Is it the percentage of the budget that is the issue or the amount that goes to each of them?

This is what he should compare to what others elsewhere receive and not merely express it as a percentage

How many are they now ? The population of Nigeria is roughly 200m and all of them put together is not up to 500 and they take 2% of National budget. Make una fear God oooooo .

F22RAPTOR:

So in essense, since what these legislathieves are earning is nothing compared to the national budget, lets look away, its okay...what a logic, what a comparison...

It's not a major problem as we make it to be. That's simple enough to deduce in my post.

It is terrible that they claimed to be for the poor Masses but all you see is arogancy and talk and talk. The Youth are even worse easily deceived by rolling out to them small gifts in wrappers every 4-years,just to quell their angers. Where are the employments for the Million Youths? It's all deception! Many of the honourables don't live in their zones again but comes back every time elections are near.
They have lost torch with realities on the ground.
Too bad!

If the legislators are not using the funds for the stated purpose, then we the citizen can demand for controls to be put in place to check that.

We can also debate if the allowances is too much or too small for the intended purpose. It's part of public discussion which is our right.

But we can't declare the allowances is too much if you don't know or understand the purpose it's meant to achieve.

If we cut the funds are we also cutting the responsibilities? Without this information we're merely shooting in the dark.

The fact you see one or two lawmakers displaying cars and luxurious items doesn't mean they all live like that. Who knows if such legislators are into Yahoo fraud and money laundering using legislative allowances as a cover?

No, we are looking at the right place. We don't need 26 trillion extra, we need to significantly cut the extravagant cost of governance. 130 billion per year for less than 1500 people, 130 billion wasted each year for 21 years, 130 billion without any meaningful contribution in return. Maybe if they reduced it to 500m per year, they won't be killing themselves trying to get there by all means or turn it to a retirement home for looters and failed governors.

The discussion here is the false assertion that Nigeria legislators cost the highest in the world. I can tell you it cost the equivalent of 176bn naira to fund the legislature of Kenya while ours budget 130bn.

USA gives each congressman about $1m each year to run their offices, that's outside salaries and allowances. But every country have different circumstances, realities and peculiarities.

Do you know the duties the law imposes on the Nigeria lawmaker's? Can you explain how your arbitrary 500m will do the job for 469 lawmakers in a year?

The fact you even mention 500m shows you have no idea what the legislature is meant for or what purpose they serve by their very existence.

The bozo is just spewing trash, shooting himself in the leg. Let’s assume the budget is trillions of naira. 2% of that is in billions for less than 200people in the house out of about 200million people!

Wakanda rubbish is this

Again,
We will keep saying this : These kids below are the ones that need wardrobe allowance or food in their belly or fuel for transportation to their various schoos, or anything increament in their lives.
And vehicles that will be taking them to and from school.
Not our senators or any , retired, sitting, standing or crawling politicians or any other PARASTATALS,
Or any auditor-general.

Thumbs-up to the Reps in this case.
This is the kinda change we voted for.
Not the previous ones that were there for 16 wasted years, that turned blind eyes to all the corruption that took place, taking our darling nation 100 years back.

May devil punish all corrupt politicians and public servants in this nation.

Did you know that Since 1999,
Nigeria senators earn more than POTUS?
Insane, just insane.
This rubbish must stop.....NOW!!!

We Rise.

False, you are comparing oranges and apples the personal salary of POTUS without other perks and allowances, office running cost, salary of his aides etc with the entire salary plus running cost of the Nigerian legislator.

Show us the running cost of the POTUS too not just his salary

He is my representative in house of assembly and he is cerebral, but if he said this and it's credited to him? People in surulere will vote him out, 2% of national budget? That sounds entitled, you guys are not suppose to have more than even 0.5% of national budget.

It's actually 1% and that's mainly because our collected revenue is too low.
South Africa with GDP $380bn has a budget equivalent to 65 trillion naira, Egypt with GDP $300bn has budget of 45 trillion equivalent. Nigeria with GDP $460bn is wasting it's time and destiny with mere 13 trillion budget. How can we grow our GDP at a good rate with such miniscule investment that above countries with a fraction of our population are still looking for more money to invest.

how does the figures you just quoted correlate with assembly members getting more funds than a state? From what you just said?
