Lies from the pit of hell. Buhari didn't start the Lagos Ibadan rail line but I must give him credit for completing it. The presidency should learn to give honour to whom honour is due. They should acknowledge the PDP administration that started the project. Enough of this lies and propaganda by this present administration

Not like neither of Buhari or GEJ administration is responsible for this. The Chinese fully funded this project and project managed till completion. Neither of the govt significantly has a role to play here

So, we did not do anything, China just read our mind and China just came up with the plan to build a railway in Nigeria, did the studies, China negotiated with China, China signed the railway contract with China, China gave China the loan and China just landed in Nigeria to start and complete the project without our knowledge and our impute? Wow!!!

See own little or no sense you made?

This is how you know we will stay in our useless state and keep pointing finger at one another. PDP was useless and we all were supposed to push them out however, our brothers from the other side voted them still, knowing fully well how useless they were. Now, thank God we went APC, we realized APC is also useless, they are just better cos they are new. Now, all APC did was show evidence that they are better than Useless PDP. Now tell me how can we progress when we were comparing very useless vs useless. If and only if our selfish brothers had all voted APC in 2015, then PDP would've been DEAD by now. Then in 2019, we would've seen how useless APC is also cos they will have nothing to compare against since PDP is not in the picture, then we can all easily see how useless APC is, then guess what we would've gotten an alternative and progressed to a better party (not APC) in 2019. But that is not our case. We are all talking past ourselves and pointing finger in different direction and hating one another. Imagine, APC built a train from Lagos to Ibadan, something that we did not have prior and we are still talking about PDP. NA wah oh!!!!

Let's not distort the fact.

The Federal Government recently reassured Nigerians that 156.65 kilometres, Lagos - Ibadan speed rail project will be completed by December 2018. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, on 3rd May 2018 made this clear during a meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, contractors from CCECC (China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation) and other stakeholders.

“On today’s meeting, what we have achieved is that the December date for the Lagos - Ibadan standard gauge is non - negotiable. I am happy to say that both contractors and consultants have promised their commitments to meet the deadline. The challenges raised are surmountable and these are what we reviewed in the meeting” - Lai Mohammed.

Yemi Osinbajo (then Acting President), on March 7, 2017, inaugurated the construction of Segment II of the Lagos - Ibadan Rail Project
at the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) compound in Lagos state. This was in line with the Ministry of Transportation’s train route project to connect state capitals.

The project was awarded to CCECC at the cost of N458 billion. The idea was for the FG to deliver a fast and efficient rail service system between Lagos state and Ibadan (capital of Oyo state) by December the following year (2018).

What does the history book say?
The plan to construct the railway is not a new one, it was initiated first under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2006, he awarded the project to CCECC at $8.3 billion dollars but was unable to execute it due to lack of funds and the expiration of his second term in office.

In 2012, Goodluck Jonathan re-awarded the same project to the same contractor, with a plan to execute it in six phases. The first phase, which was the Abuja - Kaduna railway, although started by the administration of Goodluck Jonathan was completed by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Segment II, which connects Lagos to Ibadan is now under construction. Other segments, which will be constructed much later are Ibadan - Ilorin, Ilorin - Minna, Minna - Abuja and Kaduna - Kano.

Above is from your link and it is quiet clear that Jonathan only started the Abuja - Kaduna segment. Buhari completed the Abuja - Kaduna segment and started the Lagos -Ibadan segment. So, what’s your point again?

Guy calm down and leave me out of your partisan nonsense.

Didn't you see in the first link that Ameachi said they were building railways based on the Obasanjo master plan conceived in 2006? GEJ built the ABJ-KAD end to a point before PMB finished it.

The second link which is an article written by Tolu Ogunlesi an aide of PMB confirmed that PMB restarted and finished the LAG-IBA line conceived by OBJ so why the insults?

There's no doubt that when it comes to modernizing our railway infrastructure PMB deserves all the accolades. But if Buhari doesn't solve the horrible security crisis in the land right now no one will remember that he built railways because only the living will use the trains.

plaindealer:

Even the links you posted did not day anything about obj or gej starting the project?

Why do you people lie so boldly?

Is dishonesty, fraud and mental corruption part of your DNA?

This govt and claiming and twisting facts. The Lagos-Ibadan stretch of the rail project is part of the Lagos-Kano project which was started by the GEJ administration. The Abuja-Kaduna portion of the project had already been fully completed and dis portion of the project had already been started by the previous administration which was why dis govt embarked on a modernisation of what was already done wen it claimed to have started it
as in they lie to any extent

This is true. Even though the project had been in the talks since 2006, work was started on it under President Buhari's regime. The unwillingness of other regimes to increase Nigeria's debt profile needlessly contributed to the delay.

Who could forget the public outrage at the proposed $1.5bn loan gotten from China for this project despite Nigeria's enormous debt profile then? The fact that the railway failed to be delivered on December 2018 as agreed even made the outrage worse.

Better late than never, I guess.

Some of us who are aware and informed, remember GEJ government signing the contract for the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge line and work even started.

So all these lies will never change what we know. And that is that GEJ govt started the project while Buhari govt continued and finished it.

Find below the screenshots of the report of the contract from Reuters, Premium Times, etc, in 2012; a year after Jonathan won the 2011 general elections.

APC and Buhari should stop distorting the truth.

This subject was discussed on this platform years ago.... here is the fact:

Obasanjo first initiated the standard gauge railway project, signed MoU and even did a kick off ceremony. Then came Yar’adua who cancelled the Contract.

Enter Jonathan, he signed another MoU with China but the project didn't take off because he didn't pay the necessary counterpart funds to kick start the project. So it remained on the drawing board just like the 2nd Niger Bridge till Jonathan left.

Then came Buhari and Ameachi, they paid the counterpart funds kick started the project and completed the project.

Yes...the OP is right!

Except by "starting"... you mean signing MoU.... But the physical project / Actual implementation was started and completed by Buhari.

As a so called auto reporter, all you need to provide us with are counter proofs against the OP.

All I see here are just politically biased rantings.

Although there are many empty brains on Nairaland, they believe anything once it is within their political expectations.

But I can assure you that Nairaland has a lot of silent but highly intelligent people and professionals!

Your are making empty counter proofs without evidence?
