How negative can this speaker zoning have on the SW in particular?

For a region that is trying to get rid of PDP corruption and incompetency, how will speakership help our political reformation efforts?

Does the SW really need more of OBJ's moves in the region?

How exactly will speakership benefit and how will it hurt the SW?

Shortly after the announcement, the South-West PDP had met at the Abeokuta home of former President Olusegun Obasanjo last Thursday and picked Ajibola as its consensus candidate for the speakership.

Our correspondents also learnt the chances of the zone were further dimmed by the position of two main opposition parties— Action Congress of Nigeria and Congress for Progress Change — to work against the PDP zoning of the post.


Investigations showed that the ACN, at a closed-door meeting with its National Assembly members-elect, agreed that its lawmakers would vote against any candidate annointed by the PDP as Dimeji Bankole’s successor.


An ACN chieftain, who spoke to one of our correspondents, said supporting a PDP candidate from the South-West would not be in the interest of the party (ACN), which swept the National Assembly polls in the zone.


He said, [size=18pt]“The PDP has said that it will use the zoning of the speakership to the South-West to revive itself in the zone. We do not want South-West PDP to get the position. We want the party dead in the zone permanently.”[/size]


In its reaction, the CPC said its members would not work with the PDP in its quest to select a speaker for the House.

If the intention of the speakership to the PDP SW is to regain footstool in the SW, then the SW ACN should support the zoning of the speakership to other regions.

Honestly, I dont quite understand why so much noise is being made about this.

One question that has not yet been answered is; HOW WILL THIS POSITION HELP THE COMMON PEOPLE AND IS THIS POSITION SUPPOSED TO DEVELOP ONE REGION MORE THAN THE OTHER?

What is the sole purpose of the position? Is this the change Nigerians wants? Politicians using each political positions as a meal ticket?

PDP must be killed in the SW, We dont want any PDP anywhere close to us.

Lol SW must accept the Speakership position, just at the SE will accept the SGF. Fair enough?

The situation , IMO , does not change even if the position of Speaker is retained by the SW PDP . The SW PDP had the Speaker (through Bankole), Senate Majority leader (through Teslim Folarin) and other important positions within our legislative arm yet this did not save them from being wiped out completely in the SW.

The ACN does not need to worry about the role the position of Speaker may play in any PDP revival . If the ACN politicians perform the PDP will remain a minority Party in the SW . It is as simple as that. Political sophistication is here to stay. Oje O le je wa mo .

I just want the PDP dead in the SW and OBJ mocked anywhere he goes, If he gets the Speaker, he can always brag about it that he used his power to win Speaker for SW
