, rather tell them it will take between one week to a month for an item to be delivered.

You have been honest from starting, I advice you go to any military barracks, at entrance you would met men on red berets (military police) ask them you have a case for their office, they should refer you there. lodge your complaints at the office and tender every evidence of your dealings and they would tell you what to do... Based on your story, it's not your fault and it could happen to anyone.

Note: Every Individual with there ways to settle issues, it doesn't have to be Military men to be intimidated, the subject is just careful because he doesn't want problems with them.

Is business is Nigeria always this fraught with uncertainties? I highly do not support their harassment of you but bros the business has been meandering and not straight forward, I would be suspicious too. Especially since fraudsters these day know how to make things look genuine when they are not. I wouldn’t honestly know what to believe.

Thank you all for your contributions.

Update: Thankfully, the car was offloaded from the container 3weeks ago. Remember i was coerced to drop my car and sign an undertaken that I will pick up my car when I give the officer his car and the corrected customs paper. On the day the car was offloaded, the officer sent his junior colleagues to come pick up the car even though that wasn't in the undertaken. They asked me when they should be expecting the corrected custom papers, I told them I'd give them feedback on howfar the correction is going the following week's Tuesday (the day the car was offloaded was on Saturday).

Unfortunately it was the week of the Sallah break which fell in the middle of the week (Wednesday & Thursday). By Tuesday the officer started troubling me that I said the correction will be ready by Tuesday, and I told him I said I would give him feedback not that the corrected document will be ready on Tuesday.
The next thing he said to me was that I should forget whatever I'm doing and be ready to pay him the 500k on the undertaken I was coerced to sign. I politely told him that wasn't the terms in the undertaken, that I would only make a payment of 400k to the man who said he could help in the correction for the sum of 400k Naira IF the document I produce is not genuine.

He said, it seems I don't know what I signed. That he has told me to forget whatever I'm doing and that he would do the correction.
Meanwhile, the route I was taking for the correction from my end wasn't suppose to cost upto 400k Naira.

To my utmost surprise, the officer went ahead to make the correction himself last week; because the previous week much couldn't be done because of the sallah break, I was to conclude on Wednesday with the correction when it appeared on the system that it had been corrected the previous day. Same last week my wife put to bed, and I've been up and about.

Now the crux of the matter is that this man has still held onto my car after going against the undertaken I signed. He has his car and the corrected document, yet still hold onto my car. I've even try to negotiate with him to share with him the cost of correction which isn't upto to 400k. But because he is a senior officer and wants to punish me, he has insisted I pay the 400k I signed on the undertaken and the 100k he claimed he used he spent while waiting for the car.

Isn't this oppression? I spent quite a lot for my wife's delivery, this week makes it the 3rd week my car has been parked at the barracks. He has refused to even speak with me.

Please where do I go from here. It's now obvious this man wants to oppress me. It is well. Moving around fir the past 3 weeks has been very difficult without my car, especially for my wife. Now that she has delivered, we would need the car .

Please what can I do?
Sorry for the long epistle.

Nawa, once you sort this out try not to have dealings with the security forces, especially the army, most times it ends up sour ,they always have the belief that the uniform gives them the right to be a law.

A sane person would have taken the offer of negotiating the cost of that correction like you said but he will not do it.

I hope it is not u that made the mistake on the paper. If not, they are colliding to defraud u. Go to their social web and report them accordingly. Tender necessary report you have made for the correction.

When people start to castigate them. They will release your car without much money. Make no mistake in revelling their identity except on offical note, so that it will not back fire on you. I just learn to deal with uniform men with caution. I don't know say Army join😜. #400, #500k is not a small money. Why is almost everbody fraudulent in this country.
