Mental health describes the condition of an individual's mental well-being. When this state of being does not fulfill the required standards, it may be called a mental disorder. According to statistics from WHO (world health organization) around 450 million people all over the world suffer from such conditions every year. The most common mental disorders that affect adults are anxiety and mood related problems like depression and bipolar disorder, psychotic illness like schizophrenia and eating disorders like bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. These conditions often begin in early adulthood or late adolescence and persist throughout life if untreated or improperly treated for their entire lifespan. First-line treatment of mental disorders is usually with counselling and medication.

Mental disorders can affect people of all backgrounds and ages. Moreover, they can take a toll on the lives of not only the affected individual but also their family members and friends. Therefore, it is important to recognize mental health problems early in order to treat them effectively.

Mental disorders and any kind of mental illness needs to be diagnosed before proper treatment can begin. The most common method used for this is psychiatrist interview with the patient. Psychiatrists in Bhopal are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosis, management and counselling of patients with mental disorders. They do so by assessing patients' psychological, social and biological symptoms. Psychiatrists use their knowledge of signs and symptoms of various mental disorders to identify the most appropriate diagnosis for a patient.

Once psychiatrist has decided on the diagnosis they can recommend suitable treatment options to their patients who may include medication, counselling, psychotherapy or a combination thereof.

Mental health disorders are common in people all over the world and their prevalence is increasing as people are becoming more understanding about mental health conditions and therefore they decide to get assessed and treated if need be.
