The immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, whose tenure ended on Sunday, after four years in office as the number one citizen of the state, has called on those whom he might have offended in the course of discharging his responsibilities as governor to forgive him.

Shinkafi, who was represented during the handing-over ceremony by the former Secretary to State Government (SSG), Alh Mamman Bawa Gusau, said as human being, one was bound to make mistake but never at anytime during his four-year tenure in office, he intentionally or deliberately used his exalted office to oppress the people.

“I call on all those whom I might have offended in one way or the other in the course of discharging our responsibilities to forgive us. In our own case, we hold no grudges against anyone,” he said.

Shinkafi expressed appreciation to state executive council members, members of the state House of Assembly, politicians, civil servants, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and other religious leaders for their support and cooperation.

He also thanked people of the state for giving him their mandate and support which was responsible for the successes his administration recorded during his four-year tenure.

The former governor urged the youth to remain committed to the pursuit of education, which he described as the bedrock of any meaningful development, hence the priority accorded it by his administration.

Shinkafi expressed his goodwill message to the administration of Alhaji AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari, praying that the new administration would continue to execute developmental projects which would have direct bearing on the poor.

Ok. We,ve heard you. But are you sure it's not your guilty conscience that is troubling you. I can remember you've been in power now for 12years- 8 years as deputy gov with Sanni Yerima and 4 years as governor. I can see any meaning development you - Shinkafi impacted on the lives of the Zamfara people.

Go and sin no more. You have stolen enough to ensure comfortable life for yourself, your children and generations thereafter

The response below clearly shows some people just do not understand the culture and sensitivity in the North before making comment on issues. It is a common practice among muslim north that when you have finish an assignment and you are leaving to another place you literarily seek for forgiveness from those you have been together with be it in a family, office retirement,or when your embarking on a long journey.its just cultural.

Yes, you are forgiven on the condition that you return all the looted funds if you have stolen anything from the state treasury. Go ye and sin no more but remember to return the looted funds if any.
