He is right. It is a misplaced priority and white elephant project.
If you understand how poor Ebonyi state is then you would know that this project shouldn’t have been a priority. There is an airport in Enugu already.

How does airport benefit the average ebonyi woman selling goods in the market who has been looking for loan to expand her business? The only people benefitting are the ruling class who would fly into the airport with their private jets come election time to campaign, they can't take the roads because of insecurity and the poor state of the roads.

Ebonyi state governor Umahi has written to president Buhari for funds to be able to complete the airport project he embarked on in the state.

The project appears to have been stalled due to resources. This prompted the state governor to appeal to president Muhammadu Buhari for financial assistance.

2. We are building one of the largest airport in Nigeria using concrete to build our runway.

3. We intend to complete this project by May 2022 but we do not have money to buy the airport equipment hence our appeal to Mr. President for Ten Billion Naira (N10.000,000,000.00) to purchase the equipment.

4. We shall handover the airport to the Federal Government on completion to concession and supervise.

5. PRAYER I plead with you for your kind help in recommending to Mr. President to assist us when Mr. President refers our letter to you. Truly Umahi was a maverick to have accomplished all he did in Ebonyi state. Having said that, we must say the truth that he was also a crazy megalomaniac to be thinking of building the largest terminal building in Nigeria, even larger than Abuja international airport! Who would use such vast space of terminal building? Chickens and lizards?

Common sense dictates that your first terminal-1 is a small one and from there you could build a much larger second terminal-2, which could take many years and accommodate the growing population using the airport. You don't build the size of terminal-2 as your terminal-1 when you are not even sure that the airport would be that viable.

It's even worse when you know that you don't have the money for such a megalomaniac terminal building, and the worst disservice to Ebonyians is to have such a project ABANDONED after all the billions sunk into it!

Nevertheless, Buhari should please give Umahi the money for the sake of millions of Fulanis living in Ebonyi and transacting their business in the state. It will make the cost & speed of connecting Katsina to Ebonyi very cheap and fast.

Look if Southeast will be islamise ehhn,It will start from ebonyi.

I had expected Umahi to consolidate and expand the solid mineral deposits which the State is quite rich in. Limestone, bauxite, iron ore, granite, tin etc can be harnessed in huge commercial quantities thereby creating millions of job to teeming Ebonyi and Igbo youths. Well, let's see how the airport would fare upon completion. I still maintain that Ebonyi State doesn't need an airport at the moment.
